International Yoga Day celebrated in Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi

As per this year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', the International Yoga Day was observed with great enthusiasm in Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi districts on Saturday.
In Kanniyakumari, Minister of Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj participated in the event organised by the District's Yoga and Naturopathy Department under the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy. The Minister performed yoga alongside students and other participants at the yoga session. More than 300 individuals took part in the event.
In Thoothukudi, the International Yoga Day event was held at the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH). G. Sivakumar, Dean of TKGMCH, attended the programme as chief guest. Around 200 participants, including doctors and medical students, took part in the event.
The doctors of TKGMCH including R. Padmanabhan, Medical Superintendent, V. Kalaivani, Vice Principal, Silas Jeyamani, Resident Medical Officer, and A.R. Arun Saravanan, NSS Programme officer, were also present on the occasion.
Similarly, TNFJU-Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, celebrated the International Yoga Day with an event organised by the college's physical education and NSS units B. Ahilan, Dean of the institution, presided over the event. At the event he explained the origin of yoga in India and urged staff and students to practice yoga regularly. More than 250 students and staff participated in the event and practiced common yoga protocol on the occasion.
V. O. Chidambaranar Port celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day at the port's community hall. Professional yoga trainers from 'Art of Living' emphasized the yoga's vital role in enhancing both personal wellness and collective harmony.
Susantha Kumar Purohit, IRSEE and Chairperson of V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, in his message conveyed that yoga was essential for a healthy body, mind and overall well being. He stressed the importance of dedicating at least one hour each day to practice yoga. He also announced that yoga sessions will be conducted at least thrice a week for the port employees and staff under the supervision of the port's sports council.

The Paryaya Puthige Mutt seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami led a one-hour long Yoga session in the Sri Krishna Mutt premises on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Saturday at Udupi. The yoga session was conducted under the directions of Yoga trainer Mamata Shettigar. 'I am taking part in the whole session only to make people aware that seers also do Yoga. I have been doing Yoga for a long time,' the seer said. The ancient concept of Yoga, which is a resource for physical and mental well being, should be spread across the world, the seer added. The session started with warm-up exercises that included the neck and shoulder rotations, which were followed by twisting of waist. Then 'Tadasana', 'Vrukshasana', 'Padahastasana', 'Ardhachakrasana', 'Bhadrasana', 'Vajrasana', 'Ustrasana', 'Bhujangasana', 'Mandookasana', 'Uttana Mandookasana', 'Sethubandhasana', and 'Shavasana' were done. Then 'Kapalabhati', 'Nadishoodhana Pranayama', 'Sheetali Pranayama', and 'Brahamari Prayanama' were done. Yoga has helped Udupi District in charge Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar on Saturday said it was because of regular yoga practice for over two decades that she was in a position to work 15 hours a day. Ms. Hebbalkar said she was going about 20 surya namaskars every day. Recent motor vehicle accident in which she was injured has constrained her from doing Yoga every day. She was now doing Yoga fives days a week. Yoga brings mental joy and promotes a healthy lifestyle, she said. Apart from Ms. Hebbalkar, Yashpal Suvarna and Gurme Suresh Shetty, Udupi District MLAs, Ashok Kodavoor, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee Chairman, T.K. Swaroopa, Deputy Commissioner, Prateek Bayal, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, Ganapathi, Kundapura Divisional Forest Officer, and Satish Acharya, District AYUSH officer took part.

Governor, ministers, vice-chancellors, railway officials and employees, teachers and students, along with common people, participated in yoga sessions organised by different institutions. The theme of the celebrations this year was "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." Governor-cum-chancellor, Arif Mohammed Khan, along with other officials of the chancellor's secretariat, practised different asanas under the guidance of Navanit Niland from the ministry of ayush and Raj Mani Singh of Bihar Yoga School, Munger. Speaking on the occasion, the governor said yoga is beneficial for our physical fitness. Lady governor Reshma Arif participated in the yoga session organised by the Mahila Imdad Committee at Raj Bhavan and appreciated the growing interest of women towards yoga. Patna University (PU) vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh led a yoga session at Patna Science College ground, which was attended by a large number of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff. The programme, jointly organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the PU Yoga Centre, was conducted by Patna Science College principal Atul Aditya Pandey. The session started with a meditation exercise, after which yoga instructor Manjula Shushila performed various yoga asanas. The National Service Scheme of Magadh Mahila College organised a yoga camp near Garima Hostel on the campus. The railways organised yoga camps at various locations under the East Central Railway (ECR) jurisdiction. The initiative saw active participation from railway officials, employees and family members. RGUKT IIIT students celebrate International Yoga Day

Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) IIIT in Nuzvid celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day by performing yoga on the lawns of the institute, here on Saturday. Nuzvid IIIT Director S. Amarendra Kumar, who practised yoga along with the faculty and the students, asked all to do 'yogasanas' for an hour every day. The 17th Andhra Battalion NCC, Vijayawada, performed yoga with a slogan 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smrithi Maidan, in Vijayawada. Nearly 1,200 cadets of various institutes, NCC officers, instructors performed various yogasanas in the Smrithi Maidan, said Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. G.C. Pandey. Officers of South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada division, celebrated the International Yoga Day, and practised yogasanas at Railway Function Hall. Additional Divisional Railway Manager P.E. Edwin, Srinivas Rao Konda, Divisional Personnel Officer Rasana Devi and other officers felicitated yoga instructors, Velaga Swathi and Velugubanti Saatvika on the occasion. International Yoga Day was celebrated at more than 20 places in SCR Vijayawada division, in which many railway employees participated, the SCR officials said.
