Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester unrecognisable in The Buccaneers season 2 trailer

Daily Mirror22-05-2025

The second season of the hit period drama is set to premiere on Apple TV+ next month
Gossip Girl icon Leighton Meester appears unrecognisable from her days as Blair Waldorf in the stunning trailer for the highly-awaited second season of the smash-hit period drama The Buccaneers.
Kickstarting on Apple TV+ in 2023, this opulent saga first captured hearts by charting the misadventures of a clique of high society American women during the sumptuous Gilded Age, taking London's aristocratic scene by storm in their bid to snag well-to-do husbands.

Instead of charming the English elites, their brazen and lively antics saw them gaining notoriety as the delightful hell-raisers within the starched collars of London's upper crust.

Released today (Thursday, 22nd May), the trailer gives viewers a thrilling peek at Meester stepping into the role of Nell – seen imploring Patricia St. George (played by Christina Hendricks) to acquaint her with Annabel 'Nan' St. George (Kristine Frøseth).
The intrigue surrounding Nell has fans pondering if Meester might be playing Nan's natural mother, sending admirers of both previous Gossip Girl shenanigans and The Buccaneers into a frenzy for the next chapter, reports the Mirror US.
On Reddit, one fan couldn't contain themselves: "Omd is her mum Blair Waldorf???!!!!"
Over on X (formerly Twitter), the quips kept coming: "the buccaneers season 2 trailer really saved leighton meester until the end like a marvel reveal."
Another enthusiast commented: "SOOOOOO excited for the 2nd season! Really looking forward to seeing Leighton Meester in this season!"

"SO many thoughts... mabel and honoria.... lizzy as a bride... nan standing up to her sister's abuser... leighton meester cameo gagging me at the last second... i love girlhood," read one fan's post.
Another ecstatic viewer exclaimed: "leighton meester at the end WE ALL CHEERED."
Meester, still mingling with America's elite in her latest role, looks unrecognisable compared to her iconic portrayal of Blair in her fleeting appearance.

The Gossip Girl star, always known for her impeccable fashion sense, dazzles as Nell in a sumptuous purple evening dress, her hair styled in sophisticated curls, adorned with striking ruby earrings.

The synopsis for the new series teases: "Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders - England is their home. In fact, they're practically running the place.
"Nan is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita (Alisha Boe) is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses.
"And Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) is on every front page, wanted for the kidnapping of her unborn child.

"The girls have all had to mature quickly and now must fight to make their voices heard, grappling with romance, desire, envy, childbirth, and mortality... issues that affect women of any age, in any era.
"Last time we got a taste of England. This time we're in for a veritable feast."
Are you ready to see Nan and the Buccaneers stir up more mayhem when they return next month?
The Buccaneers season 2 premieres Wednesday, 18th June on Apple TV+.

Former Love Island winner Jess Harding hits out at 'b**chy' 2025 contestant

Jess Harding, who won ITV's Love Island back in 2023, has shared her thoughts on current contestant Antonia 'Toni' Laites - who has been causing drama in the villa Former Love Island winner Jess Harding has lashed out at one of the current contestants in a scathing social media post. The 2025 season of ITV's long-running reality dating show began earlier this month and 16 contestants are currently housed in the villa. But tensions have been bubbling between some of the contestants and 24-year-olds Antonia 'Toni' Laites and Emily Moran have clashed while taking part in the show. Viewers were startled to see Toni accuse Emily of sticking her nose in her business during a fiery exchange that aired on Friday night. ‌ Jess, 24 - who won Love Island in 2023 alongside then-boyfriend Sammy Root, 24 - was among those watching at home to take to social media to dissect the unsettling scenes. The reality star shared her shock at Toni's outburst against Emily. ‌ Siding with the British star, Jess accused American bombshell Toni of being "b**chy". In a message shared via Instagram stories, the star wrote: "Ok what the hell, just because someone isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean you can cause a big drama over it?!" Jess continued: "Toni girl I loved you but I don't like b****y behaviour & pulling crying behaviour." And she added: "Why can't the girls be 1 big group cos these men be acting CRAZY." On Friday night, fans saw tension escalate between Toni and Emily as the 2025 season endured one of its most dramatic arguments so far. Friction came to a head after the two ladies took a near instant dislike to each other after Emily entered the villa as a bombshell on day five. Toni's feather's were ruffled when she overheard a conversation between Emily and Irish contestant Conor Phillips, 25. The American bombshell then found a confidant in Shakira Khan, 22, who she shared her frustrations with. But Emily later accused Toni of talking behind her back, while fellow Islander Megan 'Meg' Moore, 25, warned Emily that Toni had branded her "nosey" and "Little Miss Sunshine." ‌ An almighty row erupted, with Emily despairing that Toni was "just trying to cause a problem," and "she's f****g nuts." All the drama could be helping generate interest in the long-running show, however. While the 2025 season got off to a low viewership start when it launched on 9 June, the audience then reportedly grew by 1.7 million streams on ITVX after the first episode aired. ‌ Some past contestants have started campaigning for the series to be axed, however, and the show has a long history of being tied to the tragic mental health declines of past contestants. This weekend, Malin Andersson, who starred on the show in 2016, voiced her concerns about the way the series is made. She told The Mirror: "It should be axed. When I was on it, we were naive, it felt more organic – still scripted but more authentic. Even then, it wasn't pure, it was full of toxicity. Now millions watch it, especially young people, and their idea of love gets completely skewed." She added: "I felt disposable, like a piece of rubbish tossed aside. In there, you're fighting to be seen, to be a main character, seeking validation. It's not healthy – it creates unrealistic drama and messes up how viewers see love." Love Island has come under fire in the past for failing to support contestant that take part in the series - however, strict after care rules were introduced in 2019 after the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.

Taylor Swift fans offer top tip to Oasis concert goers to avoid travel chaos at Murrayfield

Oasis concert goers have been issued some advice by Taylor Swift fans on how to avoid the mayhem at Murrayfield when getting home from the gigs this summer Oasis concert goers have been offered some top tips from Taylor Swift fans when it comes to getting home from Murrayfield Stadium where the Gallagher brothers will perform for three nights in August on their Oasis Live 25' reunion tour. Liam and Noel Gallagher are set to take to the stage in Edinburgh on Friday August 8, Saturday August 9 and Tuesday August 12. While fans are excitedly counting down the weeks to the Oasis gigs, some have been left worrying about how they will get home from the stadium which holds a capacity of 67k people and will undoubtedly be full to the max. This is an issue that Taylor Swift fans remember all too well after the famous pop star played three nights at Murrayfield on her iconic Era's Tour last June. ‌ Fans who attended the gigs will recall the carnage that took place in the capital whilst trying to make their way to and from Edinburgh and it seems Oasis fans are now starting to worry about running into the same issue as they have been warned to stay away from Haymarket station. On a Reddit thread, titled ''People of Glasgow that are going to Oasis in Edinburgh, how are we getting home?'' one user opened up a conversation about how people that live outside the capital are planning on getting home from the Oasis gigs in August. ‌ The post read: "As per title, are people chancing being able to get a train home? A coach? A million pound taxi? I'm really not sure of the best plan of action..." One experienced Swiftie from Glasgow was on hand to issue their advice to the Oasis fan. They replied: "Tip from when I was at Taylor Swift last year. Everyone will be trying to get a train from Haymarket, and it'll be f***ing mobbed. ‌ "Head to Waverly (either via tram or just walk) and get on the train there, it'll be significantly quieter, and you'll likely get a table seat as well, rather than being stuck standing." Recent performances at Murrayfield include a show from Robbie Williams who kicked off his BRIT POP world tour in Edinburgh at the end of last month. ‌ One user who attended the Rock DJ star's gig replied to the thread with an alternative solution for getting home which Oasis fans might find handy. They wrote: "We were at Robbie Williams on Saturday and Citylink buses were pretty decent. "Drop you right outside the stadium and pick you up just a little bit further away be prepared for a bit of wait though because it's busy. ‌ "So the concert finished at 10:30 and we were on the bus by about 11:30. Another user chimed in: "The buses run 24 hours between Glasgow and Edinburgh. I don't think it will be that bad trying to get home via public transport." Someone else replied to this suggestion, stating: "Make sure to book the CityLink 900 and AIR buses ahead of time, they fill up quickly." ‌ Yet another person advised to take a similar route as they said: "Citylink run all night. Happy Bus run private coach transfers from Buchanan to the event and back." One other user has come up with their own unique way of making sure you make the bus as they penned: "Head to a club till you're completely knackered then head for a bus (they run 24/7 as previously mentioned). By that time most folk will have f***ed off already." Oasis are set to play three shows this summer at Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12. Their reunion tour comes as the first time the Gallagher brothers have been on stage together in 16 years and will kick off in Cardiff on July 4.
