The Golden State Warriors have made an offseason move that has sparked major buzz off the court. Head coach Steve Kerr's son, Nicholas Kerr, is officially joining the Warriors' NBA coaching staff as an assistant.
After building his resume over several years in the G League and beyond, the 32-year-old Kerr is now stepping into the spotlight beside his father, a move that's generating plenty of discussion among fans and analysts alike. Some fans even pointed out that it was a clear-cut case of nepotism.
Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr earns NBA promotion after years of coaching grind
Nicholas Kerr has steadily climbed the coaching ladder. After beginning his career as a video coordinator and player development coach with the Warriors, he spent time learning the ropes with other programs, including a stint as a graduate assistant at Cal and an internship with the San Antonio Spurs.
In 2021, the Warriors brought him on as an assistant with their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
Over the past two seasons, Nicholas led the Santa Cruz Warriors as head coach, guiding them to back-to-back 20-14 records and fourth-place finishes in the Western Conference. Now, he returns to the NBA bench in a bigger role, ready to contribute at the highest level of the game.

While some may raise eyebrows over the optics of a familial hire, the younger Kerr has built his case through years of behind-the-scenes effort and on-court development success.
The elder Kerr, now entering his 11th season as Golden State's head coach, remains one of the NBA's most accomplished leaders. Under his guidance, the Warriors have captured four championships and made six Finals appearances, compiling a stellar 567-308 regular-season record and 104 playoff wins.
Fans react to Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr joining the Golden State Warriors coaching staff
NBA fans quickly moved into the nepotism discussion after the news broke on the internet.
'The clearest nepotism in the history of sports,' one fan wrote.
Another fan slammed the decision of giving Nicholas the position, 'Isn't there an established black assistant coach that Steve Kerr should have given this opportunity instead of his son? What gives?'
'Shouldn't this be a black coaching position? Doing this on Juneteenth too.
So disrespectful,' another fan echoed the same sentiment.
One fan brought out the LeBron James and his son Bronny reference, 'We still care about nepotism now, or was this just a LeBron thing?'
Another wrote, 'Nick Kerr nepotism hire, but they only mad when it's Bron. Make it make sense.'
There has already been a mild outrage among fans slamming the decision to appoint the Kerr son in the team. Regardless, it remains to be seen how the father-son dynamic would go alongside the team.

'I forgot how much fun winning was": Zach Werenski sets his sights higher with Columbus Blue Jackets following breakout season

Zach Werenski's hunger for winning has reached a new level after a year filled with personal milestones and international glory. Following his best NHL season to date with the Columbus Blue Jackets and a gold medal performance at the 2025 IIHF World Championship with Team USA, Zach Werenski isn't just looking for accolades—he wants to bring a Stanley Cup run to Columbus. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now International success drives Zach Werenski's push for a playoff breakthrough in Columbus Winning fever struck close to home for Zach Werenski in two poignant moments this off-season. The 27-year-old was at the center of a surprising Blue Jackets season that had the team one victory from a playoff spot. But instead of dwelling on how close they got, Werenski's focus already is on what comes next—and just how much higher the team can reach. 'I forgot how much fun winning was,' said Werenski. 'I won the Calder (Cup) when I first signed out of college (with AHL Cleveland in 2016), but I didn't really understand then what it meant to win and how hard it was." Zach Werenski All 23 Goals 2024 2025 That pang was compounded when he saw his old teammates Sergei Bobrovsky and Seth Jones hoist the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. It was Florida's second consecutive championship and third year in a row to appear in the Finals—a streak that caused Werenski to think about what it would take to do something similar in Columbus. The Blue Jackets' 2024–25 season was a major step forward. Werenski posted career highs across the board—23 goals, 59 assists, and 82 points—and earned top-three Norris Trophy consideration. He finished seventh in Hart Trophy voting and served as the team's emotional and tactical anchor. Top Plays: Zach Werenski | 2025 #MensWorlds Still, there are questions. Can this young core develop into a tested contender? Is the defense, outside of Werenski, deep enough? Will the goaltending be consistent? Werenski feels the answers are in the culture they've established. Now back in offseason training mode—and in July, he has a wedding to attend—Zach Werenski is already looking ahead to Team USA's Olympic camp next month and, more significantly, a bigger year in Columbus. Who Is Mark Walter? Billionaire changing sports by owning teams from NBA to Formula 1

Who Is Mark Walter? Billionaire changing sports by owning teams from NBA to Formula 1 (Image via Getty) Mark Walter, who is a billionaire investor and the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, is no stranger to headlines, especially not for buying major sports ownership. He has teams in several leagues and different countries, and every year he has quietly built a sports empire that includes teams in baseball, women's hockey, European football, and motorsports. Now, he is (somewhat inappropriately) making headlines again. A new deal with the Los Angeles Lakers has valued the team at an unprecedented $10 billion. Which is extremely shocking for fans and insiders, but just reaffirming that Mark Walter is changing the entire landscape of sports globally again. Mark Walter now owns part of the Los Angeles Lakers After $10 billion deal On Monday, June 17, 2025, Mark Walter and his firm, Guggenheim Partners, agreed to acquire a major stake in the Los Angeles Lakers at a record $10 billion valuation, according to Front Office Sports. This deal is now the highest team valuation ever recorded in the NBA . Mark Walter is already the primary owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, which he and Guggenheim Baseball Management bought in 2012 for $2.15 billion. Mark Walter is also part-owner of the Los Angeles Sparks, the WNBA team, continuing his strong focus on top LA franchises. With this new Los Angeles Lakers deal, Mark Walter now holds a major share across basketball, baseball, and women's sports — all within the city of Los Angeles. Mark Walter's sports holdings include Chelsea FC and a 2026 F1 team Mark Walter's investments go beyond the U.S. In 2022, he co-led the group BlueCo along with Todd Boehly to buy Chelsea FC, a top soccer club in London. They also own RC Strasbourg, a football club in France. In 2023, Mark Walter expanded into women's hockey by purchasing the Premier Hockey Federation and merging it with other leagues, creating the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). The league's championship trophy is named the Walter Cup in his honor. In motorsports, Mark Walter's group TWG Motorsports will launch a Cadillac Formula 1 team in 2026. He's also involved in IndyCar, Formula E, NASCAR, and other racing series through deals with Andretti Global, Spire Motorsports, and Wayne Taylor Racing. As one sports executive told Front Office Sports, 'No one is doing what Mark Walter is doing — he's building something nobody else even imagined.' Also Read: Who is Mark Walter?
