The Pittsburgh Steelers upgraded at receiver in the offseason by trading for Seattle Seahawks dynamo DK Metcalf. But after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys following the 2025 NFL Draft, they left themselves in a similar spot – one big-bodied star on the perimeter and an uninspiring cast of characters behind them.

That has left fans and analysts to speculate as to how Pittsburgh might address the receiving corps now that the well of free agency has dried up and the NFL Draft has concluded.
It's possible general manager Omar Khan returns to the trade block, if not for a starter, then for another contributor who could compete for playing time on a rotational basis.
One such candidate is 2022 second-round receiver John Metchie III, who could become a Steelers trade target late in the offseason.
'Sources: Multiple teams have reached out to the Texans to see if WR John Metchie III would be available in trade due to the plethora of receivers on their roster,' Jordan Schultz posted. 'It's unclear if Houston would move him, but several [teams] are keeping a close eye.

'The former 2nd-round pick out of Alabama had 10 catches for 100 yards and a TD in the preseason.'
Metchie's career has been checkered through three seasons. He dealt with a leukemia diagnosis during his rookie season and failed to make much of a mark in Houston since his return.
With just 412 yards and one touchdown to his name through his two healthy seasons, Metchie enters a contract year buried on the depth chart. That, as Mike Nicastro noted, could lend itself to a late-offseason trade.
'I understand your argument - why wouldn't they just keep him? But I'm not sure a player on the trade block, who has two receivers drafted in the early rounds, would be in their plans moving forward,' Mike Nicastro wrote. 'They'd probably be doing him a solid by giving him an opportunity with another team.

'I'm not implying that he will come to Pittsburgh and take a gargantuan leap, but as the roster currently stands, he'd have an opportunity to see the field.'
Metchie would compete with 2024 Day 2 receiver Roman Wilson, veteran Robert Woods, speedster Scotty Miller, and versatile handyman Ben Skowronek for playing time. With arguably the most athleticism of that bunch, he profiles best as a replacement for Miller, although a lack of special teams experience works against him.
With second-round pedigree, occasional flashes, and a path to playing time, Pittsburgh could benefit from sending a late/conditional Day 3 pick to Houston. Even so, the team's affinity for 2026 draft capital and how comfortable it seems to feel at receiver means Metchie probably isn't a priority for the Steelers.

It's also worth noting that Walter, the new majority owner of the Lakers, had already purchased a 26 percent stake of the team back in 2021 and held first right of refusal if the Buss family were to ever sell its majority stake in the franchise. On Wednesday afternoon, the man who's proven to be a fearless owner when it comes to spending and securing top MLB free-agents ever since taking a majority stake in the Dodgers in 2012, finished off the deal with the Lakers that began four years ago. It would be sincerely shocking if Walter and his ownership group didn't set out to do with the Lakers exactly what they've aggressively done with the Dodgers, which should serve as exceptionally great news for fans of the purple and gold. Cubs get clobbered by Mariners for 3rd loss in 4 games
Donovan Solano homered twice and drove in five runs, helping the Seattle Mariners outslug the Chicago Cubs for a 14-6 victory on Sunday. Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 31st homer for Seattle on a hot and windy afternoon at Wrigley Field. Dominic Canzone went deep twice as the Mariners won the rubber game of a weekend set that featured a total of 21 homers for the two teams. Raleigh connected in the first inning against Colin Rea (4-3). The two-run drive to center field was his fourth homer of the series. Dawn Staley Says Caitlin Clark's Most 'Dangerous' Weapon is Making Others Better
Head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team, Dawn Staley, has led her squad to three NCAA championships over their last nine seasons, reaching the championship game a total of five times during that span. Staley is also someone who saw great success on the court in her own right during her playing days at the University of Virginia, impressively leading her team to the Final Four three times during her four years in college. Advertisement So, in short, when the 55-year-old Staley chimes in with an opinion on women's hoops, or basketball in general, it makes plenty of sense to listen. On Wednesday, Staley made an appearance on Kylie Kelce's popular Not Gonna Lie podcast, and the two ended up talking about WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who's been an especially hot name this week. Surprisingly, Staley explained in detail why she believes Clark's well-documented three-point shooting ability with seemingly endless range, is actually not what she deems to be the Indiana Fever star's most valuable and, as she put it, "most dangerous" skill on the court. Advertisement "She [Clark] can beat you in a variety of ways. She can beat you obviously with her three-point shot," Staley said. "But for me, the most dangerous thing of Caitlin Clark is her passing ability. Her ability to make other people better. Her ability to have other people's production go up along with her production." Staley went on to explain why, when she coached against Clark in the NCAA tournament on two different occasions, giving up points wasn't nearly as big of a concern as it was had Iowa's famous No. 22 filled up the stat sheet in other ways. "That was our emphasis when we won, when beat them [Iowa]...We said Caitlin Clark's gonna get 30 [points]. But she can't have 12 assists. Because if she's got 12 assists, then she's involving her teammates in a way that doesn't quite add up. We can't produce enough points like they can." Staley also explained to Kelce during her appearance that Clark is "quite incredible" and "quite an anomaly," and credited her for bringing so many eyeballs to the WNBA, particularly all the "new eyeballs." Advertisement The accomplished Staley expressed that, while she had only coached against Clark twice, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has probably been "the most difficult player to scout" due to the variety of ways in which she can beat a team with her innate ability to get other teammates involved, while also housing the ability to be a highly-prolific scorer.
