Sharmila slams Jagan Mohan Reddy for unveiling statue of YSRCP activist in Palnadu

VIZIANAGARAM: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila slammed former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for unveiling the statue of YSRCP activist Nagamalleswara Rao, who allegedly committed suicide after losing huge money in betting, at Rentapalla village in Palnadu district. 'What kind of message is given to society by paying tributes to Nagamalleswara Rao, and unveiling his statue?' she questioned Jagan. Attending a district-level party review meeting in Vizianagaram on Thursday, Sharmila criticised the TDP-led NDA government for granting permission to Jagan to unveil the statue. She pointed out the government's inconsistency, noting that it had denied permission to Congress to support the agitation of Amaravati farmers, and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employees. 'Jagan is the adopted child of the BJP. Therefore, the TDP-led NDA government is permitting him. We are fighting on public issues against PM Narendra Modi, and the BJP-led NDA government. Therefore, they are denying permission for our agitations,' Sharmila said. She further alleged that the government is restricting the Congress due to its protests against government failures. In a media interaction, Sharmila questioned the government's accountability for the violence during Jagan's Rentapalla tour, which resulted in the death of two innocents. 'Who will take the responsibility?' she asked, also recalling her own experience of being house-arrested while trying to participate in a stir against VSP privatisation.

Sharmila tells Congress cadre to ‘win hearts of people' ahead of local body polls

VIZIANAGARAM/SRIKAKULAM Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Y.S. Sharmila Reddy on Thursday asked party leaders and activists to gear up for the local body elections and win the hearts of the people by explaining the development that took place during the Congress regime in the North Andhra districts. She attended the party's review meeting and held discussions with Vizianagaram District Congress President Maripi Vidyasagar and other leaders at the Masonic temple of the Fort City. She said that in spite of the political setbacks in the previous elections the party's strength has remained intact. She alleged that both the YSRCP and the TDP governments had failed to develop the State and had ignored all the pending projects in Vizianagaram district. In the evening, Ms. Sharmila Reddy was given a rousing reception by the Srikakulam District Congress Party President Ambati Krishna Rao and other leaders at Indira Vignan Bhavan. On the occasion, Ms. Sharmila advised party leaders to develop the cadre in all villages and mandals since many people are fed up with the functioning of regional parties. Mr. Krishnarao submitted a memorandum to the PCC President, providing details of the pending projects including the Vamsadhara phase-2 and the closure of jute and sugar factories which were established during the Congress regime in the backward district. Later speaking to the media, Ms. Sharmila alleged that the NDA government was obstructing the Congress whenever it tried to plan agitations in regards to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and other topics, but was allowing ex-chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to hold programmes and tours without any objections. She criticised Mr. Jagan for consoling families of those persons who reportedly died by suicide after facing huge losses in betting and other unlawful activities. She added that the party would regain its past glory as people across the country are seeking better administration.

Sharmila says she is a victim of KCR's phone tapping

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief YS Sharmila Reddy said that she is ready to attend the phone tapping case inquiry whenever she is asked to as she was also a victim of it. Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Sharmila made it clear that it is a fact that the phone tapping occurred as both the YSRCP and TRS governments colluded with one another during their tenure. 'Along with my phone, my husband's and close associates' phones were also tapped. Member of Rajya Sabha Y V Subba Reddy himself confirmed that my phone calls were tapped and also made me hear a recorded audio call which was tapped then,' she said. She swore by the Bible that the phone tapping occurred during YSRCP's tenure. She urged Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu governments to expedite the investigation into the phone tapping case and do justice to victims. Criticising that the relationship shared between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and K Chandrashekar Rao was stronger than the one shared through blood relation, YS Sharmila Reddy alleged that the phone tapping was a sketch that the two former Chief Ministers did together to weaken her politically and financially in Telangana. Sharmila expressed her anger that the joint operation was carried out by the then chief ministers by tapping phones of political leaders and their followers. However, the APCC chief made it clear that the phone tapping was a small issue compared to the anarchical rule of the Jagan Mohan Reddy and KCR governments. She alleged that Jagan had forgotten the fact that she was his younger sister and had conspired several times against her so that she would not grow economically and politically. 'Jagan has nothing to do with my launching a party in Telangana. But he wanted to crush me for the sake of KCR,' she said.

YS Sharmila accuses ex Telangana, Andhra chief minsiters of illegal phone tapping

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila Reddy accused former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and ex-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of orchestrating a joint phone-tapping operation targeting her and her close associates.'Phone tapping did happen, that is the undeniable truth,' Sharmila said during a press meet in Visakhapatnam, claiming that her own phone, her husband's, and those close to her were illegally surveilled. She alleged that the surveillance was part of a larger conspiracy to cripple her politically and claimed that YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy had personally informed her about the surveillance. 'He even played one of the tapped audios to me. Now, I doubt he will admit it, because Jagan used him to lie even in matters involving his own relatives,' she said. Sharmila, who is also the sister of Jagan Reddy, accused him of teaming up with KCR to suppress her political ambitions. 'Back then, the relationship between Jagan and KCR made even blood ties look weak,' she said, adding that the phone tapping was a key component of their strategy to isolate and threaten her supporters.'They made even breathing difficult for me,' she remarked, detailing how her political allies were threatened and prevented from supporting her. She claimed the operation intensified after she decided to form her own party in had no business with my decision to start a party in Telangana. He wanted to crush me for KCR's sake,' she also questioned why she stayed silent earlier. 'Ask why I didn't react when I heard it in my own house,' she said. 'At that time, the tyranny of Jagan and KCR was unimaginable. Compared to their atrocities, phone tapping felt minor.'Insisting that she is ready to cooperate with any inquiry, she appealed to both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to investigate the phone tapping scandal. 'Now that Chandrababu is in power here, and Revanth Reddy is Chief Minister in Telangana, both governments must launch a thorough investigation,' she concluded by reiterating that previous governments 'don't exist anymore,' and that the time has come for truth and accountability. 'I will go wherever I'm summoned. It's time for both state governments to seriously probe the phone-tapping scandal.' IN THIS STORY#Andhra Pradesh#Telangana

Andhra Woman Tied To Tree, Humiliated By Villagers Over Loan Dispute

Narayanapuram (Andhra Pradesh): A woman was allegedly tied to a tree and publicly humiliated by villagers in Narayanapuram of Chittoor district, following a dispute over unpaid loans, said police on Monday. Sirisha (29), wife of Thimmarayappa had returned from Bengaluru on Monday to collect her children's Transfer Certificates (TC) from their school when locals confronted her about the money borrowed by her husband. Sirisha was allegedly tied to a tree by the locals and was asked to call her husband to repay the money and her daughter hit a local which escalated the situation, Kuppam DSP B Parthasarathi told PTI. According to police, the couple owed around Rs 80,000 to a villager named Munikannappa and also some unspecified amount to local organisations. A case was registered under BNS sections 115, 126, and 112 read with section 3 and police took five people into custody over the incident. Sirisha told the police that her husband allegedly abandoned her six months ago in Bengaluru although investigators suspect that they may still be in touch regarding financial matters. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who represents the Kuppam assembly constituency, condemned the atrocity and ordered strict action against the culprits. Naidu took details from the district Superintendent of Police and directed officials to provide full support to the victim's family. "Strict action be taken against those involved in the inhuman treatment of a woman in Narayanapuram village of Kuppam mandal," said Naidu in an official release, adding that the woman was allegedly tied to a tree and humiliated because her husband, Thimmarayappa, failed to repay loans he had taken from the villagers. Naidu instructed police to organise legal awareness drives in rural villages and said the public must rely on the law and refrain from vigilante justice. He also stressed the need for basic legal education in every village. The CM reiterated that his government 'would not allow such incidents' to take place and urged the police to take firm preventive measures in all regions. Meanwhile, YSRCP MLC and Kuppam in-charge KRJ Bharat condemned the incident, calling it a "shameful act". Such cruelty in Kuppam exposes the lawlessness under the TDP-led government, he said. Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila Reddy termed it an "inhuman and shameful act". Sharmila said it was a disgrace that such an incident happened in front of the victim's children. "As a woman, I strongly condemn this cruel incident," said Sharmila in a press release, adding that this incident proved that even in the CM's constituency, "women are not safe". She criticised the NDA coalition government, saying attacks on women are a blot on it, and tall claims about protecting Telugu women are no longer credible. She demanded that the government take responsibility, ensure justice, provide support to Sirisha's family, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, Minister Anitha and TDP MLC K Srikanth condemned the assault on Sirisha. They contacted the victim through a video call, consoled her, and assured full support from the government while promising strict action against the accused. They urged Sirisha to remain strong and said the government would ensure 'justice is served without delay'.
