Boy missing after crossing overflowing stream found dead in Kolhapur

Time of India13-06-2025

Kolhapur: The body of an 11-year-old boy, Aman Jalaluddin Bhaldar, was recovered Friday noon from an overflowing stream at Sarnobatwadi village in Kolhapur.
Aman, a Class 6 student, had been missing since Thursday evening after attempting to cross the swollen stream on his bicycle to attend tuition classes.
According to district disaster management head Prasad Sankpal, Aman lost control while cycling over the bridge, which was submerged by the overflowing water, and was swept away.
"A search operation began on Thursday night, but was suspended due to heavy rain and darkness. Kolhapur Disaster Rescue Force (KDRF) resumed the search on Friday morning, locating the boy's body in nearby bushes. We urge the people to avoid entering flowing waters during heavy rainfall," Sankpal said.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur city received extremely heavy rainfall late on Thursday, resulting in several streets being converted into streams. This also exposed the false claims of pre-monsoon works carried out by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Sachin Jadhav, a local resident, said, "The KMC claimed to gave completed 90 per cent of the nullahs and drainage cleaning works. If this was true, then why did 12 roads in Kolhapur city get closed due to the waterlogging?"
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for the region, comprising Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Solapur districts for Friday.

Alert issued river side dwellers
Residents along the Dudhganga, Bhogawati, and Panchaganga river banks have been advised to be on high alert as water will be released from both the Dudhganga and Radhanagari dams.
The irrigation department announced that approximately 1,500 cusecs of water will be discharged into the Dudhganga River starting at 12pm on Saturday. This measure is necessary to lower the dam's water level for ongoing drilling-grouting work to prevent leaks, as decided by the Canal Advisory Committee.

Man falls into polluted Buddha Nullah at Ludhiana's Tibba Road and body not recovered yet.

Ludhiana: A day of back-to-back tragedy unfolded in the city as the Buddha Nullah claimed the lives of two people — a 10-year-old boy and, hours later, a 35-year-old man whose body remains missing. The latest victim, Ram Krishan, a scrap dealer and resident of Tibba Road, reportedly fell into the polluted drain around 8.30pm on Friday while sitting on a bridge during a power outage. His wife, Om Wati, said he had returned home in an inebriated state and was sitting on the bridge with their two children nearby when the incident occurred. Om Wati told police: "He gave me Rs 50 to buy vegetables for dinner and sat outside. A few minutes later, our daughter came running and said he had fallen in." With no one nearby to help, Om Wati ran to a local fish market to seek assistance. Locals attempted a rescue but were unsuccessful. Divers deployed on Saturday were also unable to recover the body. Earlier that same evening, 10-year-old Ashiq Ansari of Kundanpuri drowned after slipping into the nullah by accident while on his way to buy milk. Bystanders tried to save him but could not reach him in time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doutor: Manter a massa muscular após os 50 anos depende deste hábito noturno Revista do Homem Saiba Mais Undo His body was recovered later that night by a team of divers. Emergency responders have urged residents to avoid the canal's edge, during monsoon season especially, and called for better lighting and barricading along its route. Search operations for Ram Krishan are in progress. MSID:: 121994461 413 |
