were slapped with a collective fine of Rs 3 lakh for not meeting standards after a surprise inspection on Saturday. The caterers have also been warned against any overcharging.
Earlier on Friday, a collective fine of Rs 5 lakh was imposed on 18 catering stalls at Prayagraj Junction for not complying with the standards.
On Saturday, the inspection was led by senior divisional commercial manager/coaching, Prayagraj Division, Himanshu Shukla. "During my visit to the Chheoki station, I personally reviewed the functioning of the paid waiting hall and passengers found the services to be satisfactory. The facility was clean and organised," said Shukla.
"Although at the stalls, we imposed a fine because we have approved 30 items to be made available across the stalls. They should offer at least 10 varieties for better options. Additionally, I have emphasised that there must be no overcharging under any circumstances, and vendors have been strictly warned against this practice," he said.

Regarding station discipline, RPF (Railway Protection Force) will take strict action against haphazardly parked vehicles around the station premises to ensure smooth movement and passenger safety. Earlier, on Friday, an intensive inspection was carried out at Prayagraj Junction to inspect if food stalls are adhering to quality and hygiene standards.

Old Goa-Gaundalim road to be closed from Monday for overbridge construction
Panaji: The road from Old Goa to Gandaulim will be closed for traffic from June 23 onwards as Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) plans to hasten the construction of the road overbridge. The public can take the Banastarim route or the Corlim industrial estate route to head to Marcel, Amona, Sanquelim, and beyond. 'We hope to complete the work by Dec but it could take another month or so if the monsoons carry on for longer,' said Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai. 'The work will progress faster if the road is closed.' The stretch experiences traffic snarls every day because of the railway crossing. Peak congestion occurs in the morning when parents ferry their children to school and residents commute to the office. GSIDC initially announced the road closure for the flyover in Feb but did not enforce it as many commuters complained of inconvenience. The construction work is likely to go on for eight to nine months but could take longer, said GSIDC officials. According to a GSIDC official, around 17 pillars have already been erected. The road overbridge is likely to cost Rs 40 crore to build. Land acquisition for the road overbridge was completed last year, however, the construction was delayed due to the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier.

Temple tourism to get sanctity SOPs
Panaji: Amidst concerns about traffic congestion, the sanctity of sacred places and cleanliness, the tourism department has started to prepare norms and guidelines for tourists who will visit the 11 temples that have been identified as part of the temple circuit or Ekadasha Teertha Yatra. The department recently held a meeting with representatives of the 11 temple committees associated with the circuit. The representatives said the spiritual sanctity of each temple should be maintained while hosting tourists. 'The representatives emphasised the importance of formulating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for tourists. They also recommended that tourist itineraries be planned carefully during temple festivals,' said tourism director Kedar Naik. Parking and traffic management emerged as key concern for the temple committees, particularly when buses and large vehicles carrying tourists arrive at temple sites. The representatives told the department to consider temple-specific solutions to ensure smooth visitor movement and avoid congestion. Colva beach mess belies Rs 11cr revamp
Colva: Under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, Colva beach was to be beautified for Rs 11.7 crore, but a visit to the beach today reveals shattered infrastructure despite the promise of the creation of an 'iconic beach'. The money was sanctioned for Colva beach in July 2018. The project was launched by the tourism minister at the time, Manohar Ajgaonkar, and included comprehensive beautification, roadworks, and landscaping. Other project features were gazebos, toilet and changing blocks, parking for over 450 vehicles, a children's play area, and a network of 15 high-end CCTV cameras and ornamental street lighting. In 2019, seven gazebos made of steel and fibre-reinforced plastic were installed, and officials of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) asserted that these structures were built to endure the coastal weather conditions. However, within a year, the structures began deteriorating. By the monsoon of 2020, most gazebos had collapsed. Today, only two skeletal remains stand. The situation deteriorated in 2022, when the ornamental lighting poles were ripped off by strong winds, plunging the beach into darkness for months. In May 2025, unseasonal rains brought down the remaining poles.
