Former Inter Milan club president Ernesto Pellegrini has died on the day the team plays the Champions League final. He was 84.
'Pellegrini has left us. For 11 years, he led Inter with wisdom, honour and determination, leaving an indelible imprint in the history of our club,' Inter said on its website on Saturday, hours before the team plays Paris Saint-Germain to be European champion.
Pellegrini was born in Milan in 1940. Italian media reported he suffered from a lung infection.
Pellegrini, who made his money in catering and services, was the 17th president of the club from 1984-95.
Inter won the Serie A in 1989 and twice won the UEFA Cup during his time. He brought German players Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Lothar Matthäus, Andreas Brehme, and Jürgen Klinsmann to the team before selling his shares in the club to Massimo Moratti in 1995.

Kane enjoying 'special feeling' as Bayern advance at Club World Cup

Bayern Munich's England striker Harry Kane said Friday he is relishing the Club World Cup's "special" atmosphere and is confident the German team can now go all the way. HT Image Kane scored the opener for Bayern in a 2-1 win over Argentina's Boca Juniors at Hard Rock Stadium that took his side through to the last 16. He said it had been a tough challenge in the heat and humidity of South Florida. "There's something special about these World Cup games and next year will be the same," he said with a nod to the 2026 World Cup. "When you come off that pitch and you're sweating and you're dripping and you're cramping and you've given everything on the pitch. There's a special feeling inside, especially when you win. That's what we had today." Boca responded to Kane's opener through Miguel Merentiel, but Michael Olise sealed the win six minutes from time. "Really tough game. I thought the first half was really good, I mean we probably should have been 2 or 3-0 up. They hung in the game and the second half made it more difficult," said Kane, who acknowledged the incredible support of more than 55,000 Boca fans in the 63,587 crowd. "I mean it felt like an away game out there for sure, their fans were really loud. It was a great experience to play in front of them and I think that's what makes the win even more special, because it feels like a good away win," he said. "So we're really happy, really pleased and we'll sleep well tonight." Bayern's win was the first for a European team against South American opposition in the tournament and Kane said he was enjoying pitting himself against opponents European clubs rarely face. "I think it's great to experience different teams and I think you've seen in this tournament already, the South American teams especially have caused big problems for some of the European teams. "So it shows how big football is worldwide and how good some of these players are. You have to be ready for the next game, the next opportunity. So yeah, I'm loving this tournament so far and hopefully we're going to be here for a while," he said. Kane added that he was confident Bayern had a real chance to win the competition. "I think we have a good opportunity. We started the tournament really well. I think the style we play is difficult for any team." sev/as This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Inter Milan's 'Crazy' Acerbi Threatens To 'Beat The Hell Out' Of PSG Fan After Taunts: WATCH

Last Updated: Acerbi lost his temper after a PSG fan teased him about Inter Milan's Champions League defeat, threatening the fan about 'beating the hell out' of him. Tensions overflowed at the Inter Milan camp as veteran defender Francesco Acerbi lost his temper after a fan wearing a Paris Saint-Germain shirt in Seattle teased him about the previous month's Champions League final. The fan mentioned a humiliating moment from Inter's 5-0 defeat by the French champions in Munich, where Acerbi was left sprawling after some impressive footwork by Bradley Barcola. The Italian then threatened to beat him up if the taunting continued. In a video that went viral on social media, the visibly irritated Italian international sought the help of a translator during a meet-and-greet with fans. 📲🚨 Francesco Acerbi got into a verbal altercation with a PSG fan.'Don't say 'Acerbi-Barcola', I don't like to be made a fool of. I am crazy and I'll beat the hell out of you." — Inter Xtra (@Inter_Xtra) June 20, 2025 The translator told the fan in English: 'You must be serious with him." Seconds later, Acerbi intervened, saying in Italian: 'I'm serious. Don't make fun of me — I don't like it. … I'm crazy, I'll beat the crap out of you." Acerbi quickly moved on, posing for photos with other fans. Inter's new head coach, Chivu, who took over from Simone Inzaghi after the Italian departed for Al-Hilal in the wake of the Champions League final loss to PSG, said he would like to construct a team that can take control of matches. 'I think every coach would love a team that dominates because you need to show your technical ability, you need to show character and personality," explained the former Inter defender. 'You need to show that you can dominate the ball, that you can set the tempo, that you can find solutions both when you are moving the ball from side to side and when you're playing a bit more direct. 'That's the dream of all coaches, having the game by the scruff of the neck, controlling proceedings." Inter will face the Urawa Red Diamonds next in Group E on Saturday. (with agency inputs)

Bayern overcome battling Boca to reach Club World Cup last 16

Bayern Munich booked their place in the knockout stages of the Club World Cup with Harry Kane and Michael Olise on target in a hard-fought 2-1 win over Argentina's Boca Juniors on Friday. HT Image After defeats for Paris Saint-Germain against Botofogo and Chelsea against Flamengo, Bayern bucked the trend of European teams falling to South American opponents with an accomplished victory in the Group C encounter. Hard Rock Stadium was packed to the rafters with Boca fans who once again brought incredible passion and noise to the NFL stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins. But Bayern soon set about quieting the 63,587 crowd with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka taking charge of central midfield and the movement of Bayern's frontline stretching the Boca defence. The German side thought they had the lead in the eighth minute when a corner from Olise passed untouched through a crowded six-yard box and into the net. But the referee was called to the monitor for a VAR review where he was able to clearly see that Serge Gnabry had blocked and tangled with Boca goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin, and the effort was ruled out. Ten minutes later, however, Bayern had the breakthrough when Boca were unable to fully clear a ball into the box and Kane pounced with a clinical left-foot shot into the bottom corner. Bayern smelled blood and pushed for a second Olise found Gnabry on the right and his low ball across the face of the goal was just inches away from the sliding Kingsley Coman. Boca desperately needed to find a foothold in the game and they came close when a thundering free-kick from Kevin Zenon was punched out by Manuel Neuer. Moments later Zenon tested the Bayern keeper again with another fierce strike which Neuer punched away with his right hand. But for all the signs of life from Boca, Bayern looked in comfortable charge of the game and Kane was close to making it 2-0 with a dangerous free-kick which dipped just too late and flashed over the bar. Bayern continued to look for a second after the interval and the busy Olise should have done better from close range but couldn't connect properly with an off-balance shot. Boca never gave up harrying and grafting though and their reward came in the 66th minute. On a turnover in midfield, Alan Velasco found Miguel Merentiel down the right and he powered goalwards, skipping around Josip Stanisic before producing a brilliant, confident finish past the helpless Neuer. It looked like South American clubs' unbeaten record in the tournament so far was going to hold, but with six minutes remaining Olise provided the decisive blow. After a scramble on the edge of the box, Kane found the France international with a delicate lay-off with the outside of his foot and Olise provided precision control with a superb side-foot finish into the corner. Konrad Laimer thought he had wrapped up the win with a third moments later but he was ruled offside. It was the first loss for a South American side in the competition and it leaves Boca with just one point going into their final game in the group. Bayern have the maximum six points after crushing Auckland City 10-0 in their opening game with Portugal's Benfica in second place on four points. sev/as This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
