I Just Got Back From Spain And Everyone Was Wearing These Shoes - So I Caved Too

Graziadaily7 hours ago

I just got back from spending a week in Madrid and while I explored the usual sights; Retiro Park, the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor, there was another sight I was desperate to stop by - the Flabelus store. For those who have never heard of the brand, let me introduce you. Flabelus is a Spanish label who took a traditional Venetian slipper and added a Spanish twist with its plush velvet outer and delectable range of colour combinations to choose from. Its shoes are now quietly (or maybe not so quietly) taking over wardrobes (and the Grazia office too).
As it turns out the story behind the brand is as sweet as its shoes. When founder Beatriz de los Mozos first dreamt of importing the classic Furlane slipper to Spain, it wasn't a grand business plan but a passionate hunch. Beatriz spoke to Grazia's Hannah Banks-Walker to explain: 'I loved the shoes, but I wanted to adapt them to the Spanish market.' The twist? Her two best friends were meant to co-found the brand with her but had to step back, 'but during that meeting we found the name: Fla (Flaminia) -Be (Beatriz) -Lus (Lucrecia) is the combination of our three names.' A few meetings with Spanish espadrille factories later, and the first Flabelus shoe was born - a slipper-espadrille that tows the line between the two.

Velvet Antonia Mary Janes Black
There's nothing more versatile than a black pair of Mary Janes, which is why this Flabelus pair is so popular. Wear them with jeans, a midi skirt or mini dress, the shoes will go with everything you already have in your wardrobe, but can also easily elevate any outfit too.
Since then, Flabelus' cult shoes have been spotted more times than I can count on Instagram, and the brand gives a lot of credit to its socials for creating a community with one thing in common - a collective obsession with Flabelus shoes. 'We're very lucky because our clients love posting the shoes online,' Beatriz says, 'of course we work hard to place the shoes in the wardrobes of the coolest ambassadors all over the world.' And cool women they are. Billie Eilish once uploaded an Instagram post wearing them ('I nearly had a heart attack' Beatriz admits), and fashion editors across Europe are racing to get their hands on the deep burgundy Lucrecia Mary Janes - one of the bestsellers.

Mary Jane Shoes Red Velvet
A best-seller for Flabelus, its burgundy velvet Mary Janes are popular for good reason. With a distinctive branded sole that's made out of recycled bike tyres and a strap finished with contrast stitching and a buckle - the Flabelus Mary Janes are a shoe that will never go out of style. Wear with denim shorts or a maxi dress.
My thoughts? The Flabelus Mary Janes are, honestly, one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I've slipped my feet into (and that's not an exaggeration). I wore them while walking sometimes over 15,000 steps a day on holiday, to a Sam Fender concert, and now I'm home, the Mary Janes have also become a mainstay in my office wardrobe - styling them with anything from wide-leg trousers to midi dresses. The velvet is soft on the outside, the insole is soft on the inside and the sole (that's cleverly crafted from recycled bike tyres) is a feature I really love - especially considering the fact that most ballet flats don't really have any sort of protection between your foot and the floor. The only negative thing about Flabelus' Mary Janes is the sizing - be warned, they come up super small - even the sales associate advised me of that. I'm usually a size 4.5/5 and have quite narrow feet, so I sized up to a 6 and they fit much better than the size 5 I originally tried.
If you never thought you'd see the day where the shoe you used to wear back in 2004 is suddenly everywhere once more, well I'm sorry to tell you - Mary Janes are back like they never left. The shoes have inevitably gotten a lot more chic - we can all probably be glad the stiff and patent iterations are no longer - all thanks to Flabelus' iconic and quietly luxurious velvet styles. Plus, while the shoes might look dainty, Flabelus' Mary Janes are actually made for everyday wear, whether you're heading to the office, to brunch, to the market, or even to Madrid.
Aside from comfort, Flabelus tick all the boxes for sustainability, craftsmanship and - perhaps the hardest one to achieve - a sense of identity than runs deeper than any trend (I can't tell you how many people stopped me in the street to say 'are they Flabelus?' when talking about my shoes). And, as Beatriz puts it 'every pair of shoes tells a story', so, if you're going to invest in a Mary Jane this summer, make it one with soul. 4.

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy flaunts her toned physique in a pink beach set as she celebrates her pal's birthday on luxury yacht after getting candid about her cosmetic surgery

Kate Cassidy flaunted her toned physique in a pink beach set as she sailed around Florida on a yacht to celebrate her pal's 24th birthday. The girlfriend of the late Liam Payne, 26, stunned in the pale bikini top which she pair with an ankle-length matching pink lace skirt. Kate appeared in top spirits as she showcased her toned abs while indulging in luxury iced cakes, caviar and trips around the coast of Miami. Her pal also appeared to enjoy her birthday celebrations as she was pictured in pink and purple swimwear holding the multilayer cake. Kate's post comes after she shocked fans after revealing the list of cosmetic procedures she has undergone over the past five years after sharing a natural throwback video. She took to Instagram on Thursday to share a series of throwback videos of herself from the age of 21 until today. Fans commented on her changing appearance and questioned what surgery she has had, prompting her to share share another video captioned 'transparency' where she detailed all her tweakments. Sharing a natural picture of herself aged 21, Kate said the only cosmetic procedure she had at the time was lip filler, before getting cheek and chin filler and Botox by the age of 22. However, Kate candidly admitted she then went 'overboard' and ended up with a 'frozen' face from undergoing too many filer enhancements, which she said aged her. 'When I turned 22 I went a little bit too overboard with the filler, I ended up getting cheek filler, chin filer, lip filler and a whole face of Botox,' she said. 'My face was pretty much frozen and it literally aged me so much, I probably look 40 in this, not a good look.' Kate then revealed that she got a nose job, sharing photographs of her side-on profile showing the difference in her face before and after the operation. The influencer, who dated singer Liam for two years before his tragic death, admitted she didn't 'need' a nose job but wanted one due to feeling self-conscious. Kate's post comes after she revealed the list of cosmetic procedures she has undergone over the past five years after sharing a natural throwback video (left, age 21 and right age 22) She said: 'This is my nose before, I did not need a nose job I want to make that clear, it's just something I've always been self-conscious about and something that I really wanted for years.' Kate revealed she later got her cheek and chin filler removed before getting different amounts re-injected, while she did the same with her lip filler. Updating fans on her current appearance, she said she also currently has Botox as well as filler, but insisted she doesn't have 'much' though she didn't disclose further details. 'I did get my cheek filler removed and I got, I'd say, a half syringe put in on each side, I got a half syringe in my chin and probably a syringe and a half in my chin,' she shared. 'I get Botox, but not that much, I still have wrinkles and obviously nose job doesn't go away, that will be there for life. 'I ditched the eyelash extensions and grew them out myself, so that's all I've done to my face.' Her fans were quick to take to the comments to praise the star for her transparency and gushed that she looked 'beautiful' both before and after her procedures. Kate has had a difficult few months after her boyfriend of two years, One Direction star Liam, tragically died late last year. Liam died aged 31 on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was found to have alcohol and cocaine in his system. Kate has been documenting her grief journey on social media and she shared never-before-seen intimate texts with Liam earlier this week. Marking eight months since his death, she shared a gallery of pictures of herself and Liam and told how she lives in a 'constant state' of missing her 'best friend', admitting she can't put her pain into words. One photograph showed Liam wearing a T-shirt with her name written on it and pictures of her face printed across it as she stood beside him smiling. The influencer also shared a screenshot of texts Liam had sent her on August 1 gushing over his love for her, just two months before his tragic death. The messages read: 'Shall we go -play tennis for an hour? I literally couldn't love you more if I tried and somehow I will tomorrow. I can't wait to see you.' (sic) In a caption, Kate candidly opened up about her grief as she emotionally said her life doesn't 'make sense' without Liam in it. She penned: 'Eight months ago today, I lost my best friend and someone I thought I had so much more time and life left to share with. 'Liam was the kind of person you'd start missing the moment you walked out the door. Even when leaving the house for a few hours, I'd find myself rushing home to be with him again out of excitement. 'Now facing the reality that I live in a constant state of missing you is something I still can't fully wrap my head around. 'Knowing I can't just come home and see you, hear your voice, or feel your hug, it's a type of pain I can't fully put into words. 'I can't seem to tell if life is flying by without you or moving so slow none of it fully makes sense. 'But I am trying to live my life as best I can for now and live it for you. I miss you more than words can say. Ending on their angel number 444, she added: 'One day, I'll see you again, and I'll have so much to tell you. So much to catch up on. I love you my angel❤️444.' Angels have been symbolic for Kate since Liam's passing, particularly the number 444, which she has since got tattooed on her hand. Kate also has a beaded phone charm with the number '444' and an 'L' laced through the thread in a tribute to Liam. Angel numbers are repeating sequences of digits, normally in sets of three or four, and they are believed to hold spiritual guidance. In numerology, 444 is a sign that the 'angels are with you' and are 'there to guide you step by step'. In the weeks after his death, she referenced the angel numbers as she shared that they had been planning to marry in the weeks leading up to his passing.

Jack Vidgen suffers epic fail as he treats himself to a spray tan: 'Waste of f***ing $42'

Jack Vidgen got more than he bargained for this week when he decided to treat himself to a spray tan. The former reality star, 28, took to his Instagram Stories on Friday to share a less-than-stellar experience at a local salon. A series of clips began with Jack walking into the salon, explaining that he was about to step into a self-tanning booth. The second clip showed Jack, post treatment, siting in his car sporting a startled look and a much darker complexion. 'I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but...' he said before gesturing to his face, struggling to find the words to describe is very tanned visage. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. After heading back home, Jack went on to explain that he may not have paid as much attention to the instructions as he should have. 'Upon reflection, when it said to stand diagonally, I probably should have looked diagonally. because I've had three sprays to the front,' he said. 'I'm not sure if this is appropriate, so I think I'm going to have a shower,' he added before debating if he should wash it off immediately or wait, as per instructions. Deciding on the former, the next clip showed Jack stepping into the shower as he said: 'Waste of f***ing $42.' The shower seemed to have done the trick, with Jack sporting a much more even complexion in the next video. He said that, given his recent sobriety, he wanted to treat himself to something that did not involve drugs or alcohol. 'So, it's Friday night, I was like, "I don't party any more so I'm not going to be drinking or drugging, so I'm just going to treat myself to a spray tan - f*** that for a joke,' he said. 'You cant really tell in this light, but there's an emphasis in the middle of my face,' he added, before putting on a pair of dark rimmed glasses to distract from his tanning fail. It comes after the troubled Australia's Got Talent star revealed, last month, that he had entered rehabilitation for the seventh time. Jack posted a tearful message to announce his health update telling followers he has suffered a relapse and was, once again, fighting addiction. 'Not the video I was hoping to be posting after my Instagram hiatus but here I am, again,' he said in the post. 'This is now my 7th rehab admission. That sentence fills me with so much embarrassment but at the same time I'm trying to tap into the strength that people tell it takes to keep trying. 'This relapse was a really sad one as I feel like lost contact with most of my friends and pushed away the people I loved as I left like there was not much hope for me. 'It fills me with compassion for people who don't have the resources to just check in to a rehab when they need it. 'I'm scared for the future. As I mentioned I have a situation coming up in the next couple months that's been lingering for the last 5 years. Something that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. I've been so terrified but it's time I step into my strength and my truth.' 'So, it's Friday night, I was like, "I don't party any more so I'm not going to be drinking or drugging, so I'm just going to treat myself to a spray tan - f*** that for a joke,' he said, referring to his recent sobriety 'As a victim of sexual abuse I will get through this. Alive. I love you all. Jack x.' Jack also revealed on Boxing Day that he had been readmitted to a rehabilitation centre. Jack, who has been in and out of treatment five times in the last few years, emotionally revealed that he spent Christmas in rehab. The performer rose to fame after winning the fifth season of Australia's Got Talent in 2011.
