Ajit Pawar launches Pune city traffic app
Pune, June 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and guardian minister of Pune district Ajit Pawar on Saturday launched an app developed by the Pune city Police Commissionerate for a real time two-way communication between the citizens on the move and the traffic police to get immediate information about the traffic situation to prevent snarls and enhance ease of driving.
The PTP TRAFFIC COP APP has been developed based on the concept of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. Additional Commissioner of Police of Eastern Regional Division of Pune city Manoj Patil presented information about this app through a video.
The inaugural event was organized at Vidhan Bhavan which was attended by divisional commissioner Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar, police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, his counterpart in Pimpri Chinchwad Vinay Kumar Choubey, special inspector general of police of Kolhapur range Sunil Phulari, Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner Navalkishore Ram, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh and others.
Among the many urban problems in Pune, the city people mainly face traffic jams and accidents caused by it. Pollution caused by traffic has become yet another big problem. One of the main reasons is the lack of effective action against drivers who violate traffic rules.
In this app, citizens can upload photos of drivers who commit serious traffic violations such as parking vehicles on sidewalks, driving on the footpaths, violating heavy vehicle restrictions, using mobile phones while driving, driving a triple seat vehicle, using black films, using fancy number plates and driving in the opposite direction from no entry passages.

Punjab: BKI terror module operated by UK-based handler busted, One held
Chandigarh, June 21 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module being operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu with the arrest of a local operative and recovered six sophisticated foreign-made pistols from his possession, said DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday. The arrested accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab of village Jalalusma in Amritsar. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the Indo-Pak border, includes four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30 bore PX5 pistols. DGP Yadav said that the foreign-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu, who has been operating the terror module, is a close associate of Pak-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and unearth the broader network, he said. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the arrest followed precise intelligence and coordination. "The accused disclosed during interrogation that the weapons were delivered via drones and were meant for disruptive activities," he added. He said that preliminary investigations revealed the accused was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. "The weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities in state. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages," said the CP, while adding that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and handlers. Two arrested in Rs 74 lakh investment fraud case by Hyd cyber-crime police
Hyderabad, June 21 (UNI) Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have arrested two individuals from Pune, Maharashtra for their involvement in an online investment scam that defrauded a 65-year-old man from Tolichowki of Rs 74.36 lakh. Police seized two mobile phones, four SIM cards, and two cheque books from their possession. Based on a complaint, the Cyber Crime Police arrested Rushikesh Jaywant Kamble from Pune and Sohel Mohammad Sultan Shaikh from Maharashtra, according to a police statement on Saturday. The accused lured the victim via WhatsApp, sending a fake trading application link under the name "Abott Wealth Management" and promised high returns on investments. Trusting their claims, the victim deposited the amount, only to discover later that the app was blocked and communication severed. A case was registered under multiple sections of the IT Act and BNS, leading to the arrests. The accused used multiple bank accounts—both personal and proxy—to receive funds and carried out fraudulent transactions using cheque books and internet banking. UNI VV GNK

HP High Court Raps HPU for withholding Associate Professor's Salary
Shimla, Jun 21 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court has pulled up Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) for withholding the salary of an Associate Professor for over two years, despite his promotion under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). Justice Sandeep Sharma, while allowing a civil writ petition filed by Dr. Bhawani Singh, directed HPU to release the pending salary within six weeks. Dr. Singh, appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2016 in the Department of Hindi, was promoted to Associate Professor on September 9, 2022, under UGC norms. The promotion was approved by the university's Executive Council through an office order dated July 4, 2023. However, HPU withheld the salary, citing lack of approval from the state government. The court noted that Dr. Singh was working in the higher post but denied its pay scale. 'The petitioner, who admittedly at present is working against the higher post, is being denied salary of the higher post,' the order stated, terming the university's conduct as 'bad in law' and 'unjustified.' HPU's repeated attempts to seek approval from the Finance Department were blocked, as the department claimed that the Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme ceased with the introduction of the Himachal Pradesh Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2022. However, the court rejected this reasoning, asserting that UGC regulations, having statutory force, must prevail over state policies in such matters. Citing Supreme Court rulings in Gambhirdan K. Gadhvi v. State of Gujarat and Prof. (Dr.) Sreejith P.S v. Dr. Rajshree M.S, the court emphasized that UGC norms are binding on state universities. 'UGC Regulations should become part of the statute framed by Parliament and, therefore, shall prevail,' Justice Sharma said. The court ruled that state government approval was not a precondition for releasing the salary. Failure to comply with the order within six weeks will entitle Dr. Singh to interest at 6% per annum on the delayed payment. Senior Advocate Sanjeev Bhushan, assisted by L.S.
