Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III?
Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III? Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III? The Celtics are likely going to make some significant changes to their roster to cut salary as they try to get ahead of a potentially unprecedented payroll and tax bill, meaning the roster might look fairly different for what is shaping up to be a bit of a gap year as star forward Jayson Tatum recovers from a torn Achilles tendon. The folks behind the "NESN" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Hold My Banner" show taking a closer look at rumbles such a move might not be out of the question, and what a deal bringing one of these Celtics alumni home might look like (as well as why they might do it). Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the possibility of a Smart or Timelord reunion this offseason.

Are the Boston Celtics about to trade up in the 2025 NBA draft?
Are the Boston Celtics about to trade up in the 2025 NBA draft? The Celtics will head into the '25 draft armed with a pick in the first and second round each at Nos. 28 and 32, respectively. Likely in need of new talent for their big man and backcourt rotations with a potential departure of veterans Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis due to cap crunch issues, we have an idea of the sort of players Boston might be looking to add to their roster. But will they have enough talent on the board by the time they are on the clock late in night one, and early in night two? We have heard some rumors that the Celtics' front office may be looking to trade up in the draft to secure a better player for their future -- how much fire is there to this particular smoke? Advertisement The folks behind the "NESN" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Hold My Banner" show, with guest Fran Fraschilla weighing in on who Boston might want to take if they do move up in the draft. Should the Boston Celtics consider trading some of their star players?
The Boston Celtics were always going to face trade rumors after their second-round playoff exit at the hands of the New York Knicks. Brad Stevens has one of the most expensively constructed rosters in the NBA. If Boston doesn't duck under the second apron luxury tax, it could be facing a $500 million payroll once taxes are included. As such, the Celtics are expected to be busy during the offseason. Everyone not named Jayson Tatum is reportedly available at the right price. That means that both Derrick White and Jaylen Brown could receive interest from around the NBA. Advertisement During a recent episode of the "Hold My Banner" podcast, hosts George Balekji and Travis Thomas shared their thoughts on a recent report from ESPN's Shams Charania, which noted how rival teams are "one hundred percent" making calls on the two Celtics stars. Balekji and Thomas gave their opinions on potentially moving on from White and/or Brown, and what trading one or both of those stars could mean for the Celtics moving forward. The Boston Celtics' top stars could be trade targets this summer
The Boston Celtics' top stars could be trade targets this summer Since the Boston Celtics were eliminated from the 2025 NBA Playoffs, trade talk has swirled among the fan base and the media. Jayson Tatum is set to miss next season due to injury, and the current squad will cost approximately half a billion dollars. Making some moves to retool and shed some salary makes perfect sense, especially if Brad Stevens treats next season as somewhat of a gap year. Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and Sam Hauser are the three most cited players in trade talks. All three of them could have interested teams around the league, with Holiday reportedly being coveted by multiple Western Conference rosters. However, on Friday, June 13, ESPN's Shams Charania noted how the Celtics will 'one hundred percent' receive trade offers for Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. "The Celtics prefer not to trade them, from my understanding, but listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything," Charania said on the "Pat McAfee Show." "And I think they're going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they're focused on. They're going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they're going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective." Charania's reporting quickly led to a significant amount of chatter among Celtics fans and Celtics media. In a June 13 episode of NESN's "Hold My Banner," hosts George Balekji and Travis Thomas shared their thoughts on potentially losing one of White or Brown. They also reacted to some fan-submitted posts from social media, giving their take on fan reactions or trade ideas. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above.
