Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu tribal areas to get major facelift
GUNTUR: A quiet transformation is unfolding in the tribal regions of Palnadu district, as 51 Chenchu tribal habitations are being developed under two major Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs initiatives: Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and Dharti Abhiyan—Janjatiya Grama Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA).
In Veldurthi, Macherla, Durgi, Karampudi, Bollapalli, and Rentachintala mandals, the district administration is charting plans to upgrade necessary infrastructure, including housing, roads, clean water supply, electricity, healthcare, Anganwadi centres and facilitating LPG connections to households under the PM-JANMAN scheme. The initiative spans 11 sectors and involves coordination among nine departments.
In the second phase, 31 additional tribal habitations outside PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) areas will be covered as well.
Parallelly, as many as 17 tribal habitations in Macherla, Durgi, Dachepalli, Achampet, and Bollapalli will gain access to 25 welfare schemes being implemented by 17 departments, under the DA-JGUA scheme.
Emphasising a people-first approach, Palnadu District Collector Arun Babu informed that a special outreach drive from June 15 to 30 will allow residents to voice their concerns and access services. Families have been asked to bring Aadhaar cards, bank and employment documents, health and gas cards, utility bills, forest land records and housing documents to the camps. 'These efforts are about restoring dignity, trust, and hope,' the Collector affirmed.

Most complaints from Gurgaon, human rights panel starts camp courts in city, gives nod for online filing
Gurgaon: The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) received 320 complaints from Gurgaon between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, accounting for the highest number of cases registered this year. The commission recieved a total of 2,442 complaints from across the state during this period. Faridabad, Hisar, Panchkula and Panipat followed Gurgaon with 258, 182, 173 and 113 complaints, respectively, while Charkhi Dadri reported the least number of complaints at 30. In the lower rung, Charkhi Dadri was followed by Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Jhajjar and Yamuna Nagar with 46, 49, 52 and 57 complaints, respectively. According to Puneet Arora, protocol, information and public relations officer of HHRC, the commission was committed to upholding justice and protecting human rights . "Between Nov 27, 2024, and May 31, 2025, a total of 3,086 cases were resolved, which included suo motu matters and 56 long-pending cases," he said. After a gap of 14 months, HHRC was reconstituted on Nov 27, 2024 under the chairpersonship of Justice Lalit Barta and with Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhatia as members. At the time, the commission had 3,117 pending cases and in the last six months, 1,438 fresh cases were registered. With this, the total number of pending cases with the commission went up to 4,555, out of which 3,086 cases were resolved till May this year. To ensure quicker access to justice for people, the commission holds regular camp courts and takes suo motu cognisance of matters, officials said. "HHRC remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard and promote human rights throughout Haryana. Now, citizens no longer need to travel to Chandigarh or Gurgaon to lodge complaints," said Arora. People can email their grievances free of cost to hhrc-hry@ A camp court in Gurgaon, held twice monthly, hears cases from six southern districts to ensure swift redress. Moreover, during the last year, the commission also inspected jails in Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Kaithal, assessing medical, hygiene, and vocational facilities. The officials concerned were told about the best practices to be followed and necessary reforms to be undertaken. During a visit to Tau Devi Lal Old Age Home in the city, Justice Batra reviewed living conditions and instructed officials to link eligible women with govt schemes like Aadhaar, Ayushman card, old age pension, disability pension, and family ID. At Swami Shraddhanand Orphanage, Karnal, Justice Batra interacted with children, emphasising the importance of education in shaping a strong society. He appreciated the vedic education being imparted to them at the orphanage and motivated children to strive for a brighter future.

India increasingly experiencing BJP's development model: PM Modi
Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the country has increasingly 'experienced the BJP's development model", pointing to the recent trajectories of Assam, Tripura and, most recently, Odisha. Addressing a rally marking the first anniversary of Odisha's BJP government, the Prime Minister contrasted the 'previous regime's model of governance—marked by delay, obstruction, derailment and corruption' with what he called a decade of 'good governance that makes people's lives easier". Highlighting the Eastern India as a case study, Modi said a decade ago Assam was mired in instability, separatism and violence. "Today the guns have fallen silent and Assam is out‑pacing many other states on several parameters,' he said. In Tripura ,the Prime Minister said after decades of Left rule, Tripura 'lagged on every development indicator,' from crumbling infrastructure to unresponsive administration. Now, Modi argued, it has become 'a symbol of peace and progress.' Coming to Odisha , he said, it had long wrestled with widespread corruption, red‑tapism and poor infrastructure, leaving many regions behind. 'Over the past year we have worked with full resolve to change that reality,' he declared. Modi credited the union‑and‑state 'double engine' approach for a spate of projects worth 'thousands of crores' inaugurated on Friday. This model, he said, is delivering twin benefits: He said lakhs of poor families in Odisha previously excluded from Ayushman Bharat now receive coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana and Odisha's Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana. Nearly three crore Odias are eligible for cash‑free treatment—inside and outside the state—and more than two lakh patients have already availed themselves of the scheme in hospitals across a dozen states. Under Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, over 23 lakh senior citizens (70+) in Odisha can claim up to Rs.5 lakh in free medical care, significantly easing household health costs. Modi said the farmers in Odisha now receive combined assistance under PM‑KISAN and the state's complementary schemes. The higher paddy procurement prices, promised last year, have already benefited lakhs of cultivators, Modi said. The Prime Minister lamented that tribal communities had been kept 'in poverty and deprivation for decades' and 'used for political gain' by earlier governments, which in turn fueled Naxalism. Govt raises enrolment limits for KPS, PM Shri schools in state
Mangaluru: With soaring demand for Karnataka Public Schools, PM Shri School, and Kannada-English bilingual schools run by the state govt, the department of school education and literacy decided to raise the maximum enrolment limits from this academic year. A circular dated June 19, 2025, stated that a maximum of 40 children per class in pre-primary sections (LKG and UKG), 50 in primary schools (grades 1 to 7), and 50 in high schools (grades 8 to 10) will be allowed. Previously, the maximum enrolment limit for pre-primary and primary classes was restricted to 30 students. Dakshina Kannada alone has nine KPS, 123 bilingual, and 17 PM-Shri schools. This decision was made in response to the growing demand for student enrolment. After thoroughly reviewing the proposal from the education department, the govt made this decision. Currently, there is an increase in student enrolment for bilingual classes in KPS, and there has been a continuous demand from the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), parents, and public representatives to increase the enrolment limit. The reason for the demand is the quality of education. Since the 2017-18 academic year, 308 KPS were gradually established in the state. These schools started bilingual medium classes from grade one, along with pre-primary classes and classes in Kannada/other mediums. Citing the success of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Schools in enrolling more students, the state govt stated in the order that it is their constitutional responsibility to provide quality education to more children by maximising available resources. The increased enrolment limit will be implemented in all schools from this academic year. The commissioner of the school education department must issue a circular regarding this and take steps to implement it according to the rules. The state govt also stressed that each pre-primary class or LKG/UKG must have a helper along with the teacher. The govt's order specifies that all available buildings and other resources on the school premises should be utilised to provide all possible opportunities for student enrolment and education. Officials from Dakshina Kannada welcomed the move, stating that there is significant demand for KPS, PM Shri Schools, and Kannada-English bilingual schools in the district. For instance, nine KPS alone recorded a total admission of 6,997 students. The schools have 208 classrooms available, staffed by 191 teachers. "It is an indicator of their popularity," said Govinda Madivala, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada.
