Liverpool could use two players to produce amazing transfer swap deal
Liverpool have already made big moves in the transfer market this summer and confirmed Florian Wirtz's arrival at Anfield on Friday but more major deals could await
Liverpool have dominated the summer transfer window thus far. They've completed the biggest deal so far in securing Florian Wirtz's signature and could pay up to £116million for the privilege.
And the Reds have also completed one of the most notable deals too by bringing in £10m for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The full-back moved to Real Madrid just weeks before his contract at Anfield was set to expire.
But, according to reports in Italy, Liverpool could yet be involved in another mega deal. Arne Slot's side are said to still be interested in a striker and that could provoke some big movement.
The Reds have been linked to moves for Newcastle star Alexander Isak and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike and neither player would come cheap. But some creativity could make a move for another striker possible.
Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web claim Liverpool have made a proposal to Napoli for Victor Osimhen. The Serie A champions are keen to offload the Nigeria international after failing to sell him last summer and the Merseyside club may have come up with a solution for everyone.
The Reds are reported to have offered up Darwin Nunez and Federcio Chiesa in exchange for the 26-year-old who starred on loan at Galatasaray in 2024/25. Osimhen has also been linked with Manchester United in addition and is said to have snubbed a move to Al-Hilal.
Darwin is expected to leave Anfield this summer as he goes in search of greater playing time, while Chiesa has been told by new Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso that he must play more frequently to be part of his plans.
'In these days, I called 35 players [who did not make the squad], I spoke to everyone,' Gattuso said earlier this week. 'Even Chiesa, whom I told to play consistently.
"There are players who have been out but who can lend a hand. The pitch speaks: if you do things well, the doors of the national team are open."
Swap deals rarely move as smoothly however with so many moving parts beyond simply agreeing a deal. And it has been suggested that Osimhen may in fact be waiting for United to make their own move.
Rio Ferdinand told his Rio Presents YouTube channel: 'No.9? They already know who I want. The comments know, the people know who I want, who I would go and get: Osimhen!
'It looks like he's turned down Al-Hilal… he must be waiting for Manchester United. I don't know if Manchester United are going to come. That's the problem.'

During an episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker ran through Liverpool's latest signings for the future. He said: "Liverpool have been very impressive so far, I think, with the signings that they've done. They've just completed Florian Wirtz for £116million, so it's a lot of dough for Bayer Leverkeusen. But he's a wonderfully talented player." Rather prematurely, he then included Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in the list, despite a transfer not yet being completed. Lineker continued: "Kerkez, Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for around £40million, they join Jeremie Frimpong who signed a couple of weeks ago. All three are worth just under £200million." The conversation moved on to where Wirtz would fit into Liverpool's front line, where Shearer chimed in: "I think he'll be floating between the two. I think you'll have obviously Salah on one side and whoever on the other side, and it'll be him that'll be the 10, the forward or whatever, and they'll just sort of rotate and do what they have to do. I think that's where he'll play." Lineker then spotted an opportunity to tease the Newcastle icon about Isak potentially swapping black-and-white for red this summer, as he quipped: "And Isak as the nine? Right?" The 54-year-old made an X-rated gesture, putting up his middle finger on both hands while grinning, as he emphatically replied: "No chance!" Shearer is likely not ready or willing to part with Isak's services at his beloved Newcastle United, as the Swede helped the side to their first major trophy since 1955 – beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final – and then helped them qualify for the Champions League this upcoming season. Isak contributed 27 goals and six assists in 42 appearances for Newcastle in the 2024/25 season, and is regarded as a key part of Howe's squad. However, Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record once this season with Wirtz, and could be looking to flex that financial muscle in order to continue their recent success in the Premier League. Liverpool's next signing accidentally 'confirmed' after Florian Wirtz's arrival
Liverpool have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window so far, and their next expected signing was seemingly confirmed rather prematurely by Gary Lineker on his podcast Gary Lineker went a little early in claiming Liverpool have already completed the signing of Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, despite the club not making any announcements as yet. The Hungarian defender looks all set for a move to Anfield. Almost one year on from only completing the signing of Federico Chiesa in his first transfer window, Arne Slot has overseen a spectacular spending spree so far in June. Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has since been followed to Merseyside by Florian Wirtz in a British record deal worth up to £116m. The German international's arrival at Liverpool was officially confirmed on Friday evening by the club after weeks of negotiations. And it has been made clear that Kerkez is edging towards Liverpool too, in a deal which will be worth around £40m. The left-back is expected to undergo a medical next week. However, Lineker seemingly jumped the gun while speaking on his podcast in regard to the state of Kerkez's move. On Sunday's episode of The Rest is Football, Lineker said: "Liverpool have been impressive so far with the signings they have done. "They have just completed Florian Wirtz for £116m, that's a lot of dough, from Bayer Leverkusen, but he's a wonderfully talented player. "Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for around £40m. While the odds would suggest that Kerkez's move to Liverpool is as good as done, many transfers in the past have collapsed in the final stages. In fact, if Kerkez's move to Anfield was to fall through with a medical still to come, it would not be the first time this has happened to the Reds. In the summer of 2018, Liverpool fans were left crestfallen when the £58.5m arrival of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir collapsed at the last minute. A fee had been agreed for the Frenchman and the Merseysiders had even agreed personal terms with the midfielder, who was being viewed as the long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho. However, a knee issue spotted in the medical resulted in the move falling through. That has been disputed, though, as Fekir has previously spoken about the strange saga, claiming he passed his medical and that he did not understand why the move could not be completed. Liverpool supporters will certainly be hoping Lineker's confident statement has not jinxed a move for Kerkez, who contributed two goals and six assists in 38 Premier League appearances from left-back last season. His arrival would take Liverpool's spending north of the £200m mark if goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is included in this year's figures, which is said to be the case despite a deal being agreed with Valencia last summer. It's also believed the Reds are not near to being finished with their activity in the summer transfer window. They have also been linked with huge moves for Crystal Palace central defender Marc Guehi and Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak. Reports from The Telegraph claim Slot's side would love to sign the latter, who contributed 23 Premier League goals and six assists in 34 appearances last season.
