'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Rumored To Bring Back Fan-Favorite MCU Character
The long wait for the fourth Spider-Man movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally paying off. The highly-anticipated follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home , now titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day , is on the fast-track for production. Now a rumor suggests that a fan-favorite MCU character will be brought back for the Spider-Man sequel.
While there are several characters that have frequently been part of the Spider-Man film saga, we know all too well that plans can change as easily as they come together. As such, fans are never too certain when a character will come back or be dropped out completely. Fortunately, if this rumor is to be believed, one such Marvel character will be retained for the fourth installment.
Obviously, given that this is a rumor, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Though it wouldn't exactly be a stretch. According to a new rumor, fans will get to see a familiar face that goes way back to Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy which starred Tobey Maguire as the titular superhero.
Specifically, Daniel Richtman claims that actor J.K. Simmons will be back as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Brand New Day . The actor previously portrayed Jameson in all three installments of Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy before being brought back in a surprising role for 2021's Spider-Man: Far From Home . This paved the way for other familiar Raimi characters to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home .
It would certainly be exciting to have Simmons come back as his iconic character for the new Spider-Man film, not only because it provides a nice lineage of history to the Raimi trilogy, but he's always been a fantastic choice for Jameson. It'll also be a nice example of continuity for a film that is expected to have Peter Parker's life change quite a bit including the supporting characters around him.
Fans will be able to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day including its returning and new characters when it hits theaters on July 31, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them.

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Dogma" and "Chasing Amy" writer/director Kevin Smith will once more be writing Daredevil. ‘Ginny And Georgia' Finally Dethroned In Netflix's Top 10 List By A New Show
Ginny and Georgia Outside of a brief brush with the WWE, Ginny and Georgia has remained on top of Netflix's top 10 list for a full two weeks since it released on June 5. Fans waited years for it to return, and they were not going to miss its arrival at last. But now, at long last, Ginny and Georgia has fallen down Netflix's top 10 list, dethroned by not just one but two new shows. It's now in third, and second place is America's Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, the reality series following the auditions for the famed cheerleading team and their performances and drama behind the scenes. This is season 2, which my wife has already watched, and I'm struck by how little drama there is behind the scenes, as all the girls feel like best friends, for the most part. Top 10 The new number one show on Netflix is The Waterfront. Here's the synopsis: This very much reminds me of a previous Netflix series, Bloodlines, and then sprinkling in a bit of Ozark as well. I suppose, given that most people liked those shows, Netflix is trying to find another hit in that vein, as neither are airing anymore. I am interested in the series not because of its concept but because of its cast. First, it stars Holt McCallany, Netflix royalty as one of the two stars of Mindhunter. In giving interviews about The Waterfront, he made news that it was possible that Mindhunter may return for a third season in the form of three two-hour movies, which would essentially be six episodes, but it's all down to David Fincher. In another lead role is Melissa Benoist, who was the CW's Supergirl for multiple years, and she'll always have a special place in my heart for that, even as she's about to be replaced by Milly Alcock in the DCU (star of another big Netflix show in the past month, Sirens). I also know Humberly González, as she played the lead role in a recent video game, Star Wars Outlaws. Oh, and she's in 18 episodes of Ginny and Georgia, the show she just dethroned here alongside her cast. It remains to be seen how The Waterfront will perform. A top spot debut like this is a big deal. It has a 67% critic score, but that's only with six reviews in. There isn't enough data for an audience score yet, so we will wait and see.
