Wallet allegedly stolen from Guelph woman in distraction theft, police say

The Guelph Police Service are asking for help identifying two people after they said a woman in her 70s had her wallet allegedly taken from her two months ago.
Police said the woman went to a bank downtown on April 23 to take money out of an ATM. She told police she then left the bank and stopped to help another woman who dropped coins on the floor. She said she also noticed a different woman was standing very closely behind her at the time.
Police said when the woman went to another nearby business and reached into her open purse to grab her wallet, she realized it was missing. She told police that she then went back to the bank where she learned almost $2,000 was withdrawn and purchases were made on her account.
Police are looking to identify the two people pictured, who they believe have information on the incident.

Man on Canada-wide driving prohibition facing charges after numerous hit-and-runs

A 39-year-old man who was subject to a Canada-wide driving prohibition is facing a long list of charges after he was allegedly involved in a string of hit-and-run collisions in Mississauga while impaired by drugs. Police say that several people called 911 to report a pickup truck driving erratically near Dixie Road and the Queen Elizabeth Way on June 12. Officers responded to the area and immediately spotted the truck travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of Dixie Road, police say. At that point the officers attempted to stop the truck but police say the driver fled the area at a high rate of speed. 'The driver was seen driving on the sidewalk and collided with several other vehicles and, at times, traveling more than twice the posted speed limit,' police said in a news release. Police say that officers opted to pursue the suspect due to the 'significant risk' posed to the public. The suspect ultimately struck a pole a short time later, rendering his vehicle inoperable. Police say that he exited the vehicle and attempted to carjack another motorist but was immediately apprehended by officers. Police say that investigators later discovered that the truck he was operating was stolen and equipped with counterfeit plates. Gary Walker, of no fixed address, has been charged with nine offences in connection with the incidents, including operation while impaired by drugs, robbery and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Police say that at the time of his arrest Walker was the subject of nine separate provincial driving prohibitions dating back to 2003. 'He has been convicted on numerous occasions for driving while impaired and driving while suspended. He is currently subject to Canada-wide driving prohibition which has been in place since 2012,' the news release notes. 'Bail was denied and he remains in custody.' Police say that they believe there may be additional victims and they are urging anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward.

Teenager struck in hit and run incident in Surrey, Sunday
A teenager was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries Sunday after a hit and run in Surrey. A police investigation is underway after a 14-year-old boy was struck and injured in a hit and run in Surrey, B.C., Sunday night. Officers were called to a crash at the intersection of Old Yale Road and Mall Access, between Holland Park and Central City Mall, shortly after 10 p.m., the Surrey Police Service said in a statement Monday. A 14-year-old boy was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver fled the scene, the statement said. Officers found the vehicle near 104 Avenue and Whalley Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. and arrested the driver for impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have any relevant information, CCTV or dash cam video, is asked to contact Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2025-51543.

Surrey, B.C., hit and run sends 14-year-old boy to hospital
A 14-year-old boy was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run collision with a vehicle in Surrey, B.C., on Sunday, according to the Surrey Police Service. Police say they were called to the intersection of Old Yale Road and Mall Access, between Holland Park and Central City Mall, shortly after 10 p.m. "Officers arrived to find that a 14-year-old boy had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene," said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton in a news release. The vehicle's driver was later found near 104 Avenue and Whalley Boulevard around 2:15 a.m. Monday. "The driver was arrested for both impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. The investigation remains in its early stages and no charges have been laid," Houghton said. The incident occurred after the end of the nearby B.C. Halal Food Fest at Holland Park. Police are asking witnesses or those who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2025-51543 (SP).
