Rajasthan Royals pick Nandre Burger as injury replacement for Sandeep Sharma
Jaipur, May 8 (UNI) Rajasthan Royals have signed South African pacer Nandre Burger as an injury replacement for Sandeep Sharma for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Sandeep played the first 10 matches of IPL 2025 for the Royals and picked up nine wickets at an average of just over 40. His best figures of 2/21 came against the Punjab Kings.
However, Sandeep sustained a finger injury while attempting to stop a powerful drive from Shubman Gill off his own bowling during RR's match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 28.
The 31-year-old right-arm pacer, however, bravely completed the final eight deliveries of his spell in the match. He underwent scans later, which confirmed a fracture and ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Left-arm pacer Nandre Burger is a full-fledged international for South Africa and has represented the Proteas in all three formats of international cricket. He has played 69 T20s in his career, picking up 77 wickets.
Burger has previously played for RR in IPL 2024, where he picked up seven wickets from six games.
He joins RR for INR 3.5 crore.
The 29-year-old Burger is the second South African added to the RR squad. Earlier on Thursday, Lhuan-dre Pretorius was named as an injury replacement for Nitish Rana.
RR have two matches left to play in the IPL 2025 league stage. They will face CSK in Chennai on May 12 before returning home to Jaipur to host Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium for their final game of the season.

'He's Doing The Best He Can': Manjrekar Backs Prasidh's Selection In Playing XI
Last Updated: Prasidh was preferred over Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh in India's playing XI for the ongoing first Test of the five-match series against England. Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar on Sunday (June 22) backed Indian team management's decision to include Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI for the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds. According to Manjrekar, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, Krishna is India's No. 2 seamer, and he is bowling better than Mohammed Siraj. He feels the Karnataka-based fast bowler is doing the best he can, and if he manages to get a couple of wickets, then it will help him build confidence, and he might get better. 'If you see Prasidh Krishna in this Test match as opposed to the Test he played for India earlier in South Africa, he's looked the best to me. Yesterday (Saturday, June 21), although he didn't quite get the wickets, he was still India's number two seamer. He was better than Mohammed Siraj, certainly more potent than Shardul Thakur. So, India made the right choice and went for him; this is Prasidh Krishna doing the best he can. With time, if he gets a couple of wickets and builds confidence, he might just get better and better. I will not be critical of Prasidh Krishna with the way he's bowled—he has done everything he possibly could to the best of his ability," Manjrekar said on 'Match Centre Live' after the first session on Day 3. After failing to take any wicket for India on Day 2 of the Leeds Test, Prasidh helped India get off to a flying start on Day 3, as on the first ball of his second over of the day, he dismissed Ollie Pope. The right-handed batter was caught behind by Rishabh Pant after making 106 runs from 137 balls with the help of 14 fours. Krishna, who last played a Test match for India against Australia in Sydney from January 3-5, 2025, managed to retain his place in the red-ball squad for the England tour by producing a super show for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. He played 15 matches for the Shubman Gill-led side in IPL this year and picked up 25 wickets, which was the most by any bowler. First Published: June 22, 2025, 19:46 IST

Eng fall just short of India's total
Leeds, June 22 (UNI) Jasprit Bumrah's incisive spell brought India back into the contest, but England managed to cut the deficit to just six runs at tea on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley on Sunday. England were bowled out for 465 in reply to India's 471, thanks largely to Harry Brook's valiant 99 and crucial contributions from the lower order. Brook's attacking knock, filled with audacious strokeplay and confidence, came to a heartbreaking end one short of a deserved century. After three reprieves — including a no-ball dismissal on 0 and two dropped catches on 46 and 80 — the Yorkshireman finally succumbed to a short ball from Prasidh Krishna, top-edging a pull to Shardul Thakur at long leg. Brook's innings featured elegant strokes including consecutive boundaries and a towering six off Mohammed Siraj, underlining his dominance before his dismissal. Jamie Smith earlier chipped in with a quick 40 but fell to another short-ball trap, caught via a relay effort between Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan. England's tail then wagged with purpose — Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse added 55 in just 7.2 overs, with Woakes reaching the milestone of 2,000 Test runs in style by launching Prasidh Krishna for two sixes. India, however, managed to close the innings before England could take a lead. Siraj broke the Woakes-Carse stand with a well-disguised yorker, and Bumrah cleaned up Woakes and No. 11 Josh Tongue to finish with figures of 5 for 83 — his third five-wicket haul in England. Despite their fielding lapses — including five dropped catches and a costly no-ball — India held onto a slender six-run lead, setting up a potentially thrilling second half of the match with a one-innings shootout effectively underway. Tea Score: India – 471 England – 465 all out (Brook 99, Pope 106, Bumrah 5/83) India lead by 6 runs UNI BDN SSP

Mohammed Siraj 'wanted to instil fear'; heated exchange backfires as Harry Brook makes him suffer for exchanging words
Mohammed Siraj was expected to shoulder Jasprit Bumrah's responsibility in the absence of Mohammed Shami, but the India pacer, in just his first outing on the tour of England, gave his bowling partner more headaches than relief. Siraj became India's fourth centurion of the Headingley Test match, conceding 2/122, allowing England to pummel 466 in their first innings. But more than the wayward bowling, it was Siraj's attitude and reluctance to learn from his mistakes that infuriated more. It's no secret that Siraj loves to be aggressive, rile the opposition batter up. When it comes off, he looks like a million dollars, but when it doesn't, he reiterates the thin line that exists between looking sexy and looking stupid. India's Mohammed Siraj, right, and England's Harry Brook, left, exchange words on Day 3 of first Test(AFP) Also Read: India vs England, 1st Test Day 3 Updates Unfortunately, on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley, it was the latter. Not only did Siraj bleed runs, but also looked like he was running out of ideas. Perhaps it was the same frustration that made him have a go at Harry Brook. In the 84th over, a ball from Siraj struck Brook on his pads. Siraj stood there looking at Brook before the batter finally retaliated with something. And that was all it took. Siraj muttered a few words back, and after a few back-and-forth words exchanged, Brook finally shushed Siraj away. That was all the England batter needed to get charged up, as after that incident, Brook went on to unleash a maddening carnage on the Indian bowlers. He looked set for a hundred, but after getting three reprieves, Brook hooked a ball from Prasidh Krishna right down Shardul Thakur's throat at fine leg to get out on 99. Siraj and Jaiswal breathed a sigh of relief, but that doesn't mask the overall picture – Siraj's aggression that needs to be controlled. Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who was on commentary, aptly summed up what's wrong with Siraj's aggression and why it backfires more often than it succeeds. Dinesh Karthik had a word with Mohammed Siraj during IPL 2025 "Interesting to see Siraj get a bit aggressive. Just have a look at him. Hits the elbow. Siraj had something to say. He likes to get aggressive. He was playing against RCB as well. He got aggressive. And then in one game, he came up against Phil Salt. The game was in Delhi. RCB were chasing and he thought it was the best way to get himself pumped it," Karthik said. "Siraj gave a few words back to Phil Salt and then Salt took off after that. After the match got over, I asked Siraj 'Why did you have to go after him? You were bowling so nicely. He said 'No, I just wanted to instil some fear'. I said but that's what he likes. He immediately turned and said 'You should have told me after before the game started. Not after I got hit'". Siraj's form with the ball has long been a concern for India. He was dropped from India's Champions Trophy squad, but after showing some spark in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, the pacer was picked in India's 18-member squad. Long way ahead, but Siraj should not mind fine-tuning a few things to get back to being a potent threat with the ball.
