'Clearest nepotism in the history of sports' — Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr joining Golden State Warriors coaching staff puts NBA fans into frenzy

Head coach Steve Kerr's son, Nicholas Kerr, is officially joining the Warriors' NBA coaching staff as an assistant. After building his resume over several years in the G League and beyond, the 32-year-old Kerr is now stepping into the spotlight beside his father, a move that's generating plenty of discussion among fans and analysts alike. Some fans even pointed out that it was a clear-cut case of nepotism. Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr earns NBA promotion after years of coaching grind Nicholas Kerr has steadily climbed the coaching ladder. After beginning his career as a video coordinator and player development coach with the Warriors, he spent time learning the ropes with other programs, including a stint as a graduate assistant at Cal and an internship with the San Antonio Spurs. In 2021, the Warriors brought him on as an assistant with their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. Over the past two seasons, Nicholas led the Santa Cruz Warriors as head coach, guiding them to back-to-back 20-14 records and fourth-place finishes in the Western Conference. Now, he returns to the NBA bench in a bigger role, ready to contribute at the highest level of the game. The elder Kerr, now entering his 11th season as Golden State's head coach, remains one of the NBA's most accomplished leaders. Under his guidance, the Warriors have captured four championships and made six Finals appearances, compiling a stellar 567-308 regular-season record and 104 playoff wins. Fans react to Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr joining the Golden State Warriors coaching staff NBA fans quickly moved into the nepotism discussion after the news broke on the internet. 'The clearest nepotism in the history of sports,' one fan wrote. Another fan slammed the decision of giving Nicholas the position, 'Isn't there an established black assistant coach that Steve Kerr should have given this opportunity instead of his son? What gives?' 'Shouldn't this be a black coaching position? Doing this on Juneteenth too. So disrespectful,' another fan echoed the same sentiment. One fan brought out the LeBron James and his son Bronny reference, 'We still care about nepotism now, or was this just a LeBron thing?' Another wrote, 'Nick Kerr nepotism hire, but they only mad when it's Bron. Make it make sense.' There has already been a mild outrage among fans slamming the decision to appoint the Kerr son in the team. Regardless, it remains to be seen how the father-son dynamic would go alongside the team. Draymond Green Doesn't Hold Back on LeBron James' Strong Statement

Draymond Green Doesn't Hold Back on LeBron James' Strong Statement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In youth sports, a broader conversation is underway, focusing on how sports are taught and organized for children and young adults. Advertisement There are concerns that many young professional athletes are feeling burned out after their youth was consumed by coaches, trainers and a regimented structure surrounding the sport, rather than enjoying the game in a more relaxed or less organized way. LeBron James chimed in on the matter during his podcast, "Mind the Game" with co-host Steve Nash and featured guest Luka Doncic. In summary, James believes young athletes are being forced to specialize by a lack of variety. The 40-year-old NBA superstar noted how he played football, ran track and participated in many sports as a kid. He felt that kids burn out from having such a singular focus, brought about by parents and coaches who steer them through high school, college and into the pros. In response, Draymond Green addressed the conversation with his point of view during his podcast on Monday, making a strong statement that the game is no longer a "poor man's game." I feel like basketball used to be a poor man's game. ... We had nothing and it was our way out. Basketball is not a poor kid's game no more. Basketball is a rich kid's game. The days of seeing LeBron James from Akron, Ohio, from a single mom. Those days are numbered. Because if you don't have the resources these days, you can't make didn't use to be that." Advertisement Green would continue to discuss how his upbringing in the sport differed significantly from that of today's youth. "I didn't learn how to do a proper individual workout until I got to college," said Green, noting how his unstructured play influenced his approach to basketball. "Growing up, I'm going to what we did, we hooped all day. I think there's a huge benefit to that because you learn to see the game. "It's different when someone (like a coach) tells you to play one position and to do this move," Green said, comparing participating in the game versus being coached as an individual. "How do you use your creativity?...How do you know what you're about? How do you know what your game is if you never tap into it and figure it out?" What spurred this conversation in the first place was that Doncic funded a study titled "Inside Youth Basketball 2025" which analyzed how young athletes find joy and learn the game in Europe and the United States. Advertisement Per Doncic's foundation's mission statement, they aim to "innovate new ways to help young people level up through play, creativity and wellness." Rising East Team Named Best Fit For Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga

Rising East Team Named Best Fit For Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The story of what happens with Jonathan Kuminga this offseason is one of the most intriguing in the Bay Area. Kuminga's future with the Golden State Warriors is as murky of a situation as one would imagine. Advertisement With Kuminga set to hit restricted free agency, many are prognosing the former 2021 lottery pick has played his last game with the Warriors. After a rollercoaster of a 2024-25 season, that should come as a surprise to no one. If Kuminga does not end up back in Golden State, there is one place that stands out as a natural suitor for the young and athletic free agent. At least, that was the case for Bobby Marks. Golden State Warriors wing Jonathan Kuminga.© David Gonzales-Imagn Images The ESPN writer recently published an article discussing the top free agents in the class and discussing what could happen with them this summer. Marks did have the Warriors as one of the two 'best fits' for Kuminga this offseason. The other team listed was the Brooklyn Nets. Advertisement "Projecting a new contract for Kuminga is like trying to master the Rubik's Cube," Marks joked. "As for his next contract, the only thing guaranteed is that Golden State will tender the forward a $7.9 million qualifying offer before June 29." Marks noted that the deal he would offer the Warriors forward during the summer would be a three-year, $81 million contract. The final season of that deal would include a player option. "A contract that starts at $25 million gives Golden State the flexibility to fill out its roster and remain below the second apron," Marks added. If the Warriors do not bring him back, the Nets could certainly throw a deal at Kuminga that would be worth his time, given their cap space. However, it would not be surprising to see the Nets facilitate a deal to a third team as well. Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 15 - Charles Dudley (1974-78)

Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 15 - Charles Dudley (1974-78) The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history. Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the 14th of 27 players who wore the No. 15 jersey for the Warriors. That player would be Golden State guard alum Charles Dudley. After ending his college career at Washington, Dudley was picked up with the 76th overall selection (there were many more rounds in that era of the draft) of the 1972 NBA draft by the Dubs. The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native would play the first seasons of his pro career with the Seattle SuperSonics after being cut, however, signing with Golden State in 1974. His stay with the team would span four seasons, coming to an end when he was dealt to the Chicago Bulls in 1978. During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Dudley wore only jersey No. 15 and put up 5.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
