MSU target, 3-star DL Gavin Neil picks up offer from Boston College
A Michigan State defensive lineman target is gaining some traction on the recruiting trail, with a power four school extending him an offer this week.
Gavin Neil of Chicago Heights, Ill. announced on Tuesday that he's received an offer from Boston College. Neil posted on his social media X account to share the notable offer from the Eagles.
Neil is a three-star defensive lineman in the 2026 class, and holds a recruiting rating of 86 on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 140 defensive lineman and No. 34 player from Illinois in the class.
Michigan State and Boston College are the only two power four conference schools to offer Neil at this point in his recruitment, according to 247Sports. He holds other offers from smaller schools such as Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Marshall, Wyoming, Air Force, Army and Northern Illinois.
Neil is set to take an official visit to Michigan State on June 20, and is currently projected to end up a Spartan via 247Sports' crystal ball predictions. So this latest offer from Boston College could threaten the Spartans' chances of landing his commitment later this month. This is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on as we progress through the next few weeks.

Three Spartans listed in the field for the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic
Starting on Thursday, the PGA Tour is returning to Detroit, for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club. This will be the seventh edition of the tournament in Detroit, the PGA Tour's return to Michigan. For the event coming to Detroit, the Spartans are going to be nicely represented, with there being a trio of players from the Michigan State golf program set to play in the event. Ryan Brehm, a long time PGA Tour veteran, and a 2008 graduate of Michigan State that helped lead MSU to three Big Ten Championships, will be the Spartans headliner in the event. The one-time PGA Tour winner, and Mt. Pleasant native, will look to tally his second win while in Detroit. James Piot will also make his return to the PGA Tour. The 2021 US Amateur Champion and a 2021 MSU graduate, Piot played in the Masters Tournament and the US Open with his amateur status after winning the 2021 US Am. After turning pro, he played on the LIV Golf Tour for a year. He has joined the field as an unrestricted sponsors exemption. Ashton McCulloch is the final Spartan in the field. A 2025 graduate, McCulloch still has his amateur status, and will be making his fourth start on the PGA Tour. It is expected that he will likely turn pro following this event, where he got in with a sponsors exemption. Thank you Coach Brown and everyone on the Syracuse coaching staff for the overwhelming support and truly believing in me thought this process! A Michigan State cornerback target in the 2026 class reopened his recruitment on Monday morning. Jaxson Gates of Le Verne, Calif. announced on Monday that he is decommitting from Syracuse and will reopen his recruitment. Gates had been committed to Syracuse since last November, but had been taking official visits during the summer and exploring other options. Gates is a three-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 88 on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 48 cornerback and No. 50 player from California in 247Sports' rankings for the 2026 class. Gates took an official visit to Michigan State a few weeks ago, and has also visited Utah and BYU in June. His most recent official visit was with the BYU Cougars this past weekend, so that could be telling on where his mind is at in the recruiting process and where he may be committing to next. How does Auburn's offensive line stack up with the best in the nation?
How does the former Alabama quarterback compare Auburn's offensive line to the best in the nation? Auburn's offensive line returns plenty of experienced pieces and will be viewed as a strength this season. The likes of Connor Lew, Jeremiah Wright, Dillon Wade, and Izavion Miller bring 2,798 snaps of experience to the Tigers' offensive line from last year, with each possessing an efficiency rating of 96.1 or higher. It is no wonder that Auburn's offensive line is viewed as one of the best in the nation. ESPN analyst and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy recently included Auburn in his top-10 offensive line rankings, placing the Tigers' experienced unit at No. 8 above Clemson and Oregon, and one spot below Penn State. "A lot of this has to do with the fact that a lot of guys are back," McElroy said during a recent episode of Always College Football, where he and former Auburn lineman Cole Cubelic broke down the nation's best offensive line units. "I thought last year's group collectively at season's end was playing really good football." Lew, Wade, and Wright anchored the offensive line last season. However, Wade played over 100 snaps at three different positions last season before setting up shop as the Tigers' starting left tackle for the final six games of the season. McElroy feels that is when Auburn's line began to gel. "I think Dillon Wade and Connor Lew once those guys kind of settled into the spots they ended up settling in at, Lew at center in particular, that was a huge difference maker," McElroy said. "They finally figured out that left tackle was a huge spot throughout the first six, seven, eight games last year. They finally get one guy out, put another guy in, and everything seems to calm down." Mixing the returners, plus Xavier Chaplin and Mason Murphy from the transfer portal, will put Auburn into a great position to become one of the top units in the nation, and McElroy believes that their ceiling is higher heading into the season. With Auburn also boasting one of the nation's best wide receiver rooms and a new quarterback in Jackson Arnold, offensive line play will be crucial this season, and Auburn's room will be up for the challenge.
