Spaceballs: Lewis Pullman in talks to star alongside father Bill Pullman in sequel
Lewis Pullman is in negotiations to appear in the Spaceballs sequel.
The Thunderbolts* actor, 32, is in talks to star in the upcoming follow-up to Mel Brooks' 1987 sci-fi parody movie alongside his 71-year-old father, Bill Pullman, The Hollywood Reporter has said.
Bill Pullman will be returning as his Han Solo-esque character Lone Starr, while Rick Moranis is slated to reprise his role as Dark Helmet in what will be his first on-screen cinematic appearance in nearly 30 years.
Daphne Zuniga - who played Princess Vespa in the original flick - is also expected to come back for the sequel.
While Brooks is not due to direct the Spaceballs follow-up, the 98-year-old filmmaker will reprise his role as Yogurt in the movie, with Will and Harper director Josh Greenbaum set to helm the project for Amazon MGM Studios.
Rounding out the cast of the Spaceballs sequel is Keke Palmer, who has reportedly boarded the project in an undisclosed role, according to Deadline.
While plot details about the Spaceballs follow-up are being kept under wraps, it has been described as 'a non-prequel, non-reboot sequel part two, but with reboot elements, franchise expansion film'.
The flick is being written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, with the latter scribe also expected to star in and produce the film alongside Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody, Brooks and Greenbaum.
Meanwhile, Kevin Salter, Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez are to serve as executive producers.
The Spaceballs sequel is slated to hit screens in 2027.
Spaceballs - which parodied sci-fi franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek and Planet of the Apes - followed Lone Starr (Pullman) and his loyal sidekick who are hired to rescue Princess Vespa (Zuniga), only to uncover Dark Helmet's (Moranis) plan to steal an entire planet's air supply.
In November, Gad teased he and the writing team had finished the first draft for the Spaceballs sequel.
He told Forbes: 'Without MGM taking me into their Culver prison cells, I can tell you that the draft is done.
'Everybody who's read it has been blown away. The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.'
The Frozen star added the whole experience has been 'sort of a fever dream', and said Brooks 'has been so unbelievably supportive, involved, and electrified by this because it's the one that surprisingly got away'.
He gushed: 'It's a dream to be able to finally make the reality prophesied by Yogurt in the first movie happen. I can't say more than that.
'I can't tell you anything beyond [the] process at this point, but I can tell you every hour of every day right now is spent making this project closer and closer to reality — and I think we're nearing the end zone here.'

Kacey Musgraves is 'in a lot of pain' after breaking a rib
Kacey Musgraves has broken a rib after suffering a fall in Mexico. The 36-year-old singer has revealed via social media that she's "in a lot of pain" after she recently suffered a fall. Alongside an image of her X-ray, Kasey wrote on Instagram: "Sooo I'm in Mexico with a f****** broken rib. "Wednesday night it was raining and I was running to grab some towels and had an extremely hard fall on some very slick tile I didn't see. Thankful I didn't smack my head but I landed very very hard on my back left ribcage, and I broke rib number 6. "This s*** is no joke. I'm in a lot of pain and doing ANYTHING is extremely difficult but I'm managing and being well taken care of. (sic)" Kacey is currently unable to perform live because of her injury. The singer has also been forced to reschedule the live recording of a podcast. She continued: "There is no physical way I can get on a plane and fly back to Nashville for the @singforscience event with @paulstaments on Sunday at @theryman. I am extremely bummed to have to reschedule as I have been looking forward to this for months but there is literally no other option. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. (sic)" Kacey released her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, in 2013, and she's subsequently become one of the biggest names in country music. The singer - who was born and raised in Texas - recently revealed that she loves taking her music overseas and engaging with her international fans. Geena Davis hails Mission: Impossible's 'great diversity'
Geena Davis loved the "great diversity" of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The 69-year-old star has admitted to being impressed by the casting choices for the action movie, which saw Tom Cruise appear alongside the likes of Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga and Ving Rhames. Geena told Deadline: "Did you see the new Mission: Impossible yet? I noticed the great diversity in there, women left and right, all over the place, and people of colour and it's just normal and natural. But they clearly, in my estimation, put a lot of thought into that." Genna has been trying to make the movie industry more inclusive through her Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media, which she founded two decades ago. The award-winning actress also oversees the Bentonville Film Festival, and Genna has explained how she approaches the issue of inclusivity. She shared: "In my institute we focus on what's on screen. And in the festival, we take into account both on screen and behind the camera. So, our directors and writers and producers are very diverse as well as [the cast] on screen." Genna thinks it's important that the film industry reflects the wider population. The Accidental Tourist star said: "It just makes sense to reflect the people that are watching the movie. "Ultimately, what I think we're trying to prove is that films with unique voices that represent the population are very commercial. Research shows that the more diversity there is on screen, the more money the movie makes. But people haven't really taken that to heart as much as they could." Walmart - the supermarket chain founded in Bentonville - actually created the Bentonville Film Festival with inclusion as its focus. And Genna has relished the opportunity to lead the festival. The Hollywood star explained: "Each department of Walmart has to come up with their sort of public outreach, public service initiative that they do. "The home video department thought, 'Hey, what if we were to have a film festival for representation, that is about representation?' And they thought that was a good idea. And then I was thought of as someone who might be — they needed to get a Robert Redford or Robert De Niro, or somebody named Robert to be the person fronting it. And they thought of me, and I came here and talked to everybody, and I really wanted to do it." The Oscar-winning actress feels proud of what she's managed to achieve with the festival in a relatively short space of time. She said: "We decided to put it on very quickly, so we only had about five months to put it all together for the first iteration. But we pulled it off and it gets bigger and better every year."
