NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics could pursue $125 milion ex-Atlanta Hawks superstar to form deadly duo with Jayson Tatum; key trade asset might surprise you

(AP Photo/Frank Franklin II) The Boston Celtics are exploring major roster changes this offseason, including a potential trade involving Kristaps Porzingis and a push to acquire ex- Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins . With financial flexibility and title aspirations in mind, the Celtics could outbid rivals like the Los Angeles Lakers to strengthen their lineup. Why Kristaps Porzingis Could Be on the Move The Boston Celtics face a tricky salary cap situation, and moving Porzingis could provide relief while still keeping their core intact. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White are considered untouchable, but Porzingis and Jrue Holiday emerge as viable trade candidates to reshape the roster. A potential deal with the Utah Jazz has surfaced as a realistic option. As reported by Anthony Irwin, the Jazz and Lakers have discussed a trade involving John Collins and Rui Hachimura. However, Boston could swoop in with a simpler offer: Porzingis for Collins straight up. How John Collins Fits the Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum's teammate expresses concern after Boston Celtics star suffers a setback during Game 4 (Image Credit: Getty Images) Collins, who holds a $26.6 million player option for next season, would bring immediate value to the Boston Celtics: - Scoring & Rebounding: Averaged 19 points and 8.2 rebounds last season. - Versatility: Can play power forward or small-ball center. - Cost-Effective: Cheaper than Porzingis long-term if he opts in. "With Tatum out for much of the year in Boston, Collins' high-level production could also help the Boston Celtics stay afloat in a somewhat weak Eastern Conference," notes original writer Ivan White. What's Next for Boston? If the Boston Celtics land Collins, they gain a reliable frontcourt presence without sacrificing their core. Meanwhile, Utah gets a high-upside big man in Porzingis. With the Lakers also in the mix, Boston's ability to outbid rivals could define their offseason success. This move wouldn't come without risks, but for a team eyeing another championship, bold decisions may be necessary. Who should the Boston Celtics take in the 2025 NBA draft with pick Nos. 28 and 32?
Who should the Boston Celtics take in the 2025 NBA draft with pick Nos. 28 and 32? Who should the Boston Celtics take in the 2025 NBA draft with pick Nos. 28 and 32? The Celtics have some likely needs heading into this draft if rumors are true that they may move on from vets Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis (and possibly even Sam Hauser as well) to save money on their potentially historic payroll and tax bill. Big man and backcourt depth are the areas Boston will most likely need additional, cheap depth, and if Hauser gets moved, a shooter on the wing as well. Which players fall in a range the Celtics can get with their existing draft assets, or perhaps by trading up? Is there a chance they can expand the number of bites they have at the proverbial apple by trading back? Cohost of "Havlicek Stole the Pod" Justin Quinn recently took some time to sit down with For The Win NBA draft expert Bryan Kalbrosky to explore what paths (and prospects) are available to Boston in this year's draft. Check it out below!

Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III?
Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III? Could the Boston Celtics reunite with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III? The Celtics are likely going to make some significant changes to their roster to cut salary as they try to get ahead of a potentially unprecedented payroll and tax bill, meaning the roster might look fairly different for what is shaping up to be a bit of a gap year as star forward Jayson Tatum recovers from a torn Achilles tendon. The folks behind the "NESN" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Hold My Banner" show taking a closer look at rumbles such a move might not be out of the question, and what a deal bringing one of these Celtics alumni home might look like (as well as why they might do it). Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the possibility of a Smart or Timelord reunion this offseason.

Ime Udoka reportedly agrees to long-term extension with Rockets that makes him one of the NBA's top-paid coaches
The Houston Rockets like what they've seen from head coach Ime Udoka. Following the team's excellent 2024-25 season, the Rockets reportedly signed Udoka to a long-term extension that makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA, per ESPN's Shams Charania. Udoka, 47, was hired by the Rockets in 2023. During his season with the team, Udoka saw the Rockets improve by 19 games. After going 21-60 during the 2022-23 NBA season, the Rockets finished .500. The team didn't make the playoffs, but it was an impressive turnaround. Advertisement Things got even better this season. The Rockets improved yet again, winning 52 games and making the playoffs for the first time in five seasons. Despite securing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, the Rockets were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in seven games during the first round of the playoffs. Following that elimination, Udoka's name emerged as a possible candidate to replace Tom Thibodeau after his surprising firing by the New York Knicks. The Knicks reportedly asked the Rockets for permission to speak with Udoka about the opening, but were denied. Prior to joining the Rockets, Udoka served as the Boston Celtics' head coach for one season. He led the team to the NBA Finals that year, but was suspended for the entire 2022-23 season for violating the team's code of conduct. The suspension came after Udoka reportedly engaged in an improper, consensual relationship with a team staffer. Weeks after that suspension, Udoka was nearly hired as the Brooklyn Nets' head coach, but the team pivoted at the last minute. Joe Mazulla replaced Udoka in Boston and was eventually hired as the Celtics' full-time head coach. After sitting out the 2022-23 NBA season, Udoka was hired by the Rockets after the team fired Stephen Silas. Now inked to a long-term deal, Udoka will focus on trying to lead the Rockets to the team's first NBA championship since the 1994-95 season.
