Kolhapur civic body seeks 50 additional e-buses from central govt

Kolhapur Municipal Transport
(KMT). A proposal outlining this demand has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Currently, the KMC has received approval for 100 e-buses. Of these, 40 are expected to join the KMT fleet shortly, with the remaining 60 will be delivered in phases.
The demand for additional buses is based on the city's growing population and anticipated increase in passenger numbers if nearby villages are integrated into the municipal limits.Project officer P N Gurav said, "A large amount of development work is going on in the workshop of KMT at Buddha Garden. An electric charging station is being set up. A total of 40 e-buses are expected to arrive anytime soon in the first batch."He added, "Considering the increased passenger count once the merger of fringe villages takes place into the municipal limits and scrapping of 75 old buses, a proposal for additional 50 e-buses was sent to the Centre as per the instructions of civic administrator K Manjulekshmi. These buses are expected to arrive fleet by 2027."In order to reduce environmental pollution and make journey of urban commuters comfortable, central govt will be providing a total of 3,162 e-buses for cities across the country. In this, the share of Maharashtra is as much as 1,290 buses for 15 cities.

Cops send civic bodies list of 446 ‘dangerous spots'
Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police has identified 464 spots in the city that need immediate attention to prevent accidents and traffic issues. The repair work needs to be completed before the monsoon sets in completely, the Kolkata Police stated on Saturday. The spots include potholed roads, loose branches blocking signals, and even naked wires hanging loose from posts. According to police, the list was prepared based on ground-level analysis, including photography and videography of each spot by traffic cops attached to the 25 guards. Among the guards that reported the maximum problem points are the Headquarters Traffic Guard (31 points), Bhowanipore (37), Ultadanga (40), and Diamond Harbour Traffic Guard (34). Amongst the important highlights in the report are the spots on AJC Bose Road, Dargah Road, CIT Road, Strand Road, Christopher Road, and EM Bypass (between Ruby Metro and Kalikapur crossing) where the road surface is pathetic. Across DH Road and Banamali Naskar Road in Behala or Bidhan Sarani or Paharpur Road, the problem chiefly is about naked wires. "We prepared a list ahead of the monsoon and requested the authorities to look into it. Now we are preparing a more detailed report. However, these spots need immediate attention to stop accidents. It is easier to manage traffic and people during Durga Pujas when the condition of the roads is good," said a DCP. "The condition of Strand Road near Howrah bridge, for example, is so bad that we don't know where to put the barricade. The patchwork in some places is shoddy, and on some stretches, two different levels have been created on the road surface," a senior police officer posted in central Kolkata said. We will attach photographs of the spot and a landmark so that these potholes can be easily identified by the agencies. NTR district takes up ‘Clean Air' drive with major initiatives under NCAP
Vijayawada: The NTR district administration has taken up the 'Clean Air' initiative in a big way under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), by launching a series of integrated measures aimed at reducing air pollution and improving environmental standards in Vijayawada. Authorities of NTR district conducted a high-level meeting with officials from the Pollution Control Board, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, transport, industries, and other departments, assessed the progress made, and planned further action. Air quality monitoring data revealed that the level of PM 10 fine dust particles in the city stood at 64 µg/m³ during 2024–25. Authorities resolved to bring this number down through focused interventions in traffic, greenery, and pollution control. Among the key initiatives is the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), being developed at a cost of ₹5 crore. The system is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion at junctions, and cut down vehicle emissions. The administration also directed that illegal parking be curbed and dedicated parking zones be created to ease road pressure. Action is being taken to identify and penalise vehicles emitting high levels of pollutants. Additionally, pollution caused by VTPS ash is to be addressed using advanced technology. On the solid waste management front, construction of proper roads, pavement development, canal bank greening, and mechanical sweeping are being prioritised. The administration is also enforcing ban on single-use plastic, particularly in shopping complexes, farmers' markets, and commercial zones. "All departments must report on plastic control measures and explore alternatives. Awareness campaigns among street vendors are equally important," Dr. Lakshmi added. A stakeholder workshop under NCAP has been scheduled for July 4 to discuss and finalise the next phase of clean air actions.

Minister directs DC to allot Pumpwell bus stand land to KSRTC to operate electric city buses
Dakshina Kannada district in charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday, June 21, directed the district administration to handover seven acres of land at Pumpwell to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to enable it to operate electric buses on city routes. In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the Minister said the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had acquired the land to build a satellite bus terminal in the city. Now the central government has sanctioned 100 e-buses to KSRTC's Mangaluru Division under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, the land may be handed over to KSRTC free of cost, the Minister said. Mr. Rao also directed the Deputy Commissioner to hand over 9.9 acres of land belonging to the gram panchayat at Balepuni village near Mudipu, off Mangaluru, free of cost to KSRTC to set up electric bus depot and construct divisional workshop. Eleven cities As many as 11 cities in Karnataka have qualified to introduce electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, according to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. Besides Mangaluru, the cities included Mysuru, Davangere, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Belagavi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Ballari, and Vijayapura. The three State-owned transport corporations under whose jurisdiction the cities were located, have submitted a demand for total 795 e-buses under the scheme. While KSRTC had demanded 100 buses for Mysuru and Mangaluru and 50 buses for Davanagere, Shivamogga and Tumakuru, North West KRTC had sought 100 for Belagavi and 110 buses for Hubballi-Dharwad. The Kalyana Karnataka RTC wanted 100 buses for Kalaburagi, 55 for Bellari and 80 buses for Vijayapura. The Central government wanted to boost electric mobility infrastructure in the country through the scheme that envisages deployment of 10,000 electric buses in 169 cities in the country through a Central outlay of ₹20,000 crore under public-private partnership mode. The total estimated cost of the scheme would be ₹57,613 crore. Covering cities with three lakh and more population, the scheme would support bus operations for 10 years.
