We'll soon be halfway through 2025, and that means Netflix has served up an awful lot of new movies and TV shows to watch.
If you've not been able to keep up with Netflix's new releases, but want to try and start catching up on all the new shows you've missed out on, I can help. After all, keeping up with what's worth watching on the best streaming services is literally my job.
By scanning through a list of shows that have claimed the top spot in the streamer's most-watched charts throughout 2025 so far, I've put together a brief set of recommendations that I think are most deserving of a spot on your watchlist.
If you saw me break down the 10 Netflix No. 1 shows of 2025 to my top three choices earlier this year, you can skip ahead to the recommendations. Otherwise, before I move on, I'll quickly explain how I made my choices.
To build the initial list, I headed over to Tudum, where Netflix shares its weekly viewing data (available from the start of 2025 through to June 8, at the time of writing). After noting down the 15 shows that have risen to the top spot in a given week, I then whittled that list down to just three picks.
Because Netflix only gives us weekly data, I do have a couple of favorites that didn't fit into my criteria — I'd love to be spotlighting 'The Residence' and 'Dept. Q' — but rules are rules. So, with the methodology explained, I'll move on to my top three Netflix No. 1 shows of 2025 (so far)
I recommended 'Adolescence' last time around, but I couldn't bring myself to replace it just yet, thanks in no small part to the massive impact the four-part series has had.
This powerful limited series sees 'Boiling Point' star Stephen Graham and creator Philip Barantini reuniting to tell the story of a fictional family whose world is turned upside down when their 13-year-old son, Jamie (Owen Cooper), is arrested for the murder of a fellow female pupil.
Since its release, 'Adolescence' has become the No. 2 Most Popular English-language TV show (second only to 'Wednesday') and has sparked conversations about young people, healthy relationships and online radicalization.
'Adolescence' isn't just worthy of a mention owing to that impact, though. It's also an expertly crafted and brilliantly performed series in its own right, and one that you shouldn't miss out on. It's not a 'fun' series, as such, but it has lingered in my memory long after streaming it back in March.

If you're into "The White Lotus" brand of shows — TV series that whisk us away to luxury settings, and revolve around enigmatic or off-kilter affluent ensembles, with mysteries or secrets just waiting to come to the fore — then Molly Smith Metzler's glossy dark comedy "Sirens" should be on your radar.
Set over Labor Day weekend, "Sirens" sees us following Devon DeWitt (Meghann Fahy) to the lavish estate of socialite Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore). She's there because she thinks the Kells have brainwashed her younger sister Simone (Milly Alcock), who resides on-site as Michaela's live-in assistant. The problem is, Michaela proves to be a far more formidable opponent than Devon expected....
It might not have been as well-received as Metzler's previous Netflix creation, "Maid," but "Sirens" remains a worthy watch. It's a dark dramedy that's equal parts intriguing, dramatic, emotional, and, crucially, very funny, and can be powered through in a matter of hours. In my eyes, it's one of Netflix's best new originals of the year.
Watch "Sirens" on Netflix now
"The Four Seasons" is a hilarious eight-part comedy from Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield.
The series is based on the 1981 Alan Alda movie of the same name, and sees us accompanying a group of friends played by an impressive cast that includes the likes of Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte and Colman Domingo.
When the gang discovers that one of the three couples is about to call it quits, the entire group is upended by the news. The series plays out across a year and across four vacations, and shows how that decision affects the whole dynamic. It's easy, warm, and witty viewing: what more could you want?

Below, you can find the full list of the 15 Netflix series that have been a No. 1 show at some point in 2025 (listed alphabetically).
'Adolescence'
'American Manhunt; O.J. Simpson'
'American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden'
'American Murder: Gabby Petito'
'American Primeval'
'Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing'
'Ginny & Georgia' season 3
'Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer'
'Ransom Canyon'
'Running Point'
'Sirens'

Why Mckenna Grace and Mason Thames Are Sparking Dating Rumors in NYC

The Handmaid Tales' Mckenna Grace, 18, and How to Train Your Dragon's Mason Thames, 17, are playing love interests in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's Regretting You, but their off-camera rapport is sparking romantic rumors, too. Fans first questioned whether they could be dating when a TikTok of them sharing a playful staged kiss went viral in April 2025. Since then, they've been seen spending time together off set. On June 14, they were even photographed walking hand-in-hand in New York City. Although neither actor has explicitly confirmed they're romantically involved, they've spoken about the experience of working together and hanging out outside of work. Thames, in particular, had glowing things to say about his co-star: 'She is one of the most driven people I've ever met in my life,' he told Seventeen in June 2025. 'Every day I'm on set with her, I just want to be as good as Mckenna. She's such a sweet person, and getting to do this movie with her is so cool.' Here's a full breakdown of their relationship history so far: Grace and Thames made their first public appearance together at Netflix's Incoming House Party event. At the time, news had just surfaced that they would co-star in Regretting You. On April 7, Grace shared a TikTok clip of herself and Thames lip-syncing to a well-known 500 Days of Summer audio. The video ends with the two leaning in for a kiss before falling out of frame. Commenters quickly jumped to conclusions, wondering if the clip was a soft launch of a real-life romance or simply promotion for their film. On April 18, the two were spotted together at the Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA game at State Farm Arena. On May 5, Grace posted an Instagram carousel that included a photo of her and Thames. 'This is my jam!!🍓🎶🦈💕🎬,' she captioned it. In a June 13 interview with Seventeen, Thames addressed the viral kissing TikTok, saying, 'I didn't really know what to expect, but it was really funny. I had a lot of friends text me. It was hilarious.' He added it was Grace's idea: 'She was like, 'This is a TikTok—do you wanna do it?' And I was like 'Yeah, let's!' And we posted it, and then…Jesus.' While he didn't confirm or deny a romance, he acknowledged that the fan speculation about his love life has been strange to take in. 'I've always sort of been off the internet,' he said. 'I've always kind of kept everything to myself and been very personal. Having people speculate so much, especially having mutual friends texting me and asking…it's wild. I'm still not used to it.' He spoke a little about his adventures with Grace outside of work though, noting they once visited an aquarium. 'She has an aquarium playlist in her AirPods,' he recalled. 'So she had one in her ear, and I had one in mine while we looked at sharks.' He said that he hopes Grace has learned from his humor: 'I'd like to think I'm a funny person,' he said. 'So, you know, I'd like to think I make her funnier. Even though honestly, Mckenna is one of the funniest people I've ever met. She'll just says some stuff, and it catches me so off guard.' On June 14, Grace and Thames were photographed walking hand-in-hand through Soho in New York City, just as How to Train Your Dragon opened in theaters. The sighting further fueled dating rumors:

Astroworld is back in the spotlight and survivors are sharing haunting stories on TikTok

Astroworld is back in the news, and social media has some thoughts. In November 2021, a deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival claimed the lives of 10 people. The then-annual event, held in the rapper's hometown of Houston, became one of the worst concert tragedies in U.S. history. It is now the subject of the new Netflix documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy. With renewed interest in the incident, survivors have taken to social media to share their own footage from the event. 'Only if I knew bro,' one attendee posted on TikTok over footage of himself in the crowd. The audio accompanying the clip is taken from the documentary: 'It started getting pretty hectic,' one survivor says. 'I'm like 'Oh my god I can't take a deep breath,'' adds another. 'Since everyone else is sharing their Astroworld experience,' another TikTok user wrote in the caption of a clip, which shows him tightly packed in the crowd as Scott performs. 'Not too long after this I got bumped into due to the crowd swaying and ended up falling on top of someone in the fetal position,' he wrote. 'We ended up getting out but man it was a struggle.' In other horrifying footage, the panicking audience can be heard calling for help. 'I've never posted this video before, rest in peace to all innocent lives lost,' the closed captions read over the video. Even before Scott took the stage, the crowd seemed to sense something was wrong. 'We are gonna die,' one attendee 'jokes' in a clip, now with 10.3 million views, filming the unsafe conditions. 'Saying this as a joke but on the inside this was a real feeling,' she wrote in the closed captions. 'This about to be bad when it starts,' another can be heard saying. 'Bro literally called it,' the captions add. 'I believe Astroworld 2021 was not an accident,' crowd safety expert Scott Davidson says in the documentary. 'It was an inevitability due to the lack of foresight and the abandonment of basic safety protocols.' Nearly 5,000 people were injured as a result of the crush. The Netflix documentary, which premiered on June 10, features interviews with several survivors. In total, 10 people lost their lives: Axel Acosta, Danish Baig, Rudy Peña, Madison Dubiski, Franco Patiño, Jacob Jurinek, John Hilgert, Bharti Shahani, Brianna Rodriguez, and Ezra Blount, who was just nine years old.
