The drivers were eager to test their cars on the Tokyo Street Circuit before the forecasted rain affects Round 8 and Round 9. Nato led FP1 with a time of 1m12.152s. Last season's winner,
Maximilian Guenther
of DS Penske, finished second, while Nissan's Oliver Rowland took third despite dealing with some torque balance issues. Guenther had driven for Maserati MSG Racing when he won the Tokyo E-Prix last year.
TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein followed in fourth, while Stoffel Vandoorne of Maserati MSG Racing ended fifth. Cupra Kiro's Dan Ticktum placed sixth, followed by Lola Yamaha ABT's Lucas Di Grassi in seventh.
Taylor Barnard suffered a crash at Turn 17 that ended the session early for the 19-year-old Neom McLaren driver. Lola Yamaha ABT's Zane Maloney also came close to crashing at the same corner but managed to drive through the risky turn.
Nissan had unveiled a new Tokyo special livery ahead of the E-Prix. The pink and white design, inspired by Nissan's retro video game "Nismo Electric Racer Tokyo," was well-received by fans on social media.

Nyck De Vries collides with Jake Dennis at Jakarta E-Prix, fans compare him to Max Verstappen
Image credit: Nyck De Vries Dan Ticktum won his first Formula E race in Jakarta on Saturday. But the result of the race could have been different had Mahindra Racing's Nyck De Vries not made contact with Andretti's Jake Dennis. De Vries was issued a ten-second time penalty during the race, but it also killed the chances of either of them reaching the podium. In the end, it was the other Mahindra Racing driver, Edoardo Mortara, who took the second spot on the podium, with the other Andretti driver, Nico Mueller, finishing in third position. When Nyck De Vries made contact with Jake Dennis At Lap 20, the Mahindra Racing cars made a sandwich at the top, squeezing Dennis into second position, but De Vries' contact with Dennis killed both their chances of reaching the podium. Pole winner Jake Dennis was very much in the race when Mahindra Racing's Nyck De Vries made contact with him. As a result of the collision, debris from both cars was seen flying onto the track, with the Andretti car suffering more damage after losing its front wing. The safety car came out, and the debris had to be cleared, bringing the race to a halt. After 30 laps, it was De Vries on top, followed by Dan Ticktum and then Jake Dennis. In fourth place was De Vries' Mahindra Racing teammate, Edoardo Mortara. The penalty, however, changed the order at the top. Jake Dennis reacts to collision with Nyck De Vries Jake Dennis highlighted the collision by sharing the video on his Instagram Stories and wrote, 'Leading the race then get welcomed with this.' The Andretti driver was a contender for the winner's trophy after securing pole. He had earned two podiums at the Jakarta double-header in 2023 and was very much in form to win another podium on Saturday. Formula E fans compare Nyck De Vries with Max Verstappen The video was shared on Formula E's social media channels. A fan reacted to the video, 'Thought that was Max Verstappen.' Another called it a 'Classic Dutch move.' One more said, 'Dutch drivers incapable of racing wheel to wheel with British drivers? I've seen this one before.' 'Good To Change Setbacks Into Comeback': Rishabh Pant Reacts After Scoring 134
Last Updated: Rishabh Pant faced 178 balls in the first innings of the ongoing Leeds Test and, with the help of 12 fours and 6 sixes, scored 134 runs. Rishabh Pant came out to bat at No. 5 for India in the first innings and scored 134 runs. During his stay at the crease, Pant faced 178 balls and hammered 12 fours and six sixes. He added 229 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Shubman Gill (147) to help India post a total of 471 runs on Saturday (June 21). Pant, who was horribly out of form in the IPL 2025 for Lucknow Super Giants, failed to do much with the bat in the last Test series India played against Australia as well. He was criticised by Sunil Gavaskar for throwing his wicket by playing a rash shot during the Boxing Day Test, but on Saturday, when he scored his seventh Test century as a wicketkeeper-batter, the batting legend praised him by saying, 'Superb, superb, superb.' Pant was asked about Gavaskar's comment before the start of the third day's play in Leeds by Cheteshwar Pujara, and in reply he said that he feels happy to change his setbacks into comebacks. ' Bahut acha lagta hai ki aap apni khamiyon par work karte ho and jo apke setback hote hai usko comeback mei aap change karte ho. Toh wahi wala thought process tha ki theek hai maine bhi kuch kara hoga aisa, but luckily maine usko change kar paya, hard work kar ke, focus kar ke, aur thoda discipline rakh ke cricket mei, toh vo bahut exciting tha mere liye (It feels great when you work on your weaknesses and change the setbacks you get in your comeback. So that was the thought process that it is okay; I too would have done something like this, but luckily I was able to change it by working hard, focusing, and keeping a little discipline in cricket, so that was very exciting for me), Pant said. Pant, who is India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, entered his name in the history books on Saturday by becoming the first Indian stumper to smack seven centuries in the five-day format of the game. He went past MS Dhoni's tally of six centuries for India in 90 Tests by crossing the triple-digit mark for the seventh time in 44 Tests. First Published: June 22, 2025, 16:00 IST

World's first mass-market electric car, Leaf EV gets a major makeover. Can it save Nissan?
Nissan Leaf has received a major makeover, giving the EV a significant rejuvenation, with an aim to boost the OEM's electric mobility ambition and its own existence. Check Offers Nissan has unveiled the new Leaf EV, which happens to be the latest avatar of the world's first mass-market electric car. From the Nissan Leaf's first entry into the showrooms in 2010 as a mass market EV pioneer to going laggard, the car has witnessed a lot of ups and downs. The Japanese carmaker has brought the third-generation Leaf EV with a major upgrade, not only on the design front, but also on the performance segment. As befits the truckification of the global car markets, the Nissan Leaf EV follows the trend. It is no longer a compact hatchback suitable for zipping through city traffic, but now comes as a compact SUV or, more accurately, a crossover utility electric vehicle built on passenger-vehicle underpinnings. It looks more like the Nissan Ariya, the larger crossover of the brand. Nissan Leaf was the world's best-selling EV for years until it was overtaken by Tesla. Introduced by the then Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn, it heralded the automaker's desire to play a major role in the global electric vehicle industry. Despite the company's troubles in recent years, the OEM has sold almost 700,000 Leaf EVs. The new generation Nissan Leaf promises a range of up to 487 kilometres on a full charge. Nissan claims that the 75 kWh battery pack onboard the electric crossover is capable of churning out 214 bhp peak power and 354 Nm of maximum torque. The front-wheel driving electric motor is the only option now for the buyers of the all-new third-generation Nissan Leaf. Despite the tall and utility vehicle guise of the EV, an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup is not on the card, at least as of now. Nissan claims that the new Leaf can charge at up to 150 kW, with fast-charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes under ideal conditions. It gets a dual charging port, on each side of the EV, which is uncommon outside higher-end models like the Porsche Taycan. In a nutshell, Nissan introduced the new Leaf at a time when the global electric passenger vehicle industry is witnessing a challenging phase. Also, it is a turbulent time for Nissan as well. Nissan Leaf EV: Crucial for brand's Re:Nissan strategy Nissan President and CEO Ivan Espinosa has said the new Leaf EV is a key part of the Japanese automaker's Re:Nissan plan, which aims to pull itself out of the OEM's current predicament and reestablish the brand as an EV leader. 'The Nissan Leaf reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability," he said, further adding, 'The original Leaf helped popularise electric vehicles, and this third generation invites consumers to embrace an EV lifestyle with a range of compelling features. It plays an important role in our Re:Nissan action plan, offering impressive performance, stylish design, and advanced technology." Nissan Leaf EV: Right product, but wrong time? The global electric car market has been witnessing a challenging phase in recent times. Over the last couple of months, the global electric vehicle sales have been witnessing a slowdown in growth pace. This situation has propelled many major automakers around the world to shift their EV strategies or postpone their electric vehicle launch plans. In fact, many car buyers have shifted their attention towards hybrid vehicles instead of considering pure electric models. Bringing a new product at this time, and that too when Nissan has been sailing through turbulent waters, could be tricky. Further making the water murky are factors such as tariff war, supply chain disruptions, roll back of EV subsidy by the US government, etc. Bloomberg has quoted financial analyst Koji Endo of SBI Securities that there is a high possibility that the new Nissan Leaf is going on sale at the worst possible time, given the imposition of tariffs and the US government's rollback of EV subsidies. "If the new Leaf doesn't sell, it will mean big trouble for Nissan," Endo reportedly said. Check out Upcoming EV Cars in India. First Published Date: 22 Jun 2025, 12:04 PM IST
