Troy Aikman Clarifies Cowboys Super Bowl Prediction
FRISCO - Now that the Dallas Cowboys schedule is officially out, everybody it seems has an opinion on it.
Legendary quarterback Troy Aikman made an appearance on ESPN Wednesday night to break down the network's slate of Monday Night Football games. He was also asked about the Cowboys as their schedule flashed on the screen.

But before analyzing their lineup of games, Aikman took time to clear up his shocking prediction earlier this week that his former team would win Super Bowl LX in February.
"Well, that was ... ya know ... people tend to get excited and overreact to everything these days," Aikman said. "I was half-joking because Michael Strahan was in the studio."
But while he did backpedal on the Cowboys winning the championship for the first time since he led them to Super Bowl XXX in 1996, Aikman doubled-down on them having a surprisingly successful season.
"I understand the Eagles are the cream of the crop and Washington will be better," he said. "But I do think Dallas has been flying under the radar this offseason and rightfully so. They don't deserve a lot of talk at this point. But I do believe that they're going to be ... not just because they were injured last year ... I think they're going to be a better football team this year and they may surprise some people. I know in Dallas there's always talk about a Super Bowl and, who knows, it's been a while as we know. But I do think they're going to contend and be stronger than they've probably gotten credit for at this point."

"Contend and be stronger" may not equate to winning a Super Bowl, or even the NFC East. But Aikman obviously expects more than seven wins from his former team.
And we also know this: Good or bad, the TV networks still love America's Team. Counting Thanksgiving against the Kansas City Chiefs and Christmas Day against the Washington Commanders, the Cowboys will play eight times when they are the only game on TV.

As Micah Parsons contract negotiations continue, Cowboys should remember the key ingredient to their ‘instant grits' defense
When the Dallas Cowboys secondary took the field in recent years, they waited for the signal. How quickly should they expect their opponent to get the ball out? Al Harris, Dallas' defensive backs coach from 2021-24, would give them a clue. In other words: How effective was the Cowboys' pass rush at pressuring and hurrying the quarterback? Harris' metaphor came in handy most when edge rusher Micah Parsons was healthy. Harris, also the Cowboys' assistant coach last year, knew which play calls gave the two-time All-Pro edge rusher the green light to pressure and when his defensive backs should be ready accordingly. Injuries limited Parsons to 13 games in 2024, but Parsons nonetheless finished with the fifth-most quarterback pressures in the league. With 75 total pressures, his 5.77 per game led the league among defenders who played at least a third of the season, per NFL Next Gen Stats. Parsons has met those criteria 335 times in four regular seasons with Dallas. He's raced to 52.5 sacks in that period. Harris learned to tee off his secondary to takeaway opportunities Parsons' pressure would create. 'It'd be like second quarter [and I'd say,] 'Hey, grits hot,'' Harris said. 'They'll give me a chance to watch Micah rush a couple of times to where I say, 'OK, he's going to beat these guys all day. And I just say, 'Hey man, grits hot, so let's get to the ball. Dallas' 2021 first-round pick is a game-wrecker. And the Cowboys are currently negotiating an extension with Parsons. Closing the deal hasn't gone as quickly as cooking instant grits. But will Dallas and Parsons find a middle ground soon? Parsons attended minicamp practices this month as he enters the final year of his contract, the fifth-year option of his rookie deal that Dallas picked up. Schottenheimer praised Parsons' attendance. 'I think it just shows you he's serious about what we've talked about, which is developing that leadership mentality, the mindset to be a guy that we can count on —and not just the fourth quarter when he's got to make a big sack or get pressure on the quarterback, but just in general throughout the course of a week,' Schottenheimer told reporters. 'I'm still hanging tight. I understand it's up to [Jerry Jones] and he gives the green light on everything. So hopefully something's done by next month.' 'We'll watch film together and I can tell guys what I see from a vetted experience.' Peyton Manning credits Jalen Hurts for talking him out of QB rankings discussions
Peyton Manning won't be entertaining QB rankings discussions following a year-old conversation with Jalen Hurts One day, when we're all old and grey, we'll have quite a few stories to tell the grandchildren about great quarterback play. Who knows? Maybe we'll discuss Jalen Hurts with them. Maybe we can, at that time, discuss several Super Bowls he won with the Philadelphia Eagles. It's hard to imagine an NFL career getting off to a more fiery start, unless, of course, we could travel back in time and fix the field at Super Bowl 57. By raising the Vince Lombardi Trophy last February, Jalen made waves by losing his first Super Bowl and getting back to win another one. It isn't something we have seen happen very often. Shout out to John Elway! But, it's Hurts' time now. He's one of the young offensive signal-callers filling a void few thought could be filled, a mammoth-sized hole left by Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Speaking of Peyton Manning... Peyton Manning jokes that Jalen Hurts may have talked him out of the QB rankings business Here's a funny story for those looking for a chuckle. While hanging out at Fanatics Fest in NYC, Peyton joked that he wouldn't be offering a 2025 version of the top five NFL quarterbacks list he shared last season. Last year, when he did the same, he received a call from Jalen Hurts about 20 minutes later asking Manning why the Eagles' quarterback was omitted. There has seemingly been no word about whether or not Jalen and Peyton's conversation added any more fuel for his quest to win Super Bowl 59 last season. Still, based on everything we have learned about Hurts up to this point, we're going to assume it did. We'd also like to thank Manning for any additional comments that he might make about the Eagles' gunslinger in the future. At this point, praise, criticism, oversights, backhanded compliments, and disrespect are all welcome. Oh, and by the way. Did you catch that? Who knew that Hurts had Manning on speed dial and that these two were so friendly? Alabama and Tennessee quarterbacks are hanging out now. Who would have ever guessed?
