Hunting Season
Episode 6 of The Waterfront starts with horrific flashes to the past for Bree. She soon awakens, with Cane next to her. She's now sober but clearing heroin out of her system isn't exactly smooth sailing. However, Bree has serious guilt over how this has gone down with Marcus.
Cane reminds her that Marcus is a former addict and the allure of doing heroin was just too much for him to turn away from. It's not her fault he's dead. Cane believes they need to cover their tracks, which involves destroying all the evidence that Marcus has gained.
It's here where Bree points out a horrifying moment from the past about her grandfather's death that's shaped her whole life. The man didn't die peacefully in his sleep after all. He was tortured while Bree was hiding inside the closet, watching the whole thing play out in horror.
This entire incident explains why she has substance abuse issues and what led her down this path. Belle made her promise not to say anything and she didn't.
With the pair busy, Harlan finds Grady waiting in his office. He's brought over some payroll (and a little extra to sweeten the deal) and wants to celebrate their little win with the DEA.
However, Grady also has an emergency shipment he wants to fly out asap. Harlan is having none of it and doesn't want to mess with their business. Grady is not letting this one go and reminds him who's in charge here.
With Harlan refusing to play ball, and needing to prove his point, Grady shows to see Diller and they hang together. He facetimes with Harlan and shows they're off hunting together, which obviously is his way of keeping Harlan in check.
While Harlan races off to get Diller back, he eventually concedes and agrees to go hunting with the pair.
Elsewhere, Belle signs for some documents from the bank, which only confirms they're in even more trouble than she initially thought. It seems Wes is trying to strongarm them and Belle meets with him to discuss it further. However, the ship has sailed and they have limited time to pay up.
Back hunting, things take a horrible turn when Grady, in his desire to try and hunt some birds, ends up shooting Diller. Whether an accident or a warning, news of Diller's shooting reaches the whole family.
Cane rings Jenna that night, just to talk, despite initially saying they weren't going to. Their conversation stirs up old feelings, which is only compounded further by his earlier chat with Bree, and he heads over to see her. No more 'mr good guy'; the pair wind up having sex.
At the same time, Belle shows up to see Harlan, showing off the documents from the bank that mean bad news for their business. Even worse, Belle immediately susses that Bree has been using and it just makes Cane feel worse that he's caught in the middle of this. He apologizes for how everything has gone down, and the pair share a sweet moment together.
When Grady shows up at the hospital, everything kicks off again. Grady speaks to Belle about the shooting, claiming that he didn't intentionally shoot him but subconsciously? Well, he's not 100% sure.
Belle smacks the guy in the face, and as his goons grab her, Shawn – of all people – shows up and saves her before security arrive.
Shawn speaks to Belle privately after, wanting to know what she's mixed up in. Naturally, she doesn't tell him but that's not going to stop his questions.
Meanwhile, Harlan looks over the documents in his office that night. Unfortunately, after the altercation with Grady at the hospital, he shows up with his men and strong-arms Harlan into submission.
To prove his point, he grabs a couple of buckets full of Portuguese man o' war, and place them on his bare chest. Harlan's screams ring out across the warehouse.
The Episode Review
Grady shows his true colours here, as the nice guy facade wears off and he shows just how vicious he can be. The torture with the jellyfish is pretty sadistic, and it's clear that the hunting trip shooting 'accident' was Grady's way of sending a message to Harlan.
Cane and Bree patching up their differences though is a nice touch and one of the highlights of the episode for sure, while Cane predictably succumbs to temptation and sleeps with Jenna.
Whether this is going to blow up when Peyton returns though is anyone's guess, but it's clear that this situation is far from over.
With a couple of episodes left, will Harlan and Cane manage to save the business before it's too late?

Anne Burrell's friend talks 'complex relationship' with Food Network chef: 'She was going through some stuff'
Food Network star Anne Burrell has been fondly remembered by her friend and fellow chef Duff Goldman after she was discovered dead in her New York apartment. The Worst Cooks In America co-host was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' when law enforcement responded to a call 7.50 am this Tuesday, June 17. The New York Fire Department confirmed to Daily Mail that they were responding to a report of a cardiac arrest, and at present her cause of death is still being investigated by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Now Goldman, whose Baltimore bakery Charm City Cakes was featured on the Food Network, has shared a testimonial to his late pal. 'I've written and re-written this post so many times in the past 24 hours and I just don't know what to say,' he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of him with her. 'Anne and I became friends in probably 2006. She was going through some stuff and I had heard that she was feeling it so on a trip to NYC from Baltimore I had made her a cake that said 'Don't let the b******s win.' She never did,' he said proudly. 'We had a complex relationship and I remember the last conversation we had before our paths drifted was a pretty feisty debate about the merits of catfish. I believe the words 'trash fish,' 'tastes like mud,' and 'cake boy' were used, haha,' he shared. 'Anne and I always had a spirited and somewhat acerbic back and forth. I really never knew why our paths drifted but I always hoped that wherever she was, Anne was doing well and was finding some happiness.' While he was attending a New York City gala 'a year or two ago' with his wife Johnna Colbry and their daughter Josephine, four, Goldman saw Burrell again. Goldman explained that he 'took Josephine out to the lobby to give her a break from sitting at a table listening to speeches. We were playing with the marble columns and as we rounded one we saw Anne.' He recalled: 'Now, at this point we hadn't spoken in years, and I won't go into what we talked about but I will say that that conversation left my heart lifted and full of light, for it truly seemed to me that Anne really had found a measure of happiness and love.' Goldman opined: 'Life is tough, and we have to be tough to get through it. Anne was as tough as they come, but when you got past the armor there was a depth of compassion and kindness that was absolutely beautiful.' He gushed: 'My heart sings when I think of the love and tranquility that it seems Anne had found recently, and her genuine smile for my daughter and me in that lobby are what makes this tragedy just a little more bearable. 'Anne, wherever you are I hope they have slow moving rivers because when I get there, we'll get a couple of rods, a pint of chicken livers, and a sixer and I'll teach you how to catch and cook the best catfish you ever had. Rest up, chef.' Goldman's tribute comes after another one of Burrell's friends, chef Elizabeth Falkner, claimed that the late Food Network star was in 'pretty decent shape' when she last saw her on June 9 at dinner in New York City. In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, Falkner, 59, revealed, 'I think Anne looks like she's in pretty decent shape these days, so it's kind of surprising to me.' Not being able to comment specifically on any health issues, if any, she might've battled before her death, she did find her passing 'so sudden and shocking.' 'I know it is very personal to me what happened, and I can't believe somebody even younger than me has just passed away. It's close to home for all of us,' she said. 'The culinary family is like family, so this hurts a lot of us. We just all feel it.' The shock comes from seeing her a few days ago at an intimate dinner she hosted - which she of course was the chef for the 'fun night' - at Soho House on June 9. 'I've seen [her] over all these years, not just on television competitions and shows, but at different parties and events and stuff, and we've always been friendly. 'But just in the last month we've been texting. I said, "Come to my dinner at Soho House, it'll be great to see you." And she brought her husband and we just had such a good time,' she shared about how the famous chefs reconnected. Falkner paid tribute to Anne on her Instagram after hearing about the shocking news 'It was just so sweet. So this is just really so sudden and shocking.' Burrell even texted her the following day on June 10 to let her know that she and her husband, Stuart Claxton, had a great time. 'She's like, "Thanks so much for inviting us. It was a truly lovely time and very delicious. Please send me some pics so I can post." 'And I said, "It was so great to see you, Anne."' The pals even made a pact to 'talk more often.' 'We were like, "Let's just make a point of talking and texting more often,"' Falkner shared, while noting that she is 'very grateful' to have had a special night with the beloved chef and other guests last week. 'I'm just bummed. I feel like [our friendship] just got cut really short fast,' she added. The Worst Cooks in America alum spoke highly about being a mother. 'When she came to the dinner at Soho House, she said that she was very much enjoying being a stepmother,' Falkner said, referring to the star's stepson Javier, 20. 'And her husband's so sweet. She just seemed to be in such a good place. That's the best way for me to describe it. Because being a chef and being a television personality is two major full-time jobs, but enjoying your life outside of that can be challenging. And I think she was definitely enjoying her life outside of that whole world of the networks and all that stuff.' Burrell spoke exclusively with Daily Mail back in April about marital bliss. Her and Stuart got married in 2021 after meeting on a dating app in 2018. 'October will be four years,' she said at the City Harvest gala. 'It seems like it's been four minutes. I don't know if it's a honeymoon [phase], but I feel like it's settled into married life days which I really enjoy.' Falkner told Daily Mail, 'I'm just bummed. And we said hey and stuff,' Falkner revealed, noting that she and Stuart were on a 'pre-wedding trip.' Describing her passing 'really unfortunate,' 'so sad,' 'unexpected' and even 'tragic,' Falkner believes Burrell's death is a huge loss to the restaurant community since everyone involved is 'another kind of family.' Falkner, herself, said that being a chef is a 'highly stressful job,' but it was something that Burrell mastered throughout her career. 'The thing about Anne Burrell is she wasn't only a TV chef, she was a really good, really good cook, really good chef. She educated a lot of people,' the James Beard Foundation's board of trustees member told Daily Mail. 'I don't even know how she had the patience to do Worst Cooks in America, because I think that would be a challenging show to do patience wise. But she was the real deal. She could cook a lot. She had mad skills. It was always fun watching her cook. I told her I loved watching her on House of Knives.' She added, 'She's one of those people that's kind of intimidating and certainly hardcore as chefs can be. I mean, you kind of have to be that way. It's the only way to teach people how to deal with ingredients and not to mess it up all the time. But she was definitely very sweet... She had a certain kind of sparkle.'

'Deranged' protester runs GOP congressman off the road while chanting 'death to Israel'
A Republican congressman has claimed he was run off the road by an 'unhinged, deranged man' who displayed a Palestinian flag and chanted 'death to Israel.' Rep. Max Miller, of Ohio, took to social media on Thursday to share how he was attacked by an anti-Israeli protester while on his way to work in his district. 'As I was driving to work, some unhinged, deranged man decided to lay on his horn and run me off the road when he couldn't get my attention to show me a Palestinian flag,' said Miller, who previously worked as a White House aide in President Donald Trump 's first administration and now represents northeastern Ohio. 'Not to mention, "Death to Israel," death to me - that he wanted to kill me and my family,' Miller continued, speaking from inside his car. 'Thank God my daughter was not in my vehicle or anybody else at the time.' The Jewish congressman went on to say he had filed a report with the local police department and with the US Capitol Police. Rocky River Police Department has since confirmed to Fox News that it is investigating the incident. But Miller said in his video he already knows who the perpetrator was, and told the suspect that if he has 'an issue, take it to our office. 'You want to run me off the road, that's a different story,' Miller asserted. Despite the encounter, Miller - who also served as a reservist in the US Marines - said he remains undeterred. 'I will continue to fight against antisemitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of hate,' he declared. The congressman also added in an accompanying X post that: 'As a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not hide in the face of this blatant antisemitic violence.' In a follow-up post, he thanked the local police departments in his district and the US Capitol Police for their assistance. 'A police report has been filed and when I am able to share the finalized report, I will do so immediately,' Miller vowed, adding: 'Hate has no home here in OH-7.' House Democratic leadership was quick to denounce the attack on Miller's vehicle. 'We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attack on Congressman Max Miller and his family, and are thankful they are safe,' Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar said in a statement. 'The rise in political violence in this country is unacceptable,' they continued, weeks after two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers were shot inside their homes. 'This is a moment of crisis that requires Congress to act decisively in order to ensure the safety of every single Member who serves in the People's House.'

Stephen A. Smith's daughter makes rare TV appearance for awkward ESPN interview before NBA Finals
While basketball fans are used to seeing Stephen A. Smith on their television screens, they were treated to a rare glimpse of another member of the Smith clan Thursday night. The analyst was performing his ESPN duties alongside Elle Duncan on the floor of Gainbridge Fieldhouse when Game 6 of the NBA Finals turned into 'Bring your daughter to work' day. Smith's daughter, Samantha A. Smith, made a surprise appearance on the broadcast when Duncan called her over from the sidelines. But Smith didn't appear to be a fan of the idea as he remained tense throughout his daughter's stint in front of the camera. 'Say hi,' he told Samantha, who gladly accepted the invitation and ran with it as she greeted viewers and then some. 'Hi guys, I'm Samantha,' the 17-year-old said.
