Iran earthquake strikes near nuclear site amid rumours of Iran regime 'testing'
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake has struck Iran, with its epicenter located near the country's Fordow nuclear enrichment facility, according to the US Geological Survey Iran was struck by a 5.1-magnitude earthquake dangerously near the country's Fordow nuclear enrichment facility in Qom Province, reports from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10km (approximately 6.2 miles) and was timed at around 9:19 p. m. local time. The shockwaves were also felt in Tehran, causing concern among residents. Semnan, pinpointed as the quake's epicentre, is situated roughly 145 miles east of Tehran. While the tremors were mild and no casualties have been reported, the event has raised eyebrows. An Iranian blogger's public Telegram channel carried a message suggesting that the tremor could be the result of "testing" by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), although this claim remains unverified, reports the Mirror US. Whilst Iranian outlets have not commented on these alleged tests, they did confirm the occurrence of the quake, with some citing a magnitude of 5.2 or even 5.5 on the Richter scale, slightly higher than the USGS figure. Despite the sensation of the quake in Tehran, Iranian media have so far not reported any damage. It is, however, crucial to remember that Iran sits across several tectonic fault lines. A strike coincided with an Israeli missile attack in the country's southwest, as reported by various media sources. The strikes targeted an Iranian air defense site known as Magar in the Behmai province in the southwest of the country, with an Israeli outlet, covering the incident. Details on the attacks are still thin on the ground, but they may correspond with the same assaults that neutralised three surface-to-surface missile launchers which the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) alleged were ready to unleash a volley of missiles towards Israel. The IDF claimed their forces "dismantled" the launchers, announcing it in a video-laden tweet on their official English X page. Moreover, the IDF asserted the eradication of a "cell" containing Iranian commanders and troops, in the same online post. "Additionally, a Remotely Piloted Aircraft identified a group of Iranian soldiers, including an IRGC base commander in western Iran responsible for 15 missile launchers, en route to carry out a launch. The cell was eliminated," stated the IDF on Twitter.

Carlos Alcaraz makes sad admission as British tennis star goes public
Carlos Alcaraz makes sad admission as British tennis star goes public Katie Boulter has been a victim of online abuse throughout her career and has called for better protection for players after widespread threats against her and her family Carlos Alcaraz (Image: 2025 Getty Images ) Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has opened up about his struggles with social media trolls, in light of British player Katie Boulter's stark revelations regarding the severe online abuse prevalent in the sport. 28 year old Boulter recently called for greater protections against vile online abuse after suffering a barrage of threatening messages, including disturbing wishes for her to contract cancer and threats directed at her relatives. In a candid discussion with BBC Sport, she laid bare the distressing reality that receiving hateful messages is now commonplace in her career, highlighting an alarming increase in such negativity over time. Spanish prodigy Alcaraz, who at 22 years old already boasts five Grand Slam titles, also faces the toxic underbelly of high-profile sportsmanship, enduring online harassment especially when he doesn't triumph on the court. During a press conference, Alcaraz spoke out, saying: "Yes, I receive it. Obviously, when you've lost, you receive a lot of messages," acknowledging the mixed content of these messages – some supportive and others far from it. Reflecting on the emotional toll this aspect of fame can take, Alcaraz shared: "I learned when I lose not to see social media that much because sometimes, when I did, when I lose a match in the first round or lose a match I shouldn't have, and I saw the messages, it affected me a lot.", reports the Mirror US. Concluding, the young champion revealed his coping strategy involves distancing himself from social platforms during challenging times, stating: "Sometimes, it's difficult to deal with it, so I learned with experience that when I lose or things are not going pretty good, not to see social media that much. Article continues below "As professional athletes, we have to deal with it the best way possible, and if I have to give advice, not to see social media when things are not going well because people sometimes can be really dangerous." While Boulter prepares to defend her title at the Nottingham Open and Alcaraz aims to triumph at Queen's, both athletes are aware they may face hostile messages regardless of their performances. "I think it just kind of shows how vulnerable we are," Boulter said. "You really don't know if this person is on site. You really don't know if they're nearby or if they know where you live or anything like that." Boulter revealed that she receives an "astronomical" number of abusive messages during Wimbledon. However, her willingness to speak out has encouraged other players to share their experiences. Boulter's partner, world No. 12 Alex de Minaur, has highlighted the "dark side" of social media, while British player Jack Draper has expressed concerns about the impact on the next generation of athletes. Meanwhile, British No. 4 Harriet Dart has proposed a potential solution. Article continues below "This isn't just a tennis issue. This is a global issue, and it's not just a sport issue," Dart told BBC Sport. "It's everywhere. Regular people also get trolled by certain individuals. "We live in the 21st Century, and are we not ID-ing people on social media. You can connect people, and then people can be found and stuff. Because it's pretty horrific, the abuse that all of us get. That's why I feel like a lot of the time, social media can be like a big negative."

Hugh Grant 'unrecognisable' in sinister horror role as he ditches rom-com past
Hugh Grant stars in the American psychological horror film, Heretic, which was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the filmmakers behind A Quiet Place An electrifying new entry in the horror scene, the 2024 film has garnered critical acclaim, notably for Hugh Grant's 'brilliant' portrayal in the latest psychological terror, Heretic. Penned and helmed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the shrewd minds behind A Quiet Place, the American chiller touches upon religious themes with a focus on Mormonism, questioning the fundamentals of belief and the potential for religion to be wielded as a means of manipulation. In Heretic, Hugh Grant, at 64, embodies Mr Reed, an unconventional character fascinated by the Mormon church. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East feature as Mormon missionaries who call upon him, yet as events unfold, Mr Reed's motivations appear increasingly sinister against the backdrop of his mysterious dwelling. A review from Rotten Tomatoes says: "Really liked this film, thought-provoking in the ways in which it gets you to look at religion. Great to see Hugh Grant in something other than a floppy-haired love interest... The ending makes you question, 'How did it really finish! ?' So in my mind, a good movie." Grant's stirring rendition in Heretic has led to nominations for best actor at the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards, and the BAFTAs. But industry nods aside, audiences too have been taken aback by how distinct this role is for him, a stark shift from his renowned romantic comedy roots, reports the Mirror US. The actor gained notoriety for his portrayal of the archetypal British gentleman in a slew of 1990s romantic comedies, many penned by Richard Curtis. His roles in Love Actually, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill, and Four Weddings and a Funeral typically cast Grant as a lovable man smitten with love, making his appearance in Heretic a stark departure that left fans taken aback. One critic said: "Great acting. Hugh Grant was fantastic. I love when they play roles totally out of character. Must see." Another opinion expressed admiration for Grant's performance as the enigmatic older gentleman, stating: "Excellent concept, expertly portrayed by Hugh Grant. Chilling and captivating with a real sinister chemistry. The only thing that lets it down is a bit of a lackluster ending, but otherwise it's great." The film presents an unsettling scenario where two young Mormons, after a probing conversation about their faith at Mr. Reed's residence, are given a choice between two doors based on their belief in God. However, both doors ominously lead to the same grim destination. A viewer said: "Hooked me from the start", adding, "This film questions religion and your sanity. Fantastic performance from everybody. You can't help but love Hugh Grant in this." For those seeking a new horror flick or a film that promises to unsettle, Heretic is currently available for viewing on Apple TV.

Phil Mickelson's ex-caddie's actions after JJ Spaun's US Open win says a lot
JJ Spaun claimed his first major title at the US Open on Sunday, and his caddie, Mark Carens, was handed a special gift by Phil Mickelson's former bagman, Jim 'Bones' Mackay Jim 'Bones' Mackay, the former caddie of Phil Mickelson, demonstrated his deep respect for fellow caddies by giving JJ Spaun 's a memorable gift following his incredible victory at the US Open. Mackay parted ways with Mickelson in 2017 after 25 years and now serves as a course reporter for NBC Sports. He witnessed Spaun clinch his first major title at Oakmont on Sunday, aided by his four-year caddie partner, Mark Carens. Spaun managed to fend off the challenges of renowned golfers like Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, and Sam Burns. With Mackay observing the final group of Burns and Adam Scott, Spaun was already on his way to lifting the US Open trophy by the time they reached the last hole. After sinking a massive 64-foot birdie putt on the 18th, Spaun surged ahead to a five-shot lead over his closest rivals, finishing the tournament with a score of 279. Traditionally, the winner's caddie keeps the flag from the 18th hole, but Carens had left that area due to another group coming through. Caught up in celebratory moments with Spaun, Carens missed out on collecting the flag. However, seizing the opportunity to show camaraderie, Mackay collected the flag to give it to Carens later on, reports the Mirror US. Mackay explained his thoughtful gesture this week, saying: "We were 200 yards away when J.J. made his putt. That scene ... I realized J.J. won the tournament and I was super happy for both of those guys. But it just occurred to me, Mark might not have access to the flag." After the tournament concluded with Burns and Scott, Mackay expressed his desire for Carens to have the chance to collect the flag, offering him brief commendation. "There were so many people inside the ropes, I just wanted to make sure Mark got it, or to have the option," he said. "As I got to scoring, he was coming out with J.J. I handed it to him, said, 'Congrats,' and left him alone." Spaun's joy quickly turned to heartfelt emotion during his post-victory press conference, where he candidly confessed his disbelief at winning at Oakmont Country Club while paying tribute to his support system. "I never thought I would be here holding this trophy," Spaun admitted. "I mean, I've always had aspirations and dreams. But a few months ago, I never knew what my ceiling was. "I never knew how good I could be, but I'm just proud that I've been resilient in my career and pushed through a lot of things and just trying to be the best golfer I can be. And, you know, I'm happy to display that today at Oakmont. "I don't think I did keep my composure, honestly, with all the breaks I was getting. So this time I kind of leaned on that whole experience where I came back after the delay at The Players and I just kept pushing. "I'm super fortunate to just have a good support system around me and encourage me and support me in ways that a lot of people don't notice. So I'm just proud of how I battled, and I'm super proud to be the U.S. Open champion." Despite his unlikely win, Spaun is straight back in action at the Travelers Championship where he battle it out with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler for the £2.6m prize.
