5 fuss-free hairstyles to try for those off-duty a.k.a greasy hair days

In a perfect world, we would wake up every morning with flawless, perfectly styled hair. Unfortunately, in Singapore, where sun-soaked days and high humidity are the norm, a girl can only dream. Oily, greasy hair is a common beauty concern here. We've all been there—mentally calculating whether today warrants a hair wash based on our busy schedules, from office meetings to weekend plans. This kind of girl math feels tougher than an actual math problem. And on those days, having a few go-to hairstyles up your sleeves might just be a life saviour.
Hair that looks flat and oily can be daunting to work with. But when paired with the right styling products, greasy hair can hold its own just fine. It's not just about covering up those oily roots—it's about reviving our mane without making it look like a last-minute fix. We asked make-up artist and hairstylist Rolana Lim how she tackles those tricky in-between wash days. Her answer: strategic product placement. 'Rather than applying dry shampoo all over, I focus it only on the crown where volume is needed,' Lim explains. 'Then, to bring back a healthy finish, I apply a shine mist or oil like the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil through the mid-lengths and ends.' Her go-to products? Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo paired with Gisou's signature oil—a perfect combo that keeps the hair feeling fresh without leaving that chalky, powdery residue behind.
So, if you're struggling with your scalp's natural oils, fret not; we've got you covered. From sleek buns to twisted updos, below, see Lim's curation of the best hairstyles for greasy hair. @amandaleehair
1 / 5 Elevated slicked back bun
A favourite of top supermodels, the slicked-back bun is the perfect hairstyle for days when your hair has a mind of its own. 'I start by brushing the hair tightly into a high ponytail, then twist it into a bun and pin it securely,' Lim says. The secret to keeping it from looking sloppy? A smooth, taut base. For the final touches use a boar bristle brush or some styling gel to tame any flyaways. Getty
2 / 5 Half-up, half-down bun
Perfect for individuals with shorter or shoulder-length hair, this hairstyle is great for those who want to disguise their oily roots, but still want to show off their tresses.'Pull the top half into a small knot or bun, and let the rest fall naturally,' says Rolana. 'To control any flyaways, I use a bit of R+Co Dart Pomade Stick, or spray hairspray onto my fingertips to smooth things down.' It's the kind of look that says you didn't try too hard—even if you did. @jessica_mccormack
3 / 5 Sleek pony braid
Greasy hair, meet your new best friend—the sleek pony braid. This hairstyle is a fuss-free solution that not only embraces your hair's day-old texture, but turns it into an advantage. 'Pull the hair into a low ponytail and braid it straight down. Keep it sleek and tight around the crown—that's what gives it edge,' Lim advises. Spray a bit of hairspray to achieve that snatched look. Getty
4 / 5 Twist updo
This retro hairstyle works exceptionally well when you're dealing with excess oil production at the roots. 'Take small sections from either side of the head, twist them back and pin them in place,' Lim suggests. Let a few wisps fall loose at the front to soften the look. @kimkardashian
5 / 5 Half-up, half-down pony
When you want the best of both worlds—hair off your face, but still some movement—go for a half-up ponytail. 'Section off the top half and tie it back. You can add volume underneath if you want more lift, or leave the texture natural,' Lim says. This style is a great way to look pulled together without putting in a lot effort.

Here's how to dress for work this summer the Vogue way

Getty It's giving summer, alright. The temperatures in town are hiking up but the calendar says business as usual. Every morning, we find ourselves in the same dilemma—what do we put on for work today? A sleek blazer that screams boardroom ready? Chic, but stiffling. A cute flowy mini to combat the heat? Comfortable, but not exactly work appropriate. And so the cycle continues. It's a familiar question, one that we ask ourselves quite often—how do you dress for work in Singapore, where sun-soaked days and high humidity are the norm, without compromising on style or professionalism? This transitional season is a tricky time, sartorially speaking, especially while navigating between air-conditioned boardrooms and sweltering commutes that feel like a sauna. But don't sweat it; we have a solution—a wardrobe built on breathable fabrics, effortless tailoring, and silhouettes that move with rather than against the weather. For instance, ditch your formal pants in favour of midi skirts that move with ease, or go with a crisp linen pantsuit for a two-piece wonder. In the tropics, the office-bound can in fact have a lot of fun experimenting with fabrics and cuts. Work fits don't have to be boring; the comeback of capris is proof of that. After all, if there's one thing you can control in this capricious climate, it would be your wardrobe. This summer, go beyond slathering on copious amounts of sunscreen and follow Vogue Singapore's guide to surviving the 9 to 5 in style. Getty 1 / 34 Linen suits For those seeking an alternative to traditional pantsuits, linen pantsuits are the perfect option. Getty 7 / 34 Any weather midi skirts While we love a risqué mini skirt moment in this humid weather, there's no denying that it could be a serious dress code violation. A midi skirt, on the other hand, offers the same comfort without getting a side eye from HR. Lend structure to your midi skirts by styling them with a tailored vest or a structured blazer. To jazz things up, elevate the look with a scarf. Courtesy of Mytheresa 8 / 34 Any weather midi skirts: Faithfull Corbiere Linen Top, $180 Available at Mytheresa. Wispy bangs are back! Here's how to make them work for you

Whether curtain or full, wavy or wispy, bangs have been everywhere in 2025. Favoured by influential stars including Sabrina Carpenter, Keke Palmer, Elizabeth Olsen and Alexa Chung, fringes are back at the top of the hair agenda. Wispy bangs–defined by thin and floaty strands that gently frame the face—are a particularly stellar choice for the summer, and they're super easy to style, too. What are wispy bangs? 'Cutting in wispy bangs adds definition and angularity to the face, without having to commit to a blockier fringe,' explains Lucy Jones, a hairstylist at Larry King. 'They add a sultry '70s aesthetic to your look (think Suki Waterhouse), and can be worn with straight, curly or coily hair.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Larry King (@larrykinghair) How are wispy bangs created in a salon? 'When asking for wispy bangs to be cut, ensure that the desired section of hair is not too thick or too wide,' Jones advises. 'A small triangle is taken from the hair parting and aligned at the bridge of the eyebrows—this ensures that the width suits your natural face shape,' she adds. 'The centre section should be cut a little shorter than the rest of the fringe, enabling the hair to effortlessly fall around the face—the shorter point should be central, and the bridge of your nose is a good guide for this. The aim is to be left with longer pieces around the bridge of the brows and slightly shorter pieces in the centre of your face. I would then use a medium-size round brush, Larry King Volumizing Hair Mist and a hairdryer to style it.' Jones's tip? 'I like to spritz the brush before drying the hair. Then, I roll the bangs over the brush and blow-dry it on a low heat and low speed, as this gives you more control.' If you prefer your bangs with a little bounce, lift the brush slightly, and if you want it to hang loosely and closer to the face, pull the brush down. To set it all in place, blast the hair with a cold shot and gently roll the brush away from the face. Jones also recommends using your hands to 'manipulate your bangs to achieve the desired finish'. What face shape is good for wispy bangs? According to Jones, oval or heart-shaped faces work really well for this look, as wispy bangs accentuate the cheekbones. 'My favourite wispy bang styles are paired with rock and roll waves, or even a cute topknot on days when you don't have time to blow out your hair.' It's an easy way to freshen up your look without having to commit to a more daring transformation. 'They also look divine on a natural, curly cut, and add even more structure around the face and eyes.' Enjoy some of our favourite wispy bangs inspiration below.
