YS Sharmila accuses ex Telangana, Andhra chief minsiters of illegal phone tapping

India Today2 days ago

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila Reddy accused former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and ex-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of orchestrating a joint phone-tapping operation targeting her and her close associates.'Phone tapping did happen, that is the undeniable truth,' Sharmila said during a press meet in Visakhapatnam, claiming that her own phone, her husband's, and those close to her were illegally surveilled. She alleged that the surveillance was part of a larger conspiracy to cripple her politically and financially.advertisementShe claimed that YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy had personally informed her about the surveillance. 'He even played one of the tapped audios to me. Now, I doubt he will admit it, because Jagan used him to lie even in matters involving his own relatives,' she said.
Sharmila, who is also the sister of Jagan Reddy, accused him of teaming up with KCR to suppress her political ambitions. 'Back then, the relationship between Jagan and KCR made even blood ties look weak,' she said, adding that the phone tapping was a key component of their strategy to isolate and threaten her supporters.'They made even breathing difficult for me,' she remarked, detailing how her political allies were threatened and prevented from supporting her. She claimed the operation intensified after she decided to form her own party in Telangana.advertisement'Jagan had no business with my decision to start a party in Telangana. He wanted to crush me for KCR's sake,' she alleged.Sharmila also questioned why she stayed silent earlier. 'Ask why I didn't react when I heard it in my own house,' she said. 'At that time, the tyranny of Jagan and KCR was unimaginable. Compared to their atrocities, phone tapping felt minor.'Insisting that she is ready to cooperate with any inquiry, she appealed to both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to investigate the phone tapping scandal. 'Now that Chandrababu is in power here, and Revanth Reddy is Chief Minister in Telangana, both governments must launch a thorough investigation,' she said.Sharmila concluded by reiterating that previous governments 'don't exist anymore,' and that the time has come for truth and accountability. 'I will go wherever I'm summoned. It's time for both state governments to seriously probe the phone-tapping scandal.'

Pushpa 2 dialogue on YSRCP placard sparks row

A placard with a line from Pushpa 2, which a YSRCP worker held up during party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Palnadu, has created a political controversy, with the Andhra Pradesh Home Minister criticising Jagan over the 'violent' message written on it. Jagan defended the placard, saying it was not meant to be violent and asked, 'So, now you can't even quote a line from a movie?' The placard, held up by YSRCP worker T Raviteja on Wednesday, said: 'When YSRCP comes to power in 2029', and below that, 'rapa rapa narukuta'. The Telugu words were part of a line delivered by Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2. It translates to 'cut them down, one by one'. Police in Palnadu said they registered a case against Raviteja and have taken him into custody. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha accused Jagan of encouraging such 'violent' statements. Anitha said the message on the placard implied that if YSRCP comes to power, the heads of TDP leaders and workers would be cut off. 'These YSRCP workers display such violent signs because their leader encourages it and uses such language. It is offensive and a violent threat,'' Anitha said. Jagan hit back, saying that the TDP-led NDA government in the state was finding everything offensive and objectionable. 'So, now you cannot even quote a line from a movie? Are we still living in a democracy?' Jagan also said the YSRCP worker in question was previously with the TDP. 'He got fed up with the unfulfilled promises of the TDP and its leadership and joined the YSRCP, and expressed his resentment. This government finds that offensive,' the former chief minister said. Referring to restrictions put on his visit to Palnadu on Wednesday, and the June 11 attack on his convoy allegedly by TDP workers at Podili, Jagan said on Friday that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was scared about 'failure in governance'. 'His impatience is being manifested in diversion politics and foisting false cases against political opponents,' Jagan said. He also claimed that he had received an overwhelming response to his tours. 'Chandrababu has been showing the traits of a dictator by trying to suppress any dissent and gag the voices of those who question the misuse of police. The modus operandi is to catch the small fry, use coercion to seek confessions and file cases against popular YSRCP leaders, unmindful of the fact that people can see through his game,' Jagan said. Chief Minister Naidu, however, chided Jagan for creating problems for the police during his visit to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district. 'Police gave permission for a few vehicles in Jagan's convoy and for 100 people to gather. Ignoring rules and regulations, he entered narrow lanes and created stampede-like situations. Jagan and YSRCP should remember why people gave them only 11 seats — it is due to this kind of dirty tricks,' Naidu said. The CM also said Jagan was siding with drug peddlers, liquor smugglers, and gamblers, and accused YSRCP leaders of unveiling statues of criminals in villages. On Wednesday, Jagan had visited the residence of former deputy sarpanch Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao. YSRCP alleges that he was driven to suicide by harassment from the police and the ruling TDP.

Trump considers tactical nuclear bomb on Iran's Fordow site — reports claim even bunker busters won't work

US president Donald Trump has indicated that the US would launch an attack on Iran's heavily fortified Fordow nuclear site only if the US military's most powerful conventional weapon, the 30,000-pound GBU-57 "bunker buster", has the capability to destroy the facility, as per a report. Donald Trump Weighs Strike on Iran He still has not authorised strikes on the critical uranium enrichment facility at Fordow, as he awaits the possibility that the threat of US involvement would lead Iran to talks, and Trump is also doubtful whether dropping the GBU-57s would actually eliminate the site, according to The Guardian. The officials have highlighted that conventional bombs, even as part of a wider strike package of several GBU-57s, would not penetrate deep enough underground and that they would only do enough damage to collapse tunnels and bury them under rubble, reported The Guardian. The assessments made by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) found that to entirely destroy Fordow, which Israeli intelligence estimated to be 300 ft underground, it would be possible only if the US first softened the ground with conventional bombs and then ultimately dropped a tactical nuclear weapon from a B2 bomber, as per the report. Live Events Two officials explained that the challenge of using the GBU-57 to target Fordow would be because of the location of the facility, which is buried inside a mountain, and also because the bomb has never been used in a comparable situation before, as per the report. Experts Say Bombing Might Only Delay, Not Destroy According to the report, even if the US drops GBU-57s, it would mostly just set back Iran's ability to obtain weapons-grade uranium for up to a few years, but not end the programme entirely, reported The Guardian. An ex-DTRA deputy director, retired Maj. Gen. Randy Manner said, 'It would not be a one and done,' adding that Fordow could be quickly rebuilt, quoted The Guardian. He also said, 'It might set the program back six months to a year. It sounds good for TV but it's not real," as quoted in the report. FAQs What is the GBU-57? Nicknamed the 'bunker buster,' it's a 30,000-pound conventional bomb designed to destroy underground military bunkers. Can the GBU-57 destroy Fordow? Probably not completely. Experts say it might collapse some parts, but not penetrate deep enough to fully destroy the facility.

Andhra Pradesh Congress chief demands answers from PM Modi on fate of bifurcation promises

The APCC president noted that the people of Andhra Pradesh are anguished over unfulfilled bifurcation promises such as according special category status to the state and others. PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Visakhapatnam today to participate in the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday morning. Amaravati, June 20 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila on Friday demanded answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fate of promises made during Andhra Pradesh bifurcation, as he is poised to participate in the International Yoga Day in the state. 'Modi is coming and going from Visakhapatnam… but what happened to bifurcation promises? It has already been 10 years, and the special category status is a right from the bifurcation (of united Andhra Pradesh),' said Sharmila in a press release. Alleging that Modi cheated the state, she noted that the PM was not even responding to the issue of the special category status, and claimed that though 'Modi is deceiving', TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan are continuing to support him. According to Sharmila, Modi has also 'cheated' the state with respect to the height of Polavaram Project by lowering the dam's height from 45 m to 41 m. Likewise, she alleged that the state was deceived in the Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) issue also, asserting that it was promised that the industry would not be privatised but it is getting 'sold'. Claiming that there was no change in stance over VSP, Sharmila alleged that 4,000 workers were fired. Further, questioning the need to build a capital with 'debts', referring to greenfield capital city Amaravati, she asserted that Naidu and Kalyan are backing Modi even though he is 'backstabbing'. 'Is Yogandhra needed when there is no attention for people's problems,' she said. Moreover, she assailed YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly making provocative statements. She claimed that Reddy has Modi's support, which is why all his 'actions are being condoned'. Meanwhile, there was immediate reaction from the TDP.
