Airports can seem over the top with their food and beverage prices — but according to travel experts at eShores, sometimes splurging will save you money in the long run.
The experts claimed that travelers are wasting their money on 'unnecessary' add-ons for flights, such as early boarding and seat selection, when they should be allocating their money elsewhere.
Instead of shelling out money on these frivolous options, the specialists advise spending on extras that will enhance the overall travel experience.
Here are the expert-backed add-ons that are worth the splurge and the ones that should be avoided.
The experts told the Daily Mail that lounge passes are worth the extra money.
The eShore team claimed that the pricey cost of airport lounge access might end up being less money travelers would eventually spend on meals and drinks at the terminal.
An airport meal can range from around $20 to $50, while access to a lounge can cost approximately $40 to $60 per person and includes so much more.
Another pricey add-on worth looking into is fast-track security, which allows passengers to get their belongings checked in a separate private lane with a reduced wait time.
Investing in a program like TSA Pre-Check or CLEAR, or sometimes even third-party services, will help passengers get to their lounge or gate faster.
Day trip excursions are also worth the money, according to experts. Rather than paying for separate flights and accommodations while traveling, globetrotters can save a buck by booking an organized day trip.
An excursion can offer benefits such as visiting multiple destinations at a cheaper price, which can also include meals and transport.
While some perks are worth the money — many others aren't, such as early boarding.
The eShore experts claim that paying extra for early boarding is 'rarely' an advantage, especially if a traveler already has an assigned seat.
'Early boarding doesn't guarantee faster departure times; you'll still disembark in the same order,' the experts told the outlet.
'Unless you have mobility needs or are travelling with very young children, it's money better spent on your actual holiday.'
Some budget airlines charge passengers to choose their seats on a plane.
But the experts claim this isn't worth the money — especially for short flights.
'For short-haul flights under two hours, for many people, being separated isn't the end of the world (and might even mean a bit of quiet time),' they explained.
'Unless you're flying with young children or sitting with your travel companion is a must, this is an easy cost to skip.'
Unless you're going on a longer trip, paying for checked luggage might be a waste of money.
The experts advise travelers going on a weekend getaway or trips that are just a few days long to skip checking a bag and instead utilize carry-ons.
'With smart packing techniques (think compression cubes and versatile outfits), everything you need for a long weekend or week-long city break can easily fit in hand luggage.'

It described it as "one of the wildest beaches on the south coast, with superb views of the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs". This beach has a 4.7/5 rating on Tripadvisor from more than 200 reviews, with one saying: "The cliffs are blindingly white and the beach and surrounding countryside is so pretty". Also making the list was West Wittering beach. This is a hugely popular spot for locals and travellers alike, with CNT saying it "draws a crowd from all over the south coast". It added: "Low tide brings the promise of shallow lagoons to paddle in and creates a blank canvas for sand-castles. "There's a grassy patch ideal for picnics behind the beach huts that fringe the beach." West Wittering is rated 4.1/5 on Tripadvisor, but has received more than 1,400 reviews, proving its popularity. One reviewer said: "Must be one of the best beaches in the south east. Amazing large sandy beach, very dog friendly in the winter months." The final beach making the list was Seven Sisters, which is home to a number of beaches, including Cuckmere Haven, as mentioned previously. Seven Sisters is known for its tough walking routes, providing some of the best views along the coast of the famous white chalk cliffs. There is a beach in front of the cliffs to explore, which is another great option for hikers or day-trippers looking for somewhere to cool off. On Tripadvisor, there are a number of other beaches in Sussex that are also highly rated. In East Sussex, these include Camber Sands, Brighton, Bexhill, Winchelsea and Pevensey Bay. In West Sussex, some of the best beaches include Pagham, Littlehampton, Worthing and Lancing. Camber Sands is regularly recognised as one of, if not the best, beach in Sussex. Restoration rejuvenates iconic Gaudi house in Barcelona
Barcelona's UNESCO-listed Casa Batllo, a modernist architectural masterpiece by Sagrada Familia designer Antoni Gaudi, unveiled a multimillion-euro restoration Thursday that brings its rear facade and courtyard back to life. Previous refurbishments, changes of owner and the turbulent period marked by Spain's 1936-1939 civil war had taken their toll on the unique building completed in 1906. A team of architects, historians and artisans spent more than a year repairing the bright mosaics and restoring the original cream-coloured hue to the blackened curvy balcony bars. The result is "the most similar to 1906 that we have been able to achieve with today's technology", Xavier Villanueva, the chief architect and official in charge of the works, told AFP. In the courtyard, the pergola replicates a parabola shape and more than 85,000 pieces make up the paving, "hand made one by one, as it was originally", Villanueva said. The painstaking task meant the team "carried out a lot of analyses in several university laboratories, many prospections, we have lots of documentary information", he said. The restoration cost 3.5 million euros ($4 million), according to Casa Batllo, which is in a fashionable neighbourhood of Barcelona frequented by the city's bourgeoisie and wealthy industrialists in the early 20th century. Residents could finally get better access to train station that's bears village's name
While it bears the name of Dolgarrog - the Conwy Valley station has never really been particularly accessible to people in the village. The station is situated on the opposite side of the Afon Conwy from Dolgarrog with a rough and sometimes boggy track also in the way. This contributed to it serving just 612 passengers in 2017/18 - the lowest of any station in Wales that year. The situation was compounded in 2021 when the pipe bridge over the river closed to the public due to concerns over its condition. There were fears it would never reopen. But a campaign was launched, backed by Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders and others, to get a crossing back. This eventually secured funding of £1.2m from Dwr Cymru and a £735,000 Welsh Government grant for Conwy County Borough Council to restore the bridge. But the paths from the village mean it's still not exactly a convenient option for locals or tourists wanting to use the Conwy Valley Line. Now though Conwy council has secured additional Welsh Government active travel funds for improvements to the existing Public Rights of Way, which connects Dolgarrog Railway Station to the B5106. The works are to be undertaken this financial year. The Local Authority is currently working on access agreements with interested landowners and will be aiming to undertake a public engagement exercise soon. Once the access agreements are in place, they will push forward with a procurement and construction phase programme. This would improve the path that emerges near the former Lord Newborough pub on the B5106. There are hopes that more money in the future could develop a link to Clark Street, which comes out in the centre of the village. MS Janet Finch-Saunders said: "Since the horrendous decision by Welsh Water to permanently close Dolgarrog Bridge, I have been pleased to lead the group of stakeholders who have succeeded to convince the water company to make a massive U-turn, and secure a £1.9m investment. 'As part of that stakeholder group it was a pleasure to work with representatives of both Dolgarrog Community Council and Conwy County Borough Council. By working together we have delivered for our community. "In fact, I have kept up the pressure and am delighted that funding has been secured to build an active travel route between Dolgarrog and the railway station this financial year. A special thanks goes to the Local Authority officials who submitted the application and are working on the plans going forward. 'Whilst my understanding is that this phase of the development will see the route reach Dolgarrog by the old Lord Newborough pub, there remains and ambition to develop a route along Clark Street in the future, but that would require further funding. 'The most import point of all is that the bridge, which following our united community campaign, Welsh Water has thankfully invested significantly in, will now have high standard accessible paths leading to it.
