RGUKT IIIT students celebrate International Yoga Day

Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) IIIT in Nuzvid celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day by performing yoga on the lawns of the institute, here on Saturday.
Nuzvid IIIT Director S. Amarendra Kumar, who practised yoga along with the faculty and the students, asked all to do 'yogasanas' for an hour every day.
The 17th Andhra Battalion NCC, Vijayawada, performed yoga with a slogan 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smrithi Maidan, in Vijayawada. Nearly 1,200 cadets of various institutes, NCC officers, instructors performed various yogasanas in the Smrithi Maidan, said Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. G.C. Pandey.
Officers of South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada division, celebrated the International Yoga Day, and practised yogasanas at Railway Function Hall. Additional Divisional Railway Manager P.E. Edwin, Srinivas Rao Konda, Divisional Personnel Officer Rasana Devi and other officers felicitated yoga instructors, Velaga Swathi and Velugubanti Saatvika on the occasion.
International Yoga Day was celebrated at more than 20 places in SCR Vijayawada division, in which many railway employees participated, the SCR officials said.

Despite light drizzle, thousands of citizens participated with enthusiasm. The session began with actress Adah Sharma reciting the Kal Bhairav Ashtakam, followed by collective 'Om' chanting and yoga practice. 1 2 Sambalpur: To improve the mental and physical well-being of inmates, Nari Bandi Niketan — the only women's prison in the state — has introduced weekly yoga sessions in collaboration with district health officials. Marking International Yoga Day , 30 women inmates took part in a special one-hour yoga and meditation session on the jail premises from 5:30 to 6:30am. Superintendent Runibala Dei said a yoga instructor also conducts daily sessions from 7 to 9 am, and every Friday, yoga inspector Dini Nayak offers a guided class to deepen the practice. "We have asked the yoga instructors to build rapport with the inmates and make the class an enjoyable activity to reduce stress among the prisoners," she added. To support holistic mental health, the prison also organises daily dance and music classes for inmates.

Over 15,000 yoga performers from all walks of life, including foreigners and children with special needs, performed yoga. Oldest health systems: Minister District minister HC Mahadevappa, in his inaugural speech, hailed yoga as one of the oldest health systems in the world.
