Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool striker talks SET
Fabrizio Romano confirms that talks for a Liverpool striker are now set. This one could move quickly. Liverpool are all about strikers this summer as they look to strike deals in both directions. Principally, their dream is to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Advertisement Just how possible that is remains up to debate. Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League, removing any need to sell - the question is whether they'd just like to. Isak is worth an incredible amount of money, after all, and Newcastle lack PSR room. Selling the Swede would free up an incredible amount of space, allowing them to upgrade their squad in several places. Though, whether those upgrades make up for losing Isak is another matter. And even then, Liverpool can't actually move for Isak until they've cleared a bit of space in their own squad. Things are moving forward on that front, however. Darwin Nunez in Napoli talks Fabrizio Romano confirms that Napoli are to enter a final round of talks with Darwin Nunez's representatives as they see if a deal is possible. The Uruguayan is fully expected to leave Liverpool this season - it's just a question of where. Advertisement Napoli appear to be the favourites right now. That's after Nunez reportedly rejected a mega-offer from Al-Hilal ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. Atletico Madrid are also supposedly looking into a possible deal for Liverpool's no.9. Napoli, though, look like frontrunners. They're trying to offload Victor Osimhen and use the money to buy a new striker to lead the line. Nunez fits the bill but does he want to move there? We're not sure what kind of wages they're offering, though Nunez's rejection of a Saudi Pro League move suggests he's not chasing money here. Instead, we imagine he's after a solid role with a top European club. Advertisement Napoli will try to offer him that. If he likes what they say in this last round of talks, Liverpool can fully expect an offer. And it's one they're very open to receiving as they plan their own major moves.

Liverpool 'set cut-price fee for Darwin Nunez as Napoli look to seal summer deal' - with striker on cusp of Anfield exit after bit-part role under Arne Slot
Liverpool have set a cut-price fee for Darwin Nunez as Napoli look to seal a speedy deal for the striker this summer, according to a new report. The Reds broke their transfer record to sign the ace from Benfica for £85million in 2022 but he is ready to leave after taking on a bit-part role under Arne Slot. Nunez, 25, scored seven goals last season but started just eight games in the Premier League as Slot's side went on to clinch the title in style. Saudi side Al-Nassr saw a previous enquiry to sign the Uruguay international snubbed in January, despite them being prepared to offer as much as £70m. But now, Alfredo Pedulla claims Liverpool would be willing to settle for as little as €50m (£42.7m) plus bonuses to part ways with the frontman - a drastic reduction. Napoli are said to have already tabled a package worth around €43m and they are determined to wrap up a deal early to stave off the potential of a rival swooping in. The Serie A champions are reported to have been chasing Nunez for the last month in their bid to become less reliant on Romelu Lukaku, who scored 14 goals last season. Nunez is believed to want to stay in Europe and is not chasing money. However, Mail Sport reported earlier this month that Al-Hilal are one of the Saudi clubs circling again for his signature, and they would perhaps be able to offer exorbitant wages. The striker has scored 40 goals and registered 26 assists in 143 matches since arriving at Anfield, but has reportedly given the OK to a departure this summer. Napoli boss Antonio Conte agreed to remain in charge after lengthy discussions with the club's hierarchy and he has already begun work on strengthening his squad, luring Manchester City icon Kevin De Bruyne across to Naples on a free transfer. Keen to address a lack of depth up top, Conte is exploring alternative options at No 9 and talks have also been opened with Udinese for Lorenzo Lucca. Mail Sport understands Liverpool want to sign a striker if they can afford one. Newcastle's Alexander Isak is the dream but he is likely to command an even bigger fee than the club's outlay on playmaker Florian Wirtz, who will join from Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz completed the first part of his medical after touching down in the UK on Thursday, while the second half of the checks are scheduled for today. Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike is also on the Reds' radar.

Federico Chiesa sent blunt Liverpool transfer demand by new Italy boss
Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has been told he needs to be playing regularly if he is to realise his World Cup dream by new Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso. The forward made just one Premier League start last season. Advertisement That came which came in a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last month after the Premier League title had been won by Arne Slot's side. The £12m signing from Juventus featured for just 464 minutes across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign and, as a result, has been linked with a move away from Anfield, with clubs in Italy linked with a swoop. Reds boss Slot said last month that Chiesa will be given a full pre-season to prove himself after his late addition to the squad in 2024 on the back of virtually no summer programme at Juve. READ MORE: Alexander Isak to Liverpool only realistic on one condition as truth about Newcastle transfer clear READ MORE: When Florian Wirtz transfer to Liverpool is expected to be completed Advertisement But the forward has been linked with a return to his homeland, with Serie A champions Napoli reportedly interested. And speaking at his unveiling as the new Azzurri boss, former AC Milan midfielder Gattuso has revealed he has held talks with Chiesa about what he must do to find his back into the international reckoning. 'I told Chiesa that he needs to find a way to get settled and play consistently," Gattuso said. "This applies to everyone." Speaking to Italian publication in La Gazetta dello Sport earlier this month, Chiesa said: 'My family, my agent and I have a great relationship with Liverpool, and the goal is to be ready for the pre-season. We'll find the best solution for everyone. Advertisement 'I work every day with a Liverpool programme to be in top shape for the tests on July 8. 'While out of the squad (at Juventus), I was able to train in great condition, but I missed playing friendlies. I had to start from scratch at Liverpool and that held me back. "I hope (next season) it's my season, my dream is to participate in the World Cup. I played and won a European Championship, the World Cup would be the best." Despite speculation linking Chiesa with a transfer back to Italy, Slot said last month that he expects the attacker to remain on Merseyside, suggesting he will given a chance after a full and interrupted pre-season period. Advertisement Asked if Chiesa had a future at the club, Slot said: "Yes, definitely he has, yes. Definitely. I think everyone playing for us over here has a future over here. "Next season, if he comes back completely fit, which he has hardly been for the first half-season but then afterwards he became fitter and fitter. "The next steps should have been playing time, which I couldn't give him. But I can give him playing time in pre-season, so he can build himself up and then go even further."
