‘Massive Success': How NIA Got Names Of 3 Pakistani Terrorists Who Carried Out Pahalgam Attack

News1816 hours ago

Top NIA officials said they are working on the leads provided by the arrested accused to understand where the three terrorists could be hiding
In a fresh twist to the Baisaran terror case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed that three Pakistani nationals carried out the massacre killing 26 people.
NIA spokesperson said these three are Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists whose names and identity has surfaced for the first time.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, soon after the attack, had released photos of three suspects, including locals such as Adil Hussain Tokar, a local terrorist from Anantnag in south Kashmir. The two others were Pakistani Hashim Musa and Ali Bhai.
'We have arrested two people and they have revealed that three Pakistani Lashkar terrorists were involved in Baisaran. These three are not the same whose sketches were released," a NIA official said.
The two men arrested by the NIA in this case are accused of harbouring the terrorists who carried out the Baisaran massacre. 'Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam – have disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)," the NIA spokesperson said.
As per the NIA probe, Parvaiz and Bashir had 'knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack".
'The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, who had, on the fateful afternoon, selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity, making it one of the most gruesome terrorist attacks ever," the NIA spokesperson said.
This is the first arrest made in the case, one-and-a-half months since the attack. Top NIA officials said they are working on the leads provided by the arrested accused to understand where the three terrorists could be hiding. A massive manhunt was launched based on the sketches released by JK police, but the fresh revelations have led to renewed efforts to identify the absconding Baisaran killers. 'This is a massive success," police officials in Jammu and Kashmir said.
The NIA has arrested Parvez and Bashir under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The agency will seek further custody to question the duo after producing them in court.

2 held for sheltering Pahalgam attackers

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two men for allegedly harbouring the terrorists who killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam two months ago, the agency said on Sunday, marking the first set of arrests in connection with the terror attack. ITBP personnel patrol an area at Betaab Valley of Pahalgam ahead of reopening of tourists places in the area, which were closed in view of security considerations after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in Anantnag district, Sunday (PTI) In a statement, NIA said that Pahalgam residents Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar knew about the terror affiliations of the three gunmen and provided them with shelter, food and logistical support in the days leading up to the April 22 attack. 'Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack. The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists who selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity,' the anti-terror agency said in a statement and added the two have been charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act's (UAPA) Section 19 (punishment for harbouring or concealing a terrorist). The agency did not disclose further information about the two men. Authorities detained close to 2,000 people for questioning in the aftermath of the attack. 'The duo has also disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT),' the anti-terror agency said in the statement. Also Read | 'Attack on every Indian's soul': PM Modi on Pahalgam terror attack at G7 Summit Authorities earlier identified the suspected attackers as Hashim Musa, also known as Suleiman, and Ali Bhai, also called Talha Bhai — both Pakistani nationals — and local operative Adil Hussain Thokker. The agency did not clarify on Sunday if the three terrorists alluded to in its statement were same as the ones identified earlier. NIA, which is formally investigating the case, has questioned hundreds of people over two months, including suspected collaborators, pony operators, vendors and tourism workers. Investigators have also examined videos and photographs taken by families at Baisaran meadow on the day of the attack. HT reported on Sunday that security forces are pursuing two theories about the whereabouts of the terrorists, with officials divided over whether the attackers remain in hiding or have fled to Pakistan. The Resistance Front, a proxy group for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba organisation, claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian agencies say the group is a front used by Pakistan to avoid international sanctions. As first reported by HT on April 24, intelligence agencies traced the attack's digital communications to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, establishing Pakistani involvement in what officials described as similar to the control room-operated 2008 Mumbai attacks. India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 militants. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.

(File photo) NEW DELHI: Three attackers - all Pakistani terrorists affiliated to Lashkar-e-Taiba - executed the brutal killing of 26 men, including 25 tourists, in Pahalgam on April 22, as per disclosures by two Kashmiris arrested by National Investigation Agency Sunday for harbouring the three terrorists prior to the attack. The arrests of Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam, and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam, mark a big breakthrough in the case that shook the nation. The attack, the origins of which were traced to masterminds based in Pakistan, had led to retaliatory strikes by India on terror facilities and later even military assets inside Pakistan.

HC directs CMC to stop manual drain cleaning

1 2 Cuttack: Orissa high court has taken sou motu cognisance of a media report highlighting hazardous manual drain cleaning by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) by allegedly engaging minor boys in clear violation of safety norms and child labour laws and directed the immediate halting of "such unsafe and unethical practices". The special bench for PILs concerning civic issues in Cuttack expressed serious concern over the "inhumane methodology" adopted by CMC. The bench of Justices S K Sahoo and V Narasingh said, "Needless to say, ensuring the health and safety of labourers is crucial for productive outcome. This involves implementing measures to prevent work-related injuries, diseases and hazards." "Manual drain cleaning often leads to hazardous conditions and can result in serious injuries or fatalities due to exposure to toxic fumes, sharp objects and even poisonous snakes," the bench added. The court directed that such manual and dangerous methods of drain cleaning must be discontinued immediately. It emphasised the need to shift to safer and technologically advanced cleaning mechanisms and underscored that no violation of the child labour law would be tolerated. The media report had highlighted an incident where labourers, including minors, were engaged in clearing stormwater drains carrying sewage without any protective gear. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy One, Get One Free, Up To 50% Discount, Expiring Soon Original Adidas Get Offer Undo A labourer was seen balancing on a motor tube and swimming bare-bodied through the main stormwater channel (MSWC-I) from Matru Bhawan to Nua Bazaar, using only a bamboo stick to remove weeds. Minors were also reported to be working along the banks to clear vegetation in what appears to be a violation of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. In its order dated June 19, the bench instructed CMC to prepare and submit a comprehensive action plan by July 31. The plan must outline strategies to streamline drain cleaning operations, prevent waterlogging, deploy suitable machinery and ensure proper training of workers. The matter will be taken up for further consideration on July 31.
