AP: Ethiopian Delegation visits RTGS cent
Vijayawada, June 12 (UNI) A delegation from Ethiopia visited the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) located in the Secretariat on Thursday. The 10-member delegation, led by Girum Ketema Teklemariam, Director of Ethiopia's Digital Agriculture and Finance Program, is currently touring Amaravati. As part of their visit, the delegation toured the RTGS facility.
RTGS Deputy CEO M. Madhuri welcomed the delegation and explained the functioning of RTGS. She described how RTGS is acting as a technological bridge between the government and the people. She stated that the RTGS system took shape from the visionary ideas of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to implement such a system.
She mentioned that a comprehensive data lake is being developed by integrating data from all government departments, which will help make governance more streamlined and effective. The government aims to deliver all services directly to citizens via their mobile phones, eliminating the need for people to visit government offices.
As part of this initiative, a WhatsApp Governance system under the name 'Mana Mitra' has been launched. Currently, 455 types of services are being offered through WhatsApp Governance, to expand to over a thousand services shortly.
An 'Aware Hub' has also been set up to provide real-time information on weather changes to the public. RTGS is continuously monitoring weather conditions in collaboration with ISRO. To ensure greater transparency and efficiency in government operations and to deliver better services to citizens, RTGS is extensively utilizing Artificial Intelligence. A dedicated AI Hub is being established within RTGS for this purpose.
RTGS is also providing the necessary technological support to government departments to ensure that the benefits of government schemes and programs effectively reach the people. The Ethiopian delegation expressed appreciation for the functioning of RTGS and praised the Government of Andhra Pradesh for establishing such an impressive technological system.
Accompanying the delegation were Agriculture Department Joint Director Balasubramanyam, Assistant Director VUV Ramana, and others.

Afghan dry fruit traders concerned over continued closure of Attari-Wagah border
Kabul, June 21 (UNI) The closure of the Attari–Wagah border crossing, one of Afghanistan's key trade routes to India, has raised serious concerns among dried fruit exporters of Afghanistan. The Kabul Dry Fruit Exporters Union has warned that stopping freight truck movement on this route could severely disrupt both fresh and dried fruit exports, Tolo News reported. The union has urged Pakistani and Indian authorities to reopen the route permanently for Afghan cargo trucks. Khalid Rahmani, spokesperson for the union, told TOLOnews, 'We hope alternative links through Wagah and Chabahar ports will open soon. Given the current political and trade tensions between Pakistan and India, we predict a decline in exports to both countries.' After the Indian and Pakistani military tensions eased, the border reopened briefly on May 9, allowing about 162 trucks to pass, but it was shut again. At least 12 Afghan export trucks remain stuck at the crossing. With the fruit harvest season approaching, traders warn that continued closure could pose major challenges for Afghan exports. They are calling for diplomatic engagement to reopen this critical trade route. Omid Haidari, head of international relations at the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock, said: 'We urge the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to strengthen contact with the Indian Foreign Ministry so that our major trade route can be reopened.' Merchant Mahboobullah Mohammadi, said, 'Our biggest export is dried fruit, especially pine nuts, which we mostly send to India via Wagah. But the decline in exports this year has brought significant losses. Our air corridors are still shut, and large amounts of pine nuts remain unsold in local markets.' The Wagah border was closed after tensions escalated between India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, on April 22. MEA revokes denial, grants Priyank Kharge clearance for US visit
Bengaluru, June 21 (UNI) In a sharp turn of events, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has revoked its earlier decision and granted him clearance for an official visit to the United States, five days after his scheduled departure and following public outcry. Taking to social media platform X, Kharge wrote, 'So in a U-turn, the Ministry of External Affairs has now decided to revoke its earlier decision and grant me a clearance for an official visit to the United States.' Kharge said he had applied for permission on May 15 to travel between June 14-27 to represent the Karnataka government at two major global forums and participate in over 25 official meetings with top companies, universities, and institutions to pitch for investments and explore collaborations. The minister highlighted that his initial delegation request was rejected, while subsequent applications — first for officials and later for the KEONICS chairman — were approved, showing a selective clearance process over three separate submissions between May 15 and June 14. Kharge said no official explanation was provided for the denial of his own application. On June 19, he held a press conference highlighting the chronology and alleging political interference. By the same evening, the MEA issued a fresh No Objection Clearance dated June 19, effectively reversing its earlier stance. '36 days after my original application, 15 days after the denial, and five days after my scheduled departure, they 'revoke' their decision,' he noted, questioning the timing and intent behind the clearance. He further asked, 'Why was the clearance denied in the first place? Was it revoked only after the matter became public? What is the point of a clearance after the key events are over?' Criticising the Centre, Kharge said while the Union Government promotes slogans like 'Make in India', 'Digital India', and the 'India AI Mission', it is states like Karnataka that are driving real progress. He alleged that despite leading on innovation and job creation, Karnataka is being obstructed politically. Referring to the Prime Minister's statement, MAGA + MIGA = MEGA', Kharge asked, 'What does that even mean in practice, when the very state driving India's tech and innovation engine is denied the support it needs to lead globally?' LIC Housing Finance reduces lending rates to 7.50 pc on new home loans
Kolkata, June 21 (UNI) LIC Housing Finance has reduced its rate of interest on new home loans by 50 basis points. With this revision, interest rates on new home loan sanctions will now start from 7.50 per cent effective June 19, 2025, coinciding with the company's 36th foundation day. This move follows the recent repo rate cuts announced by the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), with LIC HFL passing on the benefit to new home loan customers to encourage home ownership and improve affordability, an LIC statement said on Saturday. "As we mark our 36th Foundation Day, we remain committed to making home ownership more accessible. The rate cut is a continuation of our effort to align with RBI's policy direction and pass on the benefits to our customers.
