Head coach Steve Kerr's son, Nicholas Kerr, is officially joining the Warriors' NBA coaching staff as an assistant. After building his resume over several years in the G League and beyond, the 32-year-old Kerr is now stepping into the spotlight beside his father, a move that's generating plenty of discussion among fans and analysts alike. Some fans even pointed out that it was a clear-cut case of nepotism. Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr earns NBA promotion after years of coaching grind Nicholas Kerr has steadily climbed the coaching ladder. After beginning his career as a video coordinator and player development coach with the Warriors, he spent time learning the ropes with other programs, including a stint as a graduate assistant at Cal and an internship with the San Antonio Spurs. In 2021, the Warriors brought him on as an assistant with their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. Over the past two seasons, Nicholas led the Santa Cruz Warriors as head coach, guiding them to back-to-back 20-14 records and fourth-place finishes in the Western Conference. Now, he returns to the NBA bench in a bigger role, ready to contribute at the highest level of the game. The elder Kerr, now entering his 11th season as Golden State's head coach, remains one of the NBA's most accomplished leaders. Under his guidance, the Warriors have captured four championships and made six Finals appearances, compiling a stellar 567-308 regular-season record and 104 playoff wins. Fans react to Steve Kerr's son Nicholas Kerr joining the Golden State Warriors coaching staff NBA fans quickly moved into the nepotism discussion after the news broke on the internet. 'The clearest nepotism in the history of sports,' one fan wrote. Another fan slammed the decision of giving Nicholas the position, 'Isn't there an established black assistant coach that Steve Kerr should have given this opportunity instead of his son? What gives?' 'Shouldn't this be a black coaching position? Doing this on Juneteenth too. So disrespectful,' another fan echoed the same sentiment. One fan brought out the LeBron James and his son Bronny reference, 'We still care about nepotism now, or was this just a LeBron thing?' Another wrote, 'Nick Kerr nepotism hire, but they only mad when it's Bron. Make it make sense.' There has already been a mild outrage among fans slamming the decision to appoint the Kerr son in the team. Regardless, it remains to be seen how the father-son dynamic would go alongside the team. Warriors player savagely taunted Caitlin Clark as she struggles

Warriors player savagely taunted Caitlin Clark as she struggles Caitlin Clark had a rare off night shooting with the Indiana Fever's loss to the expansion Golden State Valkyries, making just 3-of-14 from the field and 0-of-7 from distance. And there was one moment where Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski got in her ear. It turns out he's been VERY supportive of the new WNBA team in the Bay Area, and while he was courtside, he showed it. Clark was whistled for a travel violation during the game, and as she began walking to the other end of the court, Podziemski popped up and mimicked the travel call as she passed by. It was high comedy. What's even better about this is Podziemski responded to all the attention to his taunt on X (formerly Twitter): No good [laughing emoji] we goin the other way [purple heart emoji] with it Love my Valkyries [heart emoji] There are other clips of him being a huge fan, which you have to love. Check out this one pumping up the crowd! How many points did Caitlin Clark score against the Valkyries? She ended up with 11 points, nine dimes and seven boards. She also had six turnovers and a steal. The Fever lost 88-77 to Golden State.

Westminster Christian's Matias and Artiles are Dade Beach Volleyball Players of the Year

Westminster Christian's Zoey Matias and Gigi Artiles have been at the heart of one of the best volleyball eras in their school's history. As indoor players this past fall, they finally experienced the thrill of winning a state championship. This past May, they weren't able to repeat that feat, but put together another memorable season as they led Westminster to a state runner-up finish. Over the past couple of seasons, they formed one of the most dynamic duos on the sand that could match up with just about anyone in the state. It's fitting that for the second consecutive season, Matias and Artiles are the Miami Herald's Miami-Dade County Beach Volleyball Players of the Year. Matias, who teamed with her sister, Emily, in prior seasons, shared the award with Artiles both on the indoor and beach side. They lost only one match this season to Tampa Berkeley Prep in the state final. For the two standouts, it was their final season together as Matias is off to play college volleyball at Missouri. Artiles, who is committed to the University of Georgia, has one more season to attempt to lead Westminster Christian to its first FHSAA state championship. The Warriors had won state titles in the sport before it became sanctioned by the FHSAA in 2022. Artiles will try to end the title drought next season. And it's possible as the Warriors lose only two seniors, including Matias, and return a talented group led by Artiles as well as sophomore Alyana Cadavid and juniors Cassie Thomas, Alex Washington and Lia Gonzales.

Westminster Christian's Guso is the Miami-Dade Beach Volleyball Coach of the Year

At schools with such a high standard like Westminster Christian has in girls' volleyball, it's hard to live up to expectations. The Warriors continually do or get really close. On the heels of a state championship season for the girls' indoor team in the fall, Westminster Christian's beach volleyball team put together an unbeaten march to the state championship match in Tallahassee in Class 1A this past May. Unfortunately for the Warriors, it ended with a loss to Tampa Berkeley Prep. But it was another example of the consistency that's made Westminster Christian one of the best programs in the sport in the state year after year. Sylvia Guso has been a part of that tradition as both a player and coach. Guso, a former University of Miami standout, has guided the Warriors to at least the state quarterfinals each season since the sport was sanctioned by the FHSAA in 2022. This season, Guso is one again the Miami Herald's Beach Volleyball Coach of the Year for Miami-Dade County. Guso took an experienced and talented team, which was led at the top by Missouri commit Zoey Matias and Georgia commit Gigi Artiles, to the top ranking in the state. Along the way, the team bonded, often saying words of encouragement such as 'together' or 'connected.' 'The whole idea is that we're playing for something bigger than just ourselves,' Guso said at the state tournament. Matias, who is the Miami Herald's Beach Volleyball Co-Player of the Year along with Artiles, graduated as did Frenchie Pazmino, who was part of the Warriors' No. 5 pair. But Westminster returns the rest of its squad led by Artiles with the hopes of securing the school's first FHSAA state title next season.

‘I don't think it's too serious': Panthers provide Nathan Cleary update ahead of rare match in New Zealand

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary doesn't think his son's groin issue is 'too serious', with the champion halfback expected to be fine to take his place in the side for next Thursday's showdown with the Bulldogs. Nathan Cleary battled a groin complaint in Wednesday's second Origin clash, with the NSW No.7 forced to wear a compression sleeve on his right leg. Cleary didn't kick goals and was kept quiet in the first half, only for the four-time premiership winner to take control as the Blues chased points in a dramatic final 40 minutes. The injury caught everyone off guard, but it's not considered serious at this stage. Cleary was always going to miss Penrith's trip to New Zealand for Saturday's game against the Warriors, with all five of their Origin stars rested, including hat-trick hero Brian To'o, who overcame a hamstring injury to dominate in Perth. 'Nathan had that little groin injury. I'm not too sure how he's going at the moment, but I don't think it's too serious,' Ivan Cleary said in Auckland. 'Bizza (To'o) went into the game with a bit of a hamstring issue but he's come out pretty good.' The undermanned Panthers can jump back inside the top eight with an upset win across the ditch in what will be their first match in Auckland since 2019. Isaah Yeo was still playing in the centres back then, James Maloney was halfback and James Fisher-Harris was still at the club as they overcame two sin bins to win 19-18. Cleary, who used to coach the Warriors, voiced his frustrations recently at the timing of this away trip after Origin that forced him to rest his Blues players given the hectic travel schedule. But he's moved on ahead of two massive matches in five days against a couple of top-four teams coached by two of his former assistants. 'It's disappointing for the New Zealand fans because we haven't played here for six years, so they haven't seen any of our team through that pretty good period,' he said. 'That's a little unfortunate, but I know it must be difficult trying to work out the draw, and everyone has their own hardluck stories.'
