
Indian Army tests next-gen military tech in Pokhran, Agra, Joshimath to simulate future battlefield scenarios
The Indian Army is conducting large-scale capacity development demonstrations at key locations including Pokhran, Babina, and Joshimath, with dedicated air defence trials in Agra and Gopalpur.
These field trials aim to evaluate new-age battlefield technologies under near-combat conditions, including integrated electronic warfare (EW) simulations.
As part of its 'Decade of Transformation,' the Army is fast-tracking the absorption of cutting-edge defence platforms developed under the
Aatmanirbhar Bharat
initiative. These trials are seen as critical to strengthening India's technological edge and ensuring operational readiness for emerging military threats.

CDS Chauhan: Indigenous backbone crucial for networked warfare
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, speaking on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday, had emphasised India's self-reliant defence systems. Highlighting

, he said India successfully used indigenously developed systems like the Akash missile and built its own air defence networking infrastructure.
'We've integrated radars from multiple sources—both Indian and foreign—into a cohesive network across the country without relying on external vendors. This was crucial for our defence posture during recent operations,' Chauhan said.
He also noted the increasing convergence of warfare domains: 'Modern conflict demands integration of air, land, sea, cyber, and space. We're shifting from large, static platforms to distributed, deceptive and non-linear strategies.'
'India is ahead of Pakistan on all fronts': CDS Chauhan
In a candid assessment, CDS Chauhan contrasted India's strategic evolution with Pakistan's stagnation.
'When we gained independence, Pakistan was ahead in several metrics—GDP per capita, social indicators, economic performance. But today, India is ahead on all fronts—military capability, economic power, social harmony. That's a result of deliberate long-term strategy,' he said.
He further stated that while Pakistan likely sought Chinese or commercial satellite imagery during Operation Sindoor, there is no confirmation of real-time targeting support. 'India relied on its own satellite and electronic systems. Our response during the operation was swift and effective, with no further losses beyond the initial strike.'
Chauhan argued that India's preference for disengagement after decisive military actions is rooted in economic logic. 'Prolonged mobilisations are expensive. Our aim is decisive, short operations that avoid long-term disruptions to national development.'

. CDS Chauhan highlighted the role of Indian academia, startups, and private industry in pushing the innovation envelope.
'We produce the largest number of STEM graduates globally. Give them a defence problem, and you'll have hundreds working on it. That's an untapped advantage we must harness," said CDS Chauhan.

Although the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) initially announced the pilot's launch by June 15, it has now pushed the date further to June 25, following repeated glitches in system performance during test runs. As part of the pilot, the civic body installed new traffic signals and high-resolution cameras at 10 major junctions across the city to test the core features of the Rs 197-crore state-funded IITMS project. These junctions were equipped with modern signal systems, surveillance units, and electronic infrastructure meant to streamline traffic flow, monitor violations, and reduce congestion. "However, the early outcomes have been far from encouraging. The signals and surveillance network are not functioning reliably. After the hardware was installed, communication and coordination issues between the signals, control room, and field devices prevented the system from operating seamlessly," confirmed a senior NMC official privy to the development. NMC has formally communicated its dissatisfaction to the contractor responsible for the implementation. The pilot project, which should have been a showcase for smart traffic management, has instead become a point of concern for authorities already battling public criticism over rising violations and worsening traffic conditions. According to sources, the electric department has also raised concerns over technical integration and electricity supply stability, which are affecting signal performance. Meanwhile, messages and displays on the new signal poles have attracted public curiosity, but the system itself remains non-functional.

KSRTC's Davanagere division records uptick in digital payments
Davanagere: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) achieved notable success in digital payments, collecting Rs 10 crore in eight months through its Davanagere division. This achievement follows KSRTC's intensified promotion of UPI payments since Nov 2024. The organisation aims to collect Rs 1 crore daily through digital means, targeting 50% of all transactions. Passengers embraced the QR code payment system for bus fares, despite initial technical difficulties. The digital payment implementation resolved issues related to small change, enhancing the travel experience and reducing conflicts between passengers and conductors. The Davanagere division also introduced UPI payments via smart electronic ticket machines (ETMs) in Nov. Travellers now complete transactions using applications like PhonePe and Google Pay. Digital payments are more prevalent on long-distance routes with reliable network coverage.
