King Charles Shares Surprising Life Advice During Sweet Moment with 101-Year-Old Veteran

King Charles attended the Ceremony of the Keys at Lancaster Castle, where he gave a 101-year-old veteran some unexpected advice
The outing comes amid the monarch's ongoing cancer treatment
Queen Elizabeth also took part in the Ceremony of the Keys in 2015, and the event dates back to 1851, when it began with Queen VictoriaKing Charles shared a sweet moment with a 101-year-old centenarian during his latest outing.
The royal, 76, attended the Ceremony of the Keys at Lancaster Castle on Monday, June 9, where he greeted visitors and dropped a bit of advice while chatting with a D-Day veteran.
The King previously met Richard Brock while visiting Normandy last year, and when he saw him again on Monday, he noted how good 101-year-old Brock looked, The Daily Mail reports.
The King told Brock, "You are fantastic," after asking his age, then quipped, "Keep drinking the whiskey."
Brock's son Tony said, "He mentioned a nip of whiskey and said to keep taking it," per The Daily Mail.
The outing comes as King Charles continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, a diagnosis that was shared with the public last year. Despite the health challenge, the King has kept a steady pace of in-person engagements and will lead the royal family at Trooping the Colour on June 14.
In April, the King shared another candid — and humorous — moment while visiting Italy. After planting an oak tree at Villa Wolkonsky in Rome, he joked, "Well I do hope that I shall live long enough to see a little bit of growth in the tree."
After arriving at Lancaster Castle for his first official visit as monarch, the King — who is also the Duke of Lancaster — participated in a Ceremony of Keys, during which he was given the keys to the castle.
The tradition first began in 1851 with Queen Victoria. The King's late mother, Queen Elizabeth, also participated in the ceremony in 2015.
Inside the grounds of Lancaster Castle, the King met with local business owners who sell cheese, wool yarns and furniture, and spoke with them about their products, including Gillian Hale of Butlers' Farmhouse Cheeses.
The Daily Mail reports that the King smelled some of Hale's cheeses but did not taste them. He did, however, tell her that he especially loves sheep's cheese, which he prefers to eat with a digestive biscuit.
Hale said she planned to pass some of her products along to the King after the Lancaster Castle event.
"We're going to send some to him later in a goody bag," she said. "He was so gracious."
At a reception after the ceremony, the King met with members of St. John's Hospice, staff from the Lancaster Literature Festival and employees from the organization Escape 2 Make, which hosts creative workshops for young people.

It's no secret that the King enjoys his whiskey — he even has his own line. King Charles released a special version of his Highgrove Royal Gardens whiskey in honor of his 75th birthday in November 2023.
He also recently took a trip to Northern Ireland with Queen Camilla, where the pair took shots of whiskey at a bar while taking part in a tasting in March. In a video from the visit shared to X by royal reporter Rebecca English, the King and Queen toasted before knocking back the whiskey. They both fell silent after the shot, which earned plenty of laughter from onlookers at the bar.

Prince of Wales celebrates 43rd birthday with new puppy picture

The Prince of Wales has marked his 43rd birthday in a picture with his dog Orla and three of her puppies. The photograph, taken by the Princess of Wales, was shared by Kensington Palace on William's birthday on Saturday, with the caption: 'Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!' One of the chocolate cocker spaniel puppies is being stroked by the Prince of Wales while their mother Orla is behind him. The Prince and Princess of Wales have had Orla since 2020, after their first dog together Lupo, also a cocker spaniel – which they were given as a wedding present from Kate's brother James Middleton – died unexpectedly. Orla gave birth to four puppies last month and the photograph was taken in Windsor on a sunny day earlier in June. It appears to be a quieter birthday for the Prince of Wales than last year, when he took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Taylor Swift at Wembley stadium. Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies! 🐾 — The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) June 21, 2025 William had faced a challenging 12 months in the lead-up to turning 42, with both Kate and his father the King diagnosed with cancer. In the week of his birthday this year, the Prince of Wales joined the King and Queen at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. His wife missed the event for the second successive year and was said to have been disappointed not to join her family at the famous sporting and social event in Berkshire. The King and Queen were back at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday and watched the races from the royal box, while Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank were spotted in the parade ring. On Thursday, the Prince of Wales was in Norwich with Earthshot Prize council member Cate Blanchett to see the hi-tech work of one of the 2023 prize finalists. The pair donned lab coats to see how Colorifix, an eco-friendly textile dye company, makes its products. William admitted he needed a 'layman's version' of the scientific explanations and later apologised to staff for 'all the stupid questions'.

Prince William's Hottest Photos Over the Years

For anyone who has been following the royal family for decades, Prince William has grown up before the public's eyes. His tiny debut as the second in line to the throne began on the steps of St. Mary's Hospital in London on June 21, 1982, with Princess Diana proudly (but shyly) sharing her firstborn child with the world as Prince Charles adoringly looked on. The new dad quipped to the press at the time, 'He has the good fortune not to look like me,' per People. Over the years, the Duke of Cambridge became a teen heartthrob and many young adults rushed to get their applications in at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland when they heard he would be attending. Who wouldn't want the opportunity to date a prince? But of course, he met his match in Kate Middleton, who won his heart over pretty quickly — even if they started as just friends. Previously, a study was conducted, per Pubity, that claimed William was 'declared the sexiest man alive,' specifically named the 'sexiest bald man of the year.' In honor of that, let's take a look back at all of his hottest moments as a royal — from a student to a father. He's a military man, an avid sports enthusiast, and he knows how to charm women of all ages during official visits. And as he reminded us all with his bicep-flashing vaccine photo earlier this year, the man is a verified hunk. The Duke of Cambridge has come into his own as a senior royal and he's now embracing the role that has been laid out for him since the moment he was born. Check out these sexy snaps from his last year at Eton College to the family man he is today, and let your thirst for the elder royal brother wash over you. Princess Kate posts sweet, puppy-filled birthday message for Prince William: See photo

Princess Kate is celebrating Prince William's 43rd birthday. The Princess of Wales, also 43, took to the family's Instagram account on Saturday, June 21 to celebrate her husband — who is first in line to the British throne — with a sweet, celebratory post filled with puppies. "Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies! 🐾" Kate said in the caption, signing the message from the pair's 11-year-old son Prince George, Princess Charlotte, 10, and youngest son Prince Louis, 7. In the snap, William was wearing a green button-up shirt and casual blue jeans. Kate's post came after she missed an expected June 18 appearance at Royal Ascot, in what would have been her return to the horse-racing event after she battled cancer. Prince William's kids share cute 'before and after' photos for Father's Day The message arrived just a week after Trooping the Colour, the royal birthday celebration for Charles. William, Kate and their children all attended, with Kate and Charlotte both dressed in aqua. The birthday note comes after Kate shared a Father's Day message for William from the couple's three children on June 15. The post also included two photos of William with George, Charlotte and Louis. The first picture showed the four standing and posing together, casually coordinated in jeans and sweaters, while the second showed them all lying on the ground and laughing. "Happy Father's Day, Papa (before and after!) We love you!" the caption read. The Instagram post was also signed "G, C & L." Contributing: Brendan Morrow
