Are the Boston Celtics considering a trade with the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 2 pick?

Are the Boston Celtics considering making a trade with the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft? Such a trade would need to have only one player on the Celtics' roster going out for the Spurs to even consider making such a deal, and that player is star Boston forward Jaylen Brown.
Would it make sense for Boston to move off of Brown, given how important he has been as a tandem with star swingman Jayson Tatum? The collective bargaining agreement (CBA)'s brutal second apron penalties may make this a moot point if the front office thinks it cannot win a title as currently constructed, leaving only one other question to be answered: do the Spurs think THEY can win a title by bringing in the Georgia native?
The folks behind the "New England Sports Network" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Hold My Banner" show featuring NCAA basketball analyst John Fanta as a guest to talk it all over. Check it out below!

LeBron James jokes that Victor Wembanyama will hasten his retirement

On Saturday, a special episode of LeBron James' show "The Shop" was recorded at Fanatics Fest in New York City. Joining James before a live crowd was 21-year-old San Antonio Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama. At one point, James cracked a joke about Wembanyama's incredible shot-blocking abilities and the French native's 7-foot-3 frame. He said that Wembanyama swatting his shots will make him call it quits. 'I can't play that much further… As long as Wemby keeps smacking my [expletive] shots into the stands, it's gonna make me retire.' Wembanyama entered the NBA as the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft, and he was the most hyped rookie to come into the league since James was a rookie during the 2003-04 season. He quickly lived up to the hype, and this season, he averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and a league-high 3.8 blocks a game before a blood clot cut his year short after 46 games. The Spurs haven't made the playoffs since 2019, but with Wembanyama, star guard De'Aaron Fox and Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, as well as the possibility of at least one big move this summer, they could very well become a powerhouse very soon. At the very least, Wembanyama is already a nightmare to play against because of his shot-blocking, and his offensive game is still fairly rudimentary at this point in his career.

DJ LeMahieu's 2-Word Message to Umpire After Yankees' Loss to Red Sox

DJ LeMahieu's 2-Word Message to Umpire After Yankees' Loss to Red Sox originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees were dominated by Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet all game on Friday, but it didn't matter. AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge mashed a solo homer over Fenway Park's Green Monster in the top of the ninth inning to tie it 1-1 and spoil the hurler's chance for a complete-game shutout. Advertisement The score stayed that way until the 10th, when Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu knocked a borderline foul ball down the first base line. Manager Aaron Boone came out to argue the call and threw his gum before he got tossed, and LeMahieu got his first career ejection when he said something to first base umpire Jeremie Rehak after grounding out. The 15th-year veteran revealed what he said postgame, via Newsday's Erik Boland. New York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu (26).Stephen Brashear-Imagn Images "That's brutal," he remarked. The Red Sox won in the bottom of the frame thanks to catcher Carlos Narvaez's walk-off single. New York had a three-game winning streak entering Friday thanks to its sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Before that, Boston won two out of three contests at Yankee Stadium. Advertisement The Red Sox now lead the season series 3-1, but the Yankees are still 8.5 games ahead of them in the AL East. New York is 4.5 games in front of the Toronto Blue Jays for first place, while Boston sits in fourth. Yankees southpaw Ryan Yarbrough tossed 4.2 innings of one-run ball on Friday, and the rest of the bullpen held up before fellow southpaw Tim Hill gave up the walk-off hit to Narvaez. Rafael Devers Homers Against His Former Team to Key 3-2 Win for Giants

Rafael Devers hit his first home run for San Francisco against his former team on Saturday, and the Giants beat the Boston Red Sox, 3-2, just six days after the big trade between the teams. Devers was acquired from Boston on Sunday. He delivered his first long ball for the Giants in the third inning on Saturday after he went hitless in his first six at-bats in the series. Devers sent an opposite-field drive off Brayan Bello (3-2) over the left-field fence for a two-run shot that happened to be caught by a fan in a Red Sox T-shirt. Devers got loud cheers from the big crowd in San Francisco as he rounded the bases for his 216th career home run that gave San Francisco a 3-0 lead. Devers was traded by Boston less than two years into a 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension that he signed in 2023. Heliot Ramos also homered for the Giants, who won for just the second time in their last seven games. Landen Roupp (5-5) bounced back from a rough start last Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, throwing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Camilo Doval allowed two runs in the ninth before getting his 12th save in 15 chances. Boston had won seven of the last eight games. Key moment Boston scored twice in the ninth against Doval and had the tying run on second base with one out. But Doval got Marcelo Mayer and pinch-hitter Romy Gonzalez on groundouts to end the game. Key stat Devers became the 10th player to homer for and against the same team in a seven-day span, according to Sportradar. The last player to do it was Abraham Toro, who homered for Houston against Seattle on July 26, 2021, and then for the Mariners against the Astros the next day. Up next RHP Luis Giolito (3-1, 3.74 ERA) will start for Boston against LHP Robbie Ray (8-2, 2.68 ERA). Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
