The air mass is part of a mix of conditions spreading north from the US that could produce thunderstorms in southern Manitoba later Friday afternoon and at night. The chance of afternoon storms is lower in the afternoon but increases in the evening hours. ECCC said the higher threat of severe storms will be in the Dakotas, but they can't be ruled out in the southeast and extreme southern Manitoba. According to the weather agency, the more likely scenario sees general showers and isolated thunderstorms Friday night into Saturday morning across southern Manitoba. Conditions on Friday are more stable in northern Manitoba. Most areas will be sunny with highs in the low 20s in the afternoon. The next meaningful chance of precipitation in wildfire-affected Flin Flon is on Sunday night, with rain expected. The rain is expected to continue until Tuesday as showers or rain. Air quality in the south could deteriorate this weekend. ECCC said smoke plumes from wildfires near Island Lake and Nopiming Provincial Park will spread into southern Manitoba from Friday night into Saturday morning. Poorer air quality is possible east of Lake Winnipeg and the Interlake, according to ECCC.

Colleen Bready's forecast: Tornadoes possible as thunderstorms brew
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 19, 2025. Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 19, 2025. After severe thunderstorms moved through southwestern Manitoba Wednesday, more are expected to develop in the region Thursday that could produce tornadoes. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued tornado watch Thursday for all areas within the Virden, Minnedosa and Dauphin regions. ECCC said a low pressure system will trigger severe thunderstorms in southeastern Saskatchewan Thursday afternoon that will move into southwestern Manitoba by early evening. The weather agency said conditions are favourable for these severe thunderstorms to produce tornadoes. Hail up to six centimetres in size, wind gusts up to 100 km/h and heavy rain are also likely. (Photo by Don McLeod) Northern Lights Northern lights at Durban, Mb. (Photo by Ryan McCullough) Newborn Fawn Newborn fawn (Photo by Roland Huemmer) The likelihood of showers or thunderstorms is lower in the southeast, but still certainly possible, particularly late Thursday evening and overnight, including in Winnipeg. Dry conditions continue in the north Thursday, including in wildfire-affected areas. Sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds, light winds, and highs in the upper-teens or low-twenties are all forecast for the afternoon. Air quality has improved enough Thursday that ECCC has issued no related alerts in Manitoba or northwestern Ontario, but that could change. The weather agency said smoke plumes from wildfires near Island Lake on the Ontario side, coupled with smoke from renewed Nopiming Provincial Park fires will spread south-southwest back into Manitoba before moving north Thursday. That could diminish air quality in the Interlake and east of Lake Winnipeg.

Colleen Bready's forecast: A mixed bag of atmospheric conditions across Manitoba
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 17, 2025. After thunderstorms moved through southern Manitoba on Monday, and calmer conditions prevailed in the north, expect an atmospheric role reversal Tuesday. Much of the south will see a mix of sun and cloud, gusty northwest winds, and daytime highs in the mid-20s Tuesday afternoon, including Winnipeg and Brandon. Meanwhile, a cold front slumping across northern regions will likely trigger showers and thunderstorms. While precipitation is needed to fight wildfires, lightning strikes that could spark new fires are not. Wind gusts will come from the west or northwest in most regions, including in wildfire zones. Daytime highs will reach the low-20s. No air quality alerts are in effect Monday in Manitoba. However, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special air quality statement for some parts of northwestern Ontario bordering Manitoba. Roles will reverse once again on Wednesday, when a good chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the south, including Winnipeg. Precipitation is expected over the course of the morning in the southwest, before spreading to the southeast in the afternoon.

Manitoba weather: When will thunderstorms hit Winnipeg?
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 16, 2025. After relatively stable conditions in southern Manitoba lately, this week is shaping up to bring much more atmospheric instability. It all kicks off Monday with showers and thunderstorms crossing the region. A thunderstorm passed through Brandon late in the morning. Winnipeg is likely in line for showers this afternoon, with the risk of thunderstorms. Environment and Climate Change Canada assesses the city at low risk for poor air quality today until at least Tuesday night. (Photo by Don McLeod) Northern Lights Northern lights at Durban, Mb. (Photo by Ryan McCullough) Newborn Fawn Newborn fawn (Photo by Roland Huemmer) The outlook for showers or thunderstorms Monday is similar for wildfire zones in the southeast. The precipitation would be welcomed, but lightning strikes would not. Wildfire zones in the north and other northern regions of the province Monday will be sunny or see a mix of sun and cloud with relatively light winds, although they will come from various directions. Tuesday brings a role reversal with sunshine and dry conditions in the south, while the chance of showers shifts to the north. The next meaningful chance of showers or thunderstorms in Winnipeg is on Wednesday. At this point, the potential is much lower, but showers or thunderstorms can't entirely be ruled out Friday or Saturday in the city, with higher odds on Sunday.
