Cowboys Rival Assesses Pickens 'Risks and Concerns' originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The longer the offseason goes, the more people we are seeing jump onto the George Pickens bandwagon after his trade to the Dallas Cowboys.

Initially seen as a big "risk" with his fiery on-field antics, coupled with some reported off-field issues regarding team meetings, Pickens has been a model citizen at The Star during OTAs and minicamp.
Granted, we haven't seen Pickens go through adversity on the field yet – that will come, but right now, there is a big shift in what people think Pickens can do in 2025.
For one AFC personnel man, Pickens might have landed in the exact right spot.
"He'll be a big piece there," the personnel man said via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "When he's covered, he's really open. I know the concerns are there, but I think having an already established passing game with veterans to help him along, and the fact he's in a contract year, will help keep him in line. If you can tap into what he can do fully, his major ability will shine through."

We have already seen Pickens' ability shine through at The Star, with his connection with Dak Prescott in good order, not to mention how he has attacked learning Brian Schottenheimer's scheme.

Training camp will provide a good checkpoint to re-evaluate Pickens, because as we know, once the pads come on and it gets a bit tense, that's where we will see if Pickens can demonstrate he has matured.
Still, many are coming around to what Pickens can do for Schottenheimer's offense, and if he can stay on the straight and narrow, along with CeeDee Lamb, Dallas' newest receiver might have many people eating humble pie come season's end.

Ohio State Lands Extremely Early Commitment From Playmaker

Ohio State Lands Extremely Early Commitment From Playmaker originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's too early for recruiting websites to have ranked the top players in the 2028 class. But that didn't stop the Ohio State Buckeyes from landing a running back for that cycle. Advertisement Buckeye Huddle's Marc Givler reported Friday that 2028 running back Elijah Hall committed to Ohio State. "The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect was one of the stars of this week's round of one-day camps at Ohio State and Hall wasted little time in picking the Buckeyes coming out of his visit," wrote Givler. "Hall chose the Buckeyes over early offers from Florida State, Miami (FL), and others." According to 247Sports, Hall is just the second 2028 prospect to give a college football program a verbal commitment. In January, the signal-caller committed to the Boston College Eagles. Advertisement Neither prospect has a star rating. 247Sports' ranking system currently only extends through 2027. On3's Mick Walker, who attended the Buckeyes' summer camp, called Hall the "most physically imposing running back" Ohio State hosted this past week. "He is an incredibly well built for a soon-to-be high school sophomore. He also looked good going through drills but still received plenty of feedback from the aforementioned Locklyn about what to work on. In short, the 6-foot, 200-pound Hall is someone Buckeye fans should familiarize themselves with in 2028," wrote Walker. Hall's commitment comes as the Buckeyes are still trying to land an elite running back in the 2026 class. 49ers Running Back Room Clears Top 15 in Recent Rankings

49ers Running Back Room Clears Top 15 in Recent Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco 49ers are hoping for a resurgent season in 2025 from running back Christian McCaffrey. What the 49ers need is the 2023 version of McCaffrey, who led the league with 1,459 rushing yards and added 14 rushing touchdowns. He caught 67 passes for 564 yards with another seven touchdown catches. Advertisement Expectations are sometimes different from reality, especially when McCaffrey is recovering from two separate injuries that sidelined him for 13 games last season. But regardless of McCaffrey's recent injury history, the San Francisco backfield is ranked No. 12 in ProFootballFocus' recent grades. "The 49ers are one of the hardest teams to project for this list, given Christian McCaffrey's recent injury history," wrote PFF's Dalton Wasserman. "Across 2022 and 2023, he was the NFL's highest-graded running back. His injuries in 2024 limited him to just 167 snaps and a 71.3 PFF overall grade. McCaffrey is supremely talented, but he enters his age-29 season with more questions than ever. "Isaac Guerendo did a decent job in spot duty last season, earning a 67.2 PFF rushing grade. The team also added fifth-round rookie Jordan James, who recorded an elite 95.7 PFF rushing grade over the past two seasons at Oregon." Advertisement Don't expect McCaffrey to be reintroduced to the offense slowly; however, that is the custom sometimes when players return from injury. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak thinks McCaffrey will be fine if the team is smart with his usage. "You're always cognizant of the reps you're putting on guys, especially in practice, when we do that with Christian all the time, we monitor his reps, and you have to be smart when you're in games," Kubiak continued. "You have to be cognizant of how much they're out there. 49ers 2nd-Round Rookie DT Compared to Hall of Famer

49ers 2nd-Round Rookie DT Compared to Hall of Famer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Perhaps the greatest compliment a San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle can draw is a comparison to Hall of Famer Bryant Young. Advertisement Young is a Super Bowl champion, four-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro for the 49ers who was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022. He is the epitome of consistency at the position with 627 tackles, 89.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries across 208 career games. At least one analyst sees a little of Young in San Francisco's second-round pick this year, Alfred Collins. "Given the dominance of San Francisco's defensive line over the past quarter-century, it might surprise you to learn that the 49ers haven't produced a defensive tackle with more than one Pro Bowl to their credit since Young was honored after the 2001 and 2002 campaigns," writes Fox Sports' Rob Rang. Advertisement "Young was big and powerful, but also surprisingly agile and a very instinctive defender. Collins is still figuring things out, but his physical traits are like something generated on AI. If the 49ers hit on him, they truly will have struck gold." Collins is 6-6 and 332 pounds and will give the 49ers some much-needed size in the middle of the defensive line. His college team in Austin, Texas, allowed just 2.9 yards per carry the past two seasons with Collins filling up the middle of the Longhorns' defensive line. There's a good chance Collins can start as a rookie, too, although there will be some competition.
