Dubai, UAE: The President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Mohammed Ben Sulayem will embark on a high-level visit to Japan this week, underscoring the strategic importance of the country in shaping the future of global mobility, automotive innovation, and motorsport development.
The visit reaffirms the FIA's commitment, as the global governing body for motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, to collaborating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), global governments, mobility clubs and national sport authorities (ASNs) to advance sustainable mobility and inclusive motorsport growth.
Japan, as a leading technological and industrial powerhouse, plays a critical role in driving innovations that have far-reaching, worldwide impact.
Mobility innovation in the country is setting global standards, with advanced public transportation systems, smart city development, ongoing research into alternative fuels, and growing Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms. Last year's Japan Mobility Show attracted record numbers of over 1.25m as it emphasised sustainability and cross-industry collaboration.
In the sporting sector the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) reported over 200,000 licensed drivers actively participating in motorsport – a growth of over 20% in the last five years, alongside record attendance at this year's Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, marking the highest turnout since 2006.
During his visit, Ben Sulayem will engage in key discussions with prominent government leaders and stakeholders, including Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Koji Murofushi the Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency, and Hiromasa Nakano, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Hosted by JAF, Ben Sulayem will also take part in a tour of the City Circuit and JAF Control Tower, showcasing Japan's investment in motorsport infrastructure and urban racing concepts.

FIA President Ben Sulayem highlights technological milestones being reached, new talent emerging on global stage Dubai, UAE: The Middle East's prominence on the global motorsport stage has been underlined for another year with confirmation of the FIA's major world championship calendars for 2026. The Formula 1 STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will take place on Jeddah's street circuit on 17-19 April next year in a 24-race championship which will see the next generation of F1 cars running on 100% sustainable fuels. This was confirmed at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau yesterday which was chaired by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem as the Federation's global community gathered for the FIA's annual conference. The 2026 FI World Championship again includes three other Middle East rounds, in Bahrain on 10-12 April, Qatar from 27-29 Nov and Abu Dhabi, the traditional final Grand Prix of the season from 4-6 December. Saudi again stages back-to-back Jeddah races in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar on 13-14 February, while the Middle East also has four rounds in the 2026 F2 Championship coinciding with the F1 races in Bahrain, Saudi, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Once again, the Dakar Rally in Saudi commences next year's FIA World Rally-Raid Championship from 3-17 Jan, with the Rally du Maroc taking place from 28 Sept-3 October and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge on 22-27 Nov. Bahrain represents the Middle East in the ten-round F3 calendar. FIA President Ben Sulayem told World Motor Sport Council members: '2025 is proving to be an exciting year across all our championships with technological milestones being reached, new talent emerging, and battles being fought on the track and across stages each week.' 'This year is a powerful opportunity for us to innovate and grow. The World Council approved one of the final pieces of the compelling puzzle that is coming together to mark the start of a brand-new era for the FIA World Rally Championship from 2027. The WRC27 ruleset has been undergoing its final refinements and updates over the past six months, and confirmation in Macau of the reference volumes for bodywork cements the commitment set out by the FIA to put flexibility at the core of these regulations. To achieve this, the rules define a zone in which all of the bodywork panels must be located, but within this volume, manufacturers and constructors have the freedom to scale and integrate almost any design. This means that, without effecting performance, cars ranging from saloons to hatchbacks, cross-overs and completely bespoke designs could be entered over the ten-year regulation cycle through to 2037. Yara Sameh Following one of the more unique auctions the industry has seen in some time, Amazon MGM Studios has landed a film and docuseries package on the legendary Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race with movie stars Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum involved. Tatum is attached to star in the film about the motorcycle races, which will be directed by Dog director Reid Carolin, who also wrote the script with Jason Keller and Bryan Johnson. It will be produced by Tatum and Carolin's Free Association, Pitt's Plan B and Entertainment 360's Guymon Casady and Jason Keller. The docuseries was filmed during last year's TT races with never-before-seen access to the riders and the races due to an exclusive partnership between the producers and the event promoters. It was produced by the same group, along with pre-eminent sports documentary producer Box to Box Films and Mediawan — the leading independent European studio and majority stakeholder of Plan B — with the participation of Entourage Ventures. Plot details remain under wraps, but the scope and history of the legendary race have all the notes of an epic feature film. Long before Formula 1, World Endurance and MotoGP, there was the Isle of Man TT. As the world's oldest continuously running motorsport event, it remains a one-of-a-kind spectacle. With riders pushing man and machine to the edge at nearly 200 mph, the TT represents the pinnacle of sporting endeavor and the relentless pursuit of glory. However, the 2022 launch of livestreaming through the TT's OTT platform, TT+, marked a new era, offering full coverage of every qualifying session and race. Tatum and Carolin have had strong ties going back to when the two launched the Magic Mike franchise that Tatum starred in, Carolin penned and both produced. The film would mark the second film Carolin has directed following the hit MGM feature Dog, which Tatum also starred in and produced.
