Colleen Bready's forecast: A mixed bag of atmospheric conditions across Manitoba
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 17, 2025.
After thunderstorms moved through southern Manitoba on Monday, and calmer conditions prevailed in the north, expect an atmospheric role reversal Tuesday.
Much of the south will see a mix of sun and cloud, gusty northwest winds, and daytime highs in the mid-20s Tuesday afternoon, including Winnipeg and Brandon.
Meanwhile, a cold front slumping across northern regions will likely trigger showers and thunderstorms. While precipitation is needed to fight wildfires, lightning strikes that could spark new fires are not.

Monday will be a warm and windy day across the north, too. Wind gusts will come from the west or northwest in most regions, including in wildfire zones. Daytime highs will reach the low-20s.
No air quality alerts are in effect Monday in Manitoba. However, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special air quality statement for some parts of northwestern Ontario bordering Manitoba.
Roles will reverse once again on Wednesday, when a good chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the south, including Winnipeg.
Precipitation is expected over the course of the morning in the southwest, before spreading to the southeast in the afternoon.

Wildfire smoke prompts air quality warnings in Manitoba
Trees burned by wildfires in northern Manitoba are shown during a helicopter tour in the surrounding area of Flin Flon, Man., on Thursday, June 12, 2025. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Mike Deal-Pool Several Manitoba communities are under air quality advisories Saturday due to wildfire smoke. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued warnings for Berens River, Bloodvein and Little Grand Rapids because the smoke is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility. ECCC has also issued air quality statements for areas including Winnipeg, Brandon and the Interlake. 'High levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires,' Environment Canada warned. 'Smoke plumes moving over southern Manitoba from forest fires in northwest Ontario have resulted in deteriorated air quality in the area.' The weather agency said widespread improvement is expected by Saturday evening. ECCC air quality Manitoba Environment and Climate Change Canada issued air quality warnings and statements for parts of Manitoba on June 21, 2025. ECCC warns that smoke puts everyone's health at risk, but especially those over the age of 65, pregnant people, infants and young kids, those with existing illnesses, and people who work outside. To stay safe, the weather agency recommends limiting time outdoors, keeping windows and doors closed, and using a good quality air filter in your ventilation system. For those who must spend time outside, it's recommended that you wear a well-fitting respirator-type mask. Smoky conditions can lead to symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, as well as a headache or mild cough. More serious symptoms including wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. According to the provincial wildfire service, there were 22 fires burning in Manitoba with 6 deemed as 'out of control.'

Water quality concerns delay opening of Jean-Doré Beach
Jean-Doré Beach remains closed as officials await water quality results ahead of the planned June 25 opening. Jean-Doré Beach, located at Parc Jean-Drapeau, is currently closed due to water quality issues. In a statement, a spokesperson for the park said the closure is a 'preventative measure' to ensure all conditions are met to provide a safe and enjoyable experience that complies with quality standards. 'We are closely monitoring the situation, including regular water quality analyses, in accordance with current standards,' the spokesperson said. The beach is expected to officially open to the public on June 25 if the water analyses are satisfactory. 'We will be able to confirm the opening date in the coming days,' the spokesperson added.
