Jon Bernthal Lands Role in Major Marvel Film Alongside Tom Holland
Jon Bernthal is bringing the Punisher to the big screen—and this time, he's stepping into the world of Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Bernthal has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the upcoming installment in Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man franchise.
Directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie begins filming in England this summer and is slated for release on July 31, 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Plot details remain tightly guarded, but the return of Bernthal's Frank Castle hints at a darker, more street-level tone than recent Spider-Man entries.
In the comics, Castle's brutal methods often put him at odds with other heroes, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that tension may come to life as he crosses paths with Peter Parker.
Bernthal first debuted as the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil before headlining two seasons of The Punisher. He returned in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, and Marvel has confirmed plans to expand his presence with both a second season and a stand-alone R-rated Punisher film, one that Bernthal is co-writing.
The actor reportedly made it clear: if he was returning, the character's edge had to remain intact. How that uncompromising violence plays in the more family-friendly Spider-Man sandbox remains to be seen.
Brand New Day also brings back Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as MJ and Ned, though their roles are still under wraps.
Stranger Things star Sadie Sink joins the cast in a mystery role.
The story picks up after No Way Home, where the world forgot Peter Parker's identity, giving Marvel a clean slate to rebuild.
While speculation about villains runs wild, ranging from underworld bosses to symbiotes and even alternate Hulks, it's Bernthal's inclusion that changes the stakes. He and Holland share a behind-the-scenes connection, having supported each other during auditions while filming Pilgrimage in 2017.
With Bernthal stepping into Spider-Man's orbit, Marvel fans can expect a collision of tone, style, and morality.
Whether Castle is an ally, obstacle, or something in between, one thing is certain: Spider-Man's next chapter just got a lot more dangerous.Jon Bernthal Lands Role in Major Marvel Film Alongside Tom Holland first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 21, 2025

If You Wear This Jean-and-Flat-Shoe Combination While Traveling, I'll Know You Have Cool Style.
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Traveling can be stressful or easy—depending on who you ask. Between packing lists and last-minute errands, just making it to the airport on time can feel like a feat. During a recent trip from Paris to London via the Eurostar train, Miley Cyrus stepped out in an effortlessly cool outfit that I haven't stopped thinking about. It was understated but spoke volumes about her travel style. In my opinion, the combo of relaxed, cuffed jeans and black Margiela Tabi flats (every fashion person's favorite quirky shoe style) made for the perfect travel look. Cyrus's green trench coat was a smart layering choice for London's rainy, cool weather, and her Maison Margiela handbag added a touch of elegance. When I'm on the move, I usually default to a sweatsuit, but I've been trying to move away from that travel uniform, especially if I need to be somewhere right after landing. I think a lot of us are over the sweatsuit phase, and this outfit is a chic, fuss-free alternative. If you're searching for a stylish travel look, keep scrolling. Prince William to exclude three royals from his reign and give them 'no duties'
Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will have NO royal duties under Prince William's regime. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly expressed a desire to keep HRH titles for their son Archie, aged five, and daughter Lilibet, aged three.. But Prince William will deliver a major snub to Prince Harry by refusing to include them in his monarchy. The Times reports an insider as saying: 'What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn't mention it at all. "It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head, it was a very close relationship and he was very upset. But he's not letting it get to him at all any more. It is a change. It's sad, but it's a much healthier space for him to be at.' It means Andrew, too, looks likely to be left out in the cold alongside Lilibet and Archie. It comes after Wills described 2024 as 'probably the worst year of my life' as he dealt with the cancer struggles of his wife as well as father King Charles. The heir to the throne, who also set up a Homewards programme to end homelessness, said: 'I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation. 'And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller 'r' in the royal, if you like. That's maybe a better way of saying it. 'So it's more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people. And I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do. It helps impact people's lives. And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world. 'So that's what I'm trying to bring. That's what Catherine is trying to bring as well. 'And I sit here right now doing Earthshot and doing all the projects I'm doing, like Homewards as well. And who knows what's going to come next, but it all centres around those values of trying to help deliver change and make those lives better."
