Aaron Judge Offers Candid Confession Ahead of First Father's Day
Aaron Judge Offers Candid Confession Ahead of First Father's Day originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As important as a primetime showdown with the rival Boston Red Sox is, one can't fault New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge for having a little something extra on his mind Sunday night.

This weekend marks Judge's first Father's Day since he and his wife, Samantha, welcomed their daughter during the offseason. Nora Rose Judge was born on Jan. 27, two months before Judge and the Yankees began their latest pennant chase.
On the field, it's been business as usual for Judge, who is on pace for his third AL MVP in four years. Judge has an outside chance at becoming the first hitter since Red Sox legend Ted Williams to hit over .400, and he's already tallied a league-high 5.6 bWAR for the first-place Yankees.
'Hopefully, she's old enough to see me play this game,' Judge told Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch. 'I might be a little older by the time she really starts recognizing what's going on.
'I just want to teach her the importance of hard work, the importance of showing up every day for something, and the importance of being a team player,' Judge continued. 'It's all about the little things.'

When that time comes, Nora will see both her father and one of the greatest modern sluggers. Judge enters Tuesday leading the league in average (.394) and OPS (1.269). His 25 home runs trail only Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh's 26.
Thankfully for Judge, he's mastered long home runs and changing diapers.
'I love doing it all,' Judge said. 'Especially if it helps her or helps my wife.'

Judge has excelled as the Yankees' captain the last three seasons. His newest role, though, is an entirely different challenge—not that he's focusing on the harder parts of it.
'She brings me so much joy, so much excitement, so much wonder,' Judge said.

'Especially on the good days or bad days here at work, when I come home to her, everything changes,' Judge continued.

J.C. Escarra emerging as Yankees' latest success story at catcher
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free There are former Yankee catchers thriving in a handful of spots around the league, from Luis Torrens with the Mets to Carlos Narváez in Boston. Agustín Ramírez has shown promise with the Marlins and veteran Jose Trevino is having a resurgent year with the Reds. All of those backstops have been dealt in the past year or so by the Yankees, who are now using J.C. Escarra as Austin Wells' primary backup, with Ben Rice filling in as well now that Giancarlo Stanton is back in the DH spot. Escarra impressed again in Saturday's 9-0 rout of the Orioles in The Bronx, as the lefty-swinging catcher not only hit his second homer of the season — this one into the second deck in right field — but also guided Clarke Schmidt through seven no-hit innings. Asked which accomplishment he was more excited about, Escarra said, 'Both.'' J.C. Escarra hits a home run during the Yankees-Orioles game on June 21, 2025. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect 'It was a great day for J.C.,' Aaron Boone said. 'He's been terrific all season for us behind the plate and we know what kind of hitter he is.' Escarra homered off Zach Eflin in the second inning, hit a sacrifice fly in the third, reached on an error in the fifth on a ball smoked at 106 mph that was muffed by second baseman Jackson Holliday, and added an RBI single in the sixth. 'He's capable of that,' Boone said of Escarra's offense. 'He had good at-bats today … [and] helped set the tone with the home run.' With Wells, Escarra and Rice all hitting from the left side, there's no perfect way to split playing time. Boone, when asked how the team would handle playing time with Rice's role behind the plate likely increasing, said, 'We'll see. Keep pushing.' CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS But Escarra certainly has given the Yankees reason to get him in the lineup, as he was one of a handful of left-handed hitters who made Eflin's life miserable Saturday, forcing him out of the game after three innings. J.C. Escarra (L.) talks with Clarke Schmidt during the Yankees-Orioles game on June 21, 2025. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Escarra has proven to be an excellent pitch framer and pitchers entered Saturday with a combined 2.79 ERA with him as their battery-mate this year. And that was before Schmidt extended his scoreless streak to a career-high 25 ¹/₃ innings. Escarra said he didn't notice Schmidt's no-hit bid until the sixth or seventh inning. 'I didn't look at the [scoreboard] because I was so focused on the game, but you notice things and thoughts creep into your head,'' Escarra said of Schmidt potentially getting the no-hitter. But Schmidt's pitch count — 103 through seven innings — prevented any chance of that happening, which was about the only disappointment for Escarra and the Yankees against Baltimore.

Angel Reese's ‘Mebounds' Trademark Sparks Reaction After Low First-Half Rebound Total
Angel Reese's 'Mebounds' Trademark Sparks Reaction After Low First-Half Rebound Total originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese led the WNBA in rebounds per game during her rookie season with 13.1, and it's clear she's continued her success on the boards this year. She entered Saturday's game against the Phoenix Mercury once again leading the league, averaging 11.7 rebounds per game. Advertisement With rebounding as her clear strength, all eyes are on her each time she steps on the floor to battle for boards. However, fans have argued that most of her rebounds come from her own misses. They've even gone as far as calling them "Mebounds" instead of rebounds. Reese found it funny and instead of taking it personally, opted to capitalize on it. Last Saturday, she filed a trademark for "Mebounds" and has since announced a new line of merchandise. Fans responded on social media during the Sky's game against the Mercury after Reese finished the first half with just one rebound, as Chicago trailed 58-43. Chicago Sky forward Angel Krzaczynski-Imagn Images "Imagine trademarking a dumb (expletive) name like Mebounds and only having one in two quarters at 6'3. Angel Reese is (expletive) bro," one fan said. Advertisement "'Mebounds' only -13 points while on the floor just in the first half. Somebody needs to coach her before she becomes a full fledged bricklayer," another wrote. "Angel Reese made a whole (expletive) brand about Mebounds and you got 1 at half smh holy air ball," added a fan. "I don't think this girl has hit her rebounds line since the whole 'mebounds' (expletive)," one said. "already -13 while on the floor just in the first half. Needs a coach that will bench her (expletive) every time she rebounds and go back for another miss put back. Grab the rebound and pass it back out to a teammate for a clean look," a fan added. Advertisement "Mebound 'huh,'" one wrote.
