ONGC, GAIL told to fulfil their CSR mandate in Konaseema

District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar on Tuesday directed the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) to fulfil their Corporate Social Responsibility mandate by allocating funds to adhere to the CSR guidelines in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. The Collector held talks on Tuesday (June 10) with the public sector units, ONGC and GAIL, which engage in oil and natural gas exploration, and observed poor funding under the CSR mandate. 'ONGC and GAIL failed to release the CSR grant for various projects proposed by the respective public representatives in the financial year 2024-25. These companies engaged in oil and natural gas exploration should fund all the projects proposed under the CSR mandate', said Mr. Kumar. He reiterated that half of the total CSR funds should be allocated to the medical and health sector, while the remaining amount for developmental works. The MLAs of the Konaseema region have asked the ONGC to repair the roads that have been damaged due to the deployment of heavy vehicles for their operations. MLAs Vegulla Jogeswara Rao, Datla Subba Raju, Bandaru Satyananda Rao, Deva Vara Prasad, ONGC and GAIL representatives were present.

Ambedkar Stadium set to reopen after major renovation and upgrades

After years of neglect, the iconic Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi is ready to reclaim its glory as a hub for football and community events. Once the pride of the capital's football scene, the stadium has undergone significant renovation and is now nearly ready to reopen. According to a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official, the last major facelift was undertaken before the 2010 Commonwealth Games, leaving much-needed repairs pending for over a decade. The stadium had fallen into disrepair, with visible damage to several structures. Spectator stands facing Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg were deteriorating, exposing iron rods, while railings and staircase windows had suffered damage over time. However, extensive work has now addressed these issues. The renovation, which cost around ₹6 crore, includes structural repairs and new facilities aimed at improving the overall experience for both players and spectators. Ambedkar Stadium gets a new look to it Notable upgrades include gender-specific changing rooms, restrooms on multiple levels, a revamped façade with aluminium louvres, a modern air-conditioned media centre, and a VIP lounge. A cafeteria is also being constructed. Gates 4 and 5 have been redesigned, and the stadium's electrical system has been modernized. The stadium is expected to be fully operational by June 15, with 95% of the renovation work already complete. The MCD has also enhanced the drainage system to prevent waterlogging and revitalized the pitch by leveling the ground and planting fresh grass. Inaugurated in 1960 as Delhi Gate Stadium and later renamed after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the 20,000-seat arena has hosted numerous prestigious events, including matches from the 1982 Asian Games and the Nehru Cup. It was here in 2007 that India famously beat Syria 1-0 to lift the Nehru Cup. The stadium also continues to host the Subroto Cup, a key national-level junior football tournament. Besides football, Ambedkar Stadium serves as a venue for civic events such as Bal Diwas and houses some municipal offices, which operate independently of the sports facilities. With a rich history of legendary players, including Sunil Chhetri and Nigeria's Emeka Ezeugo, the stadium is poised to become a sporting landmark once again.

Heritage, hospitality and a heartfelt message: Miss World contestants get a taste of Telangana

Showcasing a blend of security, innovation, and culture, the 108 contestants of Miss World 2025 on Sunday were given a tour of two of Hyderabad's modern landmarks, the Telangana Police Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) and the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat. The event not only highlighted the State's safety infrastructure but also offered a taste of its heritage, hospitality and hope. The day began with a ceremonial entrance to the TGICCC by mounted police, whose stately procession set the tone for an extraordinary experience. A lively pipe band performance and a dog show welcomed the contestants, with Telangana's K9 units showcasing their training and agility. The visitors then explored an arms exhibition, which provided insights into the modern weaponry and protective systems used by the State's police force. Inside the TGICCC, contestants were introduced to the technological marvels that support the city's emergency response systems. From AI-driven analytics to integrated surveillance, the facility offered a rare glimpse into how Telangana manages urban safety with precision and innovation. The contestants then proceeded to the State Secretariat, where they were welcomed with the Telangana State anthem. A few contestants paid floral tributes to the Telangana Talli statue, before heading inside for high tea. Traditional Hyderabadi refreshments such as tea, Osmania biscuits and Karachi fruit biscuits were served, offering the guests a taste of the region's culinary charm. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao said, 'This event gives us an opportunity to showcase our food, history and culture. Many participants have spoken to me and expressed enthusiasm about how Telangana has organised this event so far. We are sure the remaining part of the festival will be equally enjoyable for them.' Later in the evening, while addressing the gathering, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao struck a poignant note, acknowledging the Gulzar Houz fire accident that had occurred earlier. He concluded his remarks with a message of hope and pride, 'You are currently in India's youngest State. Telangana is one of the fastest growing States in the country and we continue to move forward with determination and hope. Over the past few days, you have journeyed across our land and glimpsed Telangana. When the world asks where they should go next, we hope you say, 'Telangana Zarur Aana'.' The evening culminated in a drone show above the Hyderabad skyline. The illuminated sky narrated Telangana's journey through symbols, the Telangana Talli statue, welfare schemes like Mahalakshmi and Rajiv Aarogyasri, the iconic Charminar, and culminated with the glowing words, 'Telangana Zarur Aana' , a heartfelt invitation to the world.
