Fresh engineering graduate tells dad about his job offer. But got compared to auto drivers instead

An engineering graduate broke the news of landing a job to his family. But instead of seeing them overjoyed, he was met with disappointment. His father was far from ecstatic when he heard his annual pay package and stated that he had heard of autodrivers who outearned him. The young man turned to the online community on the Indian Workplace subreddit to vent his frustrations. He revealed that although he had completed his engineering degree and landed a job with a salary of Rs 4 LPA, he was still in the waiting period for onboarding. When he shared this update with his father, he was told bluntly that such a pay scale was lower than that of the auto drivers in their locality. Feeling dejected, the graduate tried to reason with his father, explaining that he had worked hard to earn the opportunity and didn't deserve to be compared to others. But his efforts did little to bridge the emotional gap. The situation, he said, mirrored that of one of his friends who earns about Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 a month. His friend's father reportedly dismissed the income, saying workers at their family-owned store brought home similar earnings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Thailand (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now The young engineer reflected on the broader issue of how freshers in the engineering field, especially those from Tier 2 institutions, are significantly underpaid. According to him, many college graduates struggle to secure offers above Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per month—equivalent to about Rs 4 LPA. Only a fortunate few land jobs paying Rs 5 to Rs 6 LPA, leaving the rest to navigate an industry where compensation seems disconnected from the effort and education invested. He questioned why large multinational companies, which generate massive profits by working with international clients, offer such meager salaries to entry-level employees in India. For him, this raises a fundamental question of fairness in corporate compensation practices . In response, several Reddit users weighed in with their perspectives. One commenter emphasized that holding a degree doesn't automatically translate into a high salary. In the job market, employers compensate based on value and skills brought to the table—not for years spent studying. They encouraged upskilling and building expertise as a way to climb the salary ladder. Another user suggested confronting the generational bias by asking parents if the individuals they reference—such as drivers or shop workers—started their careers earning large sums. The commenter pointed out that most professionals begin with modest incomes and work their way up. They stressed that unless someone has credentials from elite institutions like IIT or IIM or is recruited by top-tier tech firms, sky-high starting packages are rare.

'Welcome to India': Redditor's post on Gurgaon vs Toronto real estate prices starts a 'NRIs or blackmoney' debate

A Reddit post comparing real estate prices in Gurgaon and Toronto has gone viral, stirring a debate on income disparity and property affordability. Posted by Mohit Yadavv, the viral post highlighted the shocking contrast: a 3 BHK in Gurgaon costs around ₹2.95 crore, while a similar property in Toronto is priced at ₹4.4 crore. Yet, India's per capita income is just $3,000 compared to Canada's $54,000 — an 18x difference. In contrast, real estate prices differ by only 1.5x. 'Those buying in Gurgaon either have one in Toronto too, or they're simply stretching themselves without reason,' one Redditor remarked. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 7 Things Changing for Seniors on Social Security in 2025 HealthyWallet Learn More Undo Another comment pointed fingers elsewhere: 'It's not just NRIs distorting the market. They're too few to create this kind of disparity. It's the black money in the system inflating these prices.' However, one person said the comparison is wrong. "Scarborough is not Toronto, it's part of GTA(Greater Toronto Area) and is historically a crime ridden bad neighbourhood. Actual Condo prices in actual Toronto suburbs or downtown would be upwards of 1 million easy. Go towards Mississauga and Brampton and you will find the same," he pointed out. Live Events Another said, "Canada population is 40 million and india population 1.45 billion see the population difference. GDP is divided by population. Many indian go to Canada for studies." Skyrocketing Gurgaon Property Prices According to a report by ANAROCK titled 'NCR Real Estate—A Beacon of Growth and Opportunity' , NRIs accounted for 15–25% of investments in newly launched residential projects across India's top seven cities — Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata — in 2024. The report further revealed that average property prices in New Gurgaon rose to ₹10,350 per sq. ft in 2024 — a 76% surge since 2019 and a 34% jump since last year. Overall, Gurgaon witnessed an 84% price hike, from ₹6,150 per sq. ft in early 2020 to ₹11,300 by March 2025. Residential prices along the Dwarka Expressway more than doubled in five years — from ₹5,360 per sq. ft in 2019 to ₹11,000 in 2025 — due to improved connectivity with Delhi and key Gurgaon locations like Golf Course Road and Old Gurgaon. Sohna Road, another hotspot in southern Gurgaon, recorded average prices of around ₹6,000 per sq. ft in 2024. The area is emerging as a go-to destination for affordable housing seekers, the report noted.

Woman visits dog-friendly cafe but is fuming at pet's 'out of control' behaviour

A woman has sparked a debate after sharing her frustration over dining out at a café while three dogs bark at each other - ruining her peace and quiet as the owners refused to step in to do something about it A woman has slammed 'entitled' dog owners who allow their dogs to play up because they're in a dog-friendly space. She explained how her café lunch was spoiled by the sights, sounds and smells coming from dogs sitting with their owners nearby. While she has no problem with dog-friendly spaces, she believes only well-behaved animals should be allowed in certain settings such as in cafes, restaurants and bars. She said on Reddit: "I'm sitting in a café, having lunch. There are three dogs in here, with different owners, all triggering each other. Bark bark bark. "I have to put up with their body fluids, smells and hair in an eating establishment, why on earth, do people think it's acceptable to make me sit through the noise as well?" While some users agreed with her point-of-view, others raised their own concerns about owners who bring ill-behaved animals around those eating. ‌ One user said: "Places that allow dogs often put 'well behaved' on their signage, at least they do if they have any sense. It's up to the owners of the dogs to keep them under some form of control. ‌ "Yes, I do have dogs, and yes I have had them in dog friendly establishments. If your dog is constantly barking then it's your responsibility to control it, or leave, or possibly be told to leave." Another user added: "I have three dogs, only two of which I would take out to a public place. The third dog is just too anxious and reactive, so we don't subject people to the noise." A third user said: "I have a very well-loved dog but I know he does not get along well with others - people and dogs -so that is why he stays home when I go out to places like this. "It is not about me and my dog, it is about getting along in society without my dog being a big a***hole." One more user added: "Why it is crazy service dogs are not required to have an obvious ID tag. Emotional support dogs are not service dogs." ‌ Another user said: "This one is tricky, I see both sides. On one hand, the establishment is dog friendly, the owners have every right to bring their dog there. And especially if the dogs are puppies/young, the only way they will get used to the public environment and learn to behave is to be exposed to it. "On the other hand, owners need to know their dogs. I don't bring my dogs to restaurants or anywhere like that because I know they will bother others, especially if there are other dogs around. If I knew they would be the only dog, I may bring one of them at a time with me…but if the establishment is dog friendly, there is no way to know that they will be the only dog. So I don't. "Where I live most bars have outdoor seating/patios that are dog friendly, but inside is not. So you have the option of not dealing with it, which is nice." Offering a solution, a final person wrote: "Let the management of the café know how you feel. You can add that you may have to eat elsewhere if they don't enforce a no barking policy. They will get the message and if they don't take your business elsewhere. "I have two dogs that like to bark at other dogs. They don't belong in a café, regardless of the owner's policy or permission."

Wedding cake slammed as ‘tacky' and ‘gross' as people predict the couple ‘will be divorced in two years'

AISLE SAY Wedding cake slammed as 'tacky' and 'gross' as people predict the couple 'will be divorced in two years' PEOPLE say your wedding is one of the most important and happiest of days of your life. But one couple might have started off on the wrong foot, at least that's what people think - and it's all because of their wedding cake. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The controversial cake left people divided online Credit: Reddit 2 People predicted the couple would end up divorced in just two years Credit: Getty This comes after their cake was shared on Reddit - and the design left people scratching their heads. "My friend is a wedding photographer. Everyone thinks this is cute. I think it's gross," the caption alongside the snap of the cake read. The cake didn't feature the classic bride and groom topper, but instead of standing side by side, the bride is dragging the groom away from his video games and snacks in her gown. "Imagine spending 60k on a wedding and your groom would rather be playing video games," the Reddit user added. It turns out they weren't the only ones who thought the cake was worse than tongue-in-cheek. One commented: "All those 'ball and chain' references are so incredibly tacky and hurtful. If you feel like your life gets worse by getting married, don't do it." And a second admitted they knew someone who took things to the next level, they explained: "They had a whole photoshoot with this theme. "Most memorable were a photo where she is pulling him by the shirt as he tries to get away, and another of him clocking her on the chin while she smiles. "Kept my mouth shut but in my mind I was thinking what the actual f**k." And another chimed in: "My wife's family had this on their cake. Wedding song was Before He Cheats, food was a potluck, groom punched a guest and was taken by police. 10/10." Georgia Steel slammed for wearing 'white' lace dress to Dani Dyer's wedding - with many stunned by her 'risky' frock Meanwhile, others slammed the groom: "This is pretty damning for the dude." "Imagine being proud of being a loser to the point that you want your f**king wedding theme to revolve around being a manchild who doesn't want to get married," they added. And someone else bluntly wrote: "This tells me everything I need to know. They'll be divorced in two years, max." But the couple aren't the only ones who were slammed for their controversial wedding cake. Luckily, Annie Bennett, founder of Leading Lady Cakes, shared some of her top tips for choosing a cake for your big day. She told Hello the price of the cake really depends on the size you're looking for, but remember to consider your budget, you don't want to get the most expensive cake and not have enough money for anything else. 'There's no set price list, and each baker will price their work according to their own set-up. Some bakers charge per person, but most will base prices on the size of the cake, the detail of decorations required and where the cake is to be delivered,' said Annie. She added that it's usually the decoration that will increase costs, and that if you want a seven tier cake you should be prepared to fork out four figures. You don't want a cake so small that you can't give everyone a slice, nor do you want a huge cake that you are still going to have slices of in your fridge months later. The important thing is to cater to how many people you have invited - if you have 100 guests you will want enough for everyone to have a slice, including yourself. And if you still have some left over, Annie has one tip for minimising food waste, 'ask the caterers to wrap any leftover cake, and then take it home and freeze it," she said, "you can then have memories of your wedding for up to three months after it!" Don't do this if the cake has already been frozen and defrosted though.
