Atalanta's Retegui scores late to rescue 3-2 win at Genoa

Reuters17-05-2025

May 17 (Reuters) - A last-gasp goal by Mateo Retegui earned Atalanta a 3-2 win at Genoa in Serie A on Saturday as both teams played out an entertaining clash despite having nothing left to fight for.
Atalanta, who secured Champions League qualification when they beat AS Roma on Monday, are third on 74 points from 37 games, four points off leaders Napoli and three behind second-placed Inter Milan who both have a game in hand.
Genoa sit 13th with 40 points.
Genoa took a surprise lead when striker Andrea Pinamonti nodded home in the 37th minute. Mattia Bani thought he had doubled the advantage for the hosts just before the break but VAR ruled the goal out for a handball.
Atalanta levelled after the interval through Ibrahim Sulemana, who shot from distance, before Pinamonti restored the lead for Genoa in the 58th minute with a low strike inside the near post.
But Atalanta equalised again when Daniel Maldini struck from the edge of the area five minutes later and the league's leading scorer Retegui wrapped up the points a minute from fulltime with a close-range shot that went in off the post for his 25th goal of the season.

Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Diamonds predictions, odds and betting tips

AFTER dropping points in their opening Group E match, Inter Milan can't afford another slip-up when they face Urawa Red Diamonds at Lumen Field on Saturday. Urawa are also chasing their first victory of the competition. The J1 League side fell 3-1 to River Plate in their opener and now face the prospect of early elimination if they suffer another defeat. Our odds are provided by our recommended football betting sites and are subject to change. Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Dortmund predictions Inter Milan were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Monterrey in their tournament opener and now find themselves under pressure to deliver a result. Veteran defender Sergio Ramos rolled back the years to give Monterrey the lead with a powerful header, but his opener was cancelled out just before half-time by Lautaro Martínez. Inter dominated possession (62%) and controlled the game, yet managed only two shots on target - highlighting a lack of cutting edge in the final third, something new head coach Cristian Chivu will be eager to address. Succeeding Simone Inzaghi is no small task, and with two points already dropped, the beaten Champions League finalists can't afford another slip-up. Anything less than a win could seriously jeopardise their chances of progressing in the competition. Meanwhile, Urawa have struggled for consistency in the J1 League. A mid-season surge saw them climb from 12th to 5th with five consecutive wins, but they've managed just two victories in their seven outings since. Maciej Skorża's side did end their domestic campaign on a high with a 2-1 win over Yokohama, but sadly they couldn't carry that momentum into the Club World Cup. They fell 3-1 to River Plate in their opening match. Facundo Colidio and Sebastián Driussi struck to put the Argentinians two goals ahead by the 48th minute. Yusuke Matsuo gave the Reds a glimmer of hope with a penalty in the 58th, but Maximiliano Meza sealed River's victory with a towering header in the 73rd minute. Another defeat against Inter, and Urawa can start planning their journey back home to Japan. Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Dortmund betting tips With both sides desperate for their first win of the tournament, Saturday's clash promises to be a high-stakes affair. Inter will be eager to impose their quality and experience, while Urawa know only a victory will keep their hopes alive. Our Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Diamonds match betting tips follow: Inter Milan to win and over 2.5 goals Despite the doom and gloom that's followed Inter Milan since their Champions League final defeat and the departure of Simone Inzaghi, the situation isn't nearly as bleak as it's been made out. Inter narrowly missed out on the Scudetto and, while they came up short in Europe's showpiece final, reaching the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons is no small feat. This is still a quality side, and we fancy them to get the job done here - likely by a margin of 2–1 or greater. Both teams to score We fully expect Inter Milan to come out on top in this one, but there's a noticeable lack of confidence in the Nerazzurri's recent displays - which could leave them vulnerable at the back against the J1 League side. Urawa have scored in 13 of their last 15 matches, including their 3-1 defeat to River Plate, and carry enough attacking threat to trouble Inter. We wouldn't be surprised to see them extend that scoring run against the Italians. Lautaro Martinez to score anytime Lautaro Martínez looks a solid shout in the anytime goalscorer market - and it's not hard to see why. The Argentine has long been Inter's go-to man when the chips are down. And while this hasn't been his most prolific campaign, Martínez has still shown his knack for delivering on the big occasion. He found the net in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and once again stepped up in Inter's Club World Cup opener, scoring a vital equaliser to spare his side's blushes against Monterrey. He's a player who thrives under pressure, and with Urawa's defence looking vulnerable, backing Lautaro to find the net at any time looks a sensible play. 📺 How to watch Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Dortmund Location: Lumen Field, Seattle, Washington, USA. Inter's Acerbi threatens PSG fan over Champions League taunting

MIAMI, June 20 (Reuters) - Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi lost his cool after a Club World Cup fan wearing a Paris St Germain shirt in Seattle taunted him about last month's Champions League final, with the Italian threatening to beat him up if the teasing continued. The fan brought up a humiliating moment from Inter's 5-0 defeat by the French champions in Munich, in which Acerbi was left sprawling after some dazzling footwork by Bradley Barcola. On a video that went viral on social media, the visibly annoyed Italian international sought the help of a translator during a meet-and-greet with fans. The translator told the fan in English on Thursday: "You must be serious with him." Seconds later, Acerbi stepped in to say in Italian: 'I'm serious. Don't make fun of me — I don't like it. ... I'm crazy, I'll beat the crap out of you.' Acerbi then quickly moved on, posing for photos with other fans. Inter were not immediately available for comment. Inter take on the Urawa Red Diamonds in Group E on Saturday.
