BJP's Event To Mark 50 Years Of Emergency: Amit Shah, Heroes Who Fought Against Indira To Attend

The Centre, meanwhile, has scheduled events which will last a year. With the Congress-led Opposition often accusing the Modi government of causing 'death of democracy" and imposing 'undeclared emergency", the BJP plans to use the occasion to strike back. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in India, BJP's think tank Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) has organised a mega event at Delhi's Prime Minister Museum and Library. This strictly by-invitation event will have a huge exhibition, with a series of stands chronicling the Emergency era and the fight against it and the formation of the first non-Congress government of Morarji Desai, News18 has learnt. 'Every prominent opposition leader of the time from all political spectrums who fought against the Emergency will be prominently displayed in the exhibition. After all, everyone fought it together," said a source privy to the developments. From Gujarat Navnirman agitation to Jayaprakash Narayan's movement — the exhibition is likely to feature all key moments that shaped India spanning from 1975 to 1977, which was marked by suspension of civil liberties, censorship of the press, and widespread persecution of political opponents. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest who will deliver the keynote address of the evening. Shah will speak for around 45 minutes, where he is expected to lash out at the Congress in his signature style. Invites are now being sent out. 'This eve of reflection will revisit the suppression of civil liberties, censorship of the press, and imprisonment of political voices during the Emergency and will reaffirm our enduring commitment to democratic values and constitutional freedoms," reads the invite that News18 has seen. Binay Kumar Singh, Director of SPMRF, wants to set the tone a night before the D-Day when the BJP's youth and the whole government apparatus goes into making it a big success. The Centre has already instructed all states and Union Territories to undertake a year-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency's imposition as 'Constitution Murder Day' with a Mashal yatra launched from Delhi on June 25, which will end at Kartavya Path on March 21, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.

Letters: It was heartwarming to see the Army celebrated at the parade in Washington
It was with patriotic pride that I watched the 250th anniversary parade for the Army. As a veteran, I can attest to the significant contributions our fighting Americans have made to our country. My family members have served in the military since our country's founding. Their sacrifices, like the sacrifices of many other soldiers, have produced the greatest country in the history of the world. Millions of people today owe their freedom to the U.S. military. It was heartwarming to see the people in attendance supporting our troops and celebrating our Army's history. Well done to the Army and all the other branches of service that ensure our freedom! I am proud of my service to the United States. I stand alongside our active-duty troops to support their hard for me to understand how the Tribune can splash a large picture of a demonstration by un-American protesters on the front page of the paper and yet relegate the story about the Army parade to Page 7 of Section 2. If it wasn't for the Army and the other branches, the Tribune would be publishing its paper in German. There has been no mention of the 'bone spurs' diagnosis that kept Trump out of military service and exempted him from serving in Vietnam. And Trump called those killed at Normandy 'losers' and 'suckers'! Good journalists should include these items when reporting on Trump's dealings with the military. He will never be supported by veterans who know these truths and facts. He was and is a bone-spur draft-dodging grifter.I am an Army veteran (Vietnam, 1968-69), and I am appalled at the inexcusable behavior of soldiers of the 82nd Airborne last week who loudly jeered the media and former President Joe Biden at the urging of President Donald Trump. They seemed to forget that Biden was their commander in chief in January. More troubling was the silence of sergeants, officers and other command personnel during and after the outrageous behavior of the soldiers in attendance. I am certain that there would have been hell to pay from my first sergeant and my company commander, a West Point graduate, had the men in my company — Echo Company — behaved so badly at a military assembly. My father-in-law served in the 82nd Airborne in World War II, trained at Fort Bragg and helped fly a glider plane behind enemy lines on D-Day. The behavior last week is an affront to the memory and service of the men of the 82nd who served bravely in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Just really disgusts me when I see President Donald Trump speaking at West Point or reviewing troops at his birthday parade. Here's a guy who used his father's connections to avoid military service due to 'bone spurs' in his heel but can golf 100-plus rounds of golf each year. I'm all for cutting government spending in a responsible way, unlike the Department of Government Efficiency's methods, and reducing the deficit, but his 'Big Bloated Bill' will do neither. Republicans used to be the party of fiscal responsibility, but the last federal surplus was under Bill Clinton. After 9/11, George W. Bush ran $1 trillion deficits, and Barack Obama followed suit. Trump's first term increased the national debt by nearly $2 trillion, then Biden and Trump's second term will have exceeded that mark. Tax cuts and supply side economics have not worked in the past. Hoping that they will in the future is wishful thinking. If our members of Congress ran their personal finances the way they run the government's, they'd all be on welfare. I saw a recent interview on PBS with U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin who is appalled at the size of the national debt and the lack of concern shown by his cronies. This shows that there are at least a few sane people in government who are willing to take an unpopular stance and buck the president to save the country. There is a huge difference between a devout Christian nationalist, which Boelter is, and a devout Christian — those who follow the way of Jesus. I seen death, sepsis, meningitis, epiglottitis, birth defects, encephalitis, seizure disorders, hearing loss and brain damage from what are now vaccine-preventable illnesses. You, parents, still have the power to keep our children safe. that your insurance companies cover these safe and effective vaccines. that your schools demand that a safe and reasonable vaccine schedule is followed. You, parents, hold the power at the ballot box. Make your voices heard! I pray that the current pediatric trainees do not have to see what I have seen to effect change. Children's lives are at to Medicaid will come at a cost — the cost is in loss of life for individuals living with cancer. There is simply no way that cutting $793 billion from Medicaid will make the program stronger. Cuts of that magnitude will cut patients off from their health care, harm hospitals and clinics, and weaken state economies. The truth is that almost all the fraud, waste and abuse in the health care system comes from the billing and payment processes and skyrocketing prices, not from people who rely on Medicaid for essential care. As a breast cancer survivor, I know the importance of access to quality health care. In Illinois, over 3 million residents rely on Medicaid for health care coverage, and doctors rely on it to be paid for their services. Lawmakers might not know that the folks who rely on the program are mostly those who work jobs that don't provide benefits, or those who work seasonal jobs. These are huge parts of our economy. These people work hard and are in no way asking for handouts, but also often cannot afford the high prices of private insurance, which will be driven up further by cuts. As a cancer survivor, I urge U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth to stand up to protect the health and lives of all Illinoisans.

Decision on proposed Waikato medical school near: Reti

At Tuesday's parliamentary tertiary education committee, Green MP Francisco Hernandez asked Universities Minister Dr Shane Reti about the status of the project. Dr Reti said the cost-benefit analysis for the project had been completed and the government would be making a decision in a matter of weeks. The Waikato medical school proposal has proved controversial — the existing medical schools at Otago and Auckland universities argue they can deliver more medical school students more cheaply and efficiently. National campaigned on the third medical school at the 2023 election, but Act New Zealand made it part of its coalition agreement it would not like the project to go ahead without a detailed cost-benefit analysis. Documentation from Treasury, the Tertiary Education Commission and Ministry of Education have all expressed concern about the cost of the project, the logistical hurdles in establishing it and the speed at which the government hoped to complete it. Mr Hernandez said he was disappointed it appeared to still be a going concern. "It was disappointing to find out at [Tuesday's] select committee hearings that the Waikato medical school project is still continuing to lumber on between life and death. "Every moment of delay is another burden at our health system which is already at crisis point. The government must do the right thing and embrace the Green Budget which would invest in funding more places at Otago and Auckland, so that everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand can get the healthcare they need — sooner and for cheaper than the Waikato medical school proposal."

King Charles III: ‘Operation Menai Bridge' death rehearsals underway as monarch fights cancer battle
In the most concerning sign yet that King Charles may be fighting a losing cancer battle, troops of Buckingham Palace staff and advisers have begun rehearsing preparations for his death in an operation codenamed 'Menai Bridge'. King Charles III, like his mother Queen Elizabeth, who reigned for 70 years, has no intention of standing down as ruling monarch amid his health concerns and has stated he intends to remain on the throne until he dies. But Operation Menai Bridge, which will be enacted in the hours, days and weeks following the King's death, is under constant review, with palace insiders saying there have already been rehearsals in case the 76-year-old dies suddenly. Multiple bodies associated with the monarchy and UK government have reportedly been involved in developing the plans, much like Operation London Bridge, which was triggered following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. Operation London Bridge was present for decades ahead of QEII's death, and the planning and lessons learned have been passed on as the military-style operation pre-empting King Charles' death ramps up. 'Even the king said in his acceptance that he will take this role for as long as life allows him to ... it's got to be in the back of your mind, and from the police, we've got to start planning again for the future.' Royal Protection Officer Simon Morgan, 52, who served in the Queen's security detail, told Radaronline . Decision-making in the moments after King Charles' passing is crucial, with certain protocols dictating the timeline of events. 'These are rehearsals no one wants to do, but everyone has to be ready. Every detail is planned – from who calls whom to how flags are lowered,' an insider said. Crucially, Prince William will immediately ascend to take his father's role as King, with a coronation to follow as soon as preparations can be finalised following the King's state burial. Radaronline says the king's private secretary will be the first to notify the British PM and the Privy Council Office. From there, a series of calls – known as the 'call cascade' – will inform cabinet secretaries, ministers, and senior civil servants. Once the cascade is complete, flags across Whitehall will be lowered to half-mast and a statement will be issued by Buckingham Palace. As with Queen Elizabeth's death, the day Charles dies will be referred to as D-Day, followed by D+1, D+2 and so on. Prince William, 42, will then be referred to as King, and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, 43, will become Queen. Charles' wife Camilla, 77, who currently holds the title Queen Consort, will assume the role of Queen Dowager – a tradition that echoes historic royal customs. The Menai Bridge codename is derived from a suspension bridge connecting the island of Anglesey to mainland Wales, which is an acknowledgement of King Charles's lengthy stint as the Prince of Wales. The name follows a royal tradition of using bridge-related codenames for death plans. The practice of using bridge-related codenames for royal deaths has been used for decades to avoid the information being leaked. Aides once relied on switchboard operators, and the codenames were used to ensure the information was protected as it passed between sources.
