Matt Baker opens up on being 'apart' from wife as he issues family update

Countryfile's Matt Baker and his wife Nicola have been together for over two decades and have recently seen their careers go in different directions 'Countryfile' favourite Matt Baker and his wife Nicola have opened up about spending time apart as she embarks on an exciting new chapter away from their farm, chasing after a career in writing. In recent years, the couple have captured viewers' hearts on their hit Channel 4 series, Our Farm in The Dales, where the ex-Blue Peter presenter and his wife can be seen managing a sheep farm in the picturesque Durham hillside, close to where Matt was raised. ‌ Although Nicola's career has primarily revolved around her physiotherapy work and bringing up their two kids, she's also indulged in penning stories over the years. What was once just a pastime has blossomed into a full-fledged career, with Nicola now boasting three children's novels to her name and even more in the pipeline. ‌ With Matt juggling his own telly commitments, the two recently discussed their individual ventures during their chat on Lorraine's couch. Lorraine probed: "You go off doing your own thing writing the books, and you go off doing your own things around Britain, so there are times where you are apart. But don't you think sometimes that works?" Matt shared his take on their newfound independence, expressing: "We're such doers in our lives, and we're so supportive of what each other wants to do, we've just found our way through." Amid their busy schedules, Nicola revealed that their limited time together has become even more precious: "We make the most of the time that we have together and prioritise that — and make the most of that." The lovebirds met by happy accident when Matt was a performer at a disco in Cleethorpes, culminating in a beautiful wedding over two decades ago. Now parents to Molly and Luke, they've witnessed their bond only grow stronger with time. ‌ In her literary endeavours, Nicola released her first children's book, A Whistledown Farm Adventure: Finding Hope, in February last year and has since seen two more of her novels — Rescuing Ruby and Meeting Meg — appear on shelves, with another title anticipated later this year. While Nicola gives us a peek into her world with Matt, he himself is gearing up for a return to the telly later today, joining forces with Sammi Kinghorn to explore East Devon on the latest instalment of Countryfile. Additionally, fans of the bucolic show can look forward to Adam Henson's comeback, as he cares for the newborn livestock on his farm in the Cotswolds. Be sure not to miss Countryfile, which airs this afternoon (Sunday, June 22) on BBC One at 5.25pm.

Antiques Roadshow guests 'not allowed' to do one thing which could ruin the show

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Antiques Roadshow participant was taken aback by a strict rule on set, and the valuations of her items also left her surprised. The moment occurred during the filming of the American version of the popular BBC programme. Journalist Jennifer Kopf had the opportunity to participate in the forthcoming series filmed at Grant's Farm in St. Louis. The Country Living writer brought along a framed silhouette and blue glass lamps, keen to learn their value. She explained that depending on the category of your item, you end up consulting with an expert appraiser from that field in a designated area 'spread out all across the grounds'. To prevent any spoilers from leaking, she disclosed that there was one rule she had to adhere to while on set. Jennifer penned for the magazine: "Set up in between were three different filming 'studios' with those famous tables arranged for the big-time appraisals." (Image: Anna Gordon/BBC/PA Wire) I wasn't allowed to tape anything happening on set so as not to take away anything from the big reveals come air time. "Unfortunately, her items didn't fetch the price she had hoped for, with her framed silhouette fetching a modest $25 to $ what really stung was the disappointing valuation of the lamps. Jennifer admitted: "$15 a piece. I have to admit, this hurt a little. But I still love my lamps and will find a perfect spot for them soon". (Image: BBC) This follows another Antiques Roadshow episode where a guest was left astounded after a family ring, long assumed to be inexpensive costume jewellery, turned out to be rare and valuable. An emerald piece has fetched a price far beyond its anticipated value. The astonishing discovery was made during an episode first aired in October 2022 and rebroadcast on Sunday, 15 June. Expert John Benjamin left one family utterly gobsmacked. The guests, two cousins, brought along a trove of inherited heirlooms passed down through the generations. Among the items were a gold novelty pencil, a decorative brooch featuring a fly on a flower, and the green stone ring that became the focus of attention. Discussing the provenance of the pieces, the guests disclosed that many belonged to their great-great-great grandmother, born in 1858. One item, a pencil shaped like a mountaineer's ice pick, bore the names of French mountains. The most startling revelation concerned the green stone ring, which the family had always believed to be costume jewellery. Benjamin valued the ring at a staggering £4,000. In total, the collection was estimated to fetch around £7,000 at auction. Antiques Roadshow can be viewed on BBC One and iPlayer.

Premier League footballer 'signs up' for Strictly Come Dancing 2025 series

Premier League footballer 'signs up' for Strictly Come Dancing 2025 series The 23rd season of the BBC One dance competition is still months away but the rumour mill has been in overdrive He would be a huge signing for the dance show (Image: BBC ) As the 2025 season of Strictly Come Dancing approaches, rumours are swirling about the celebrities set to dazzle on the dance floor, with a Premier League legend being the latest name expected to join the line-up. Ex-Leeds United ace Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is reportedly trading football boots for dancing shoes as he gears up to compete in the beloved BBC competition. ‌ At 53, the Dutch former footballer could be the next sports star to attempt to cha-cha-cha his way to success on Strictly, following in the footsteps of Robbie Savage, Alex Scott, and Tony Adams, who have all vied for the coveted Glitterball Trophy. ‌ Hasselbaink, who took on a coaching role with the England squad in 2023, stepped down last August after Gareth Southgate's departure as manager. With more free time, it's rumoured that Jimmy might be strutting his stuff on the Strictly stage this year. An insider revealed to The Sun: "Jimmy has a huge fanbase from his years playing in the Premier League and is a very likeable character. Show producers are always keen to book a retired footballer as it gets footie fans tuning into the series and becoming unlikely fans of the show. Jimmy has a competitive edge and is going to get his head in the game." Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is the latest star linked to Strictly Come Dancing 2025 (Image: Getty Images ) Article continues below Other celebrities speculated to join the glittering roster include Olympian Sir Mo Farah, Gladiators' Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, also known as Nitro, and former Big Brother housemate Yinrun Huang, all potentially stepping onto the Strictly dance floor in the new season, reports the Mirror. Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke are all confirmed to return for what will be the 23rd series in 2025. However, with scandals marring the show in the past two years, there is concern about potential new controversies. Strictly has faced negative press recently with allegations of professional dancers being physically rough with their celebrity counterparts and celebrities themselves being accused of improper conduct. ‌ Reports suggested earlier this year that BBC executives were grappling with a "terrible, terrible fear" of more scandalous incidents, prompting measures to overhaul the show's image, which might affect casting decisions. In a bid to keep future series scandal-free, the BBC is reportedly vetting individuals carefully for the 2025 line-up. Names such as Blue Peter presenters Joel Mawhinney and Shini Muthukrishnan are being considered alongside Tom Parker Bowles, Queen Camilla's son. Other celebrities rumoured to join the next season include Georgia Toffolo, the winner of I'm a Celebrity, and Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud. Dani Dyer, who recently wed after her stint on Love Island, and ex-Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan are also reportedly in the running for a spot on the dance floor. ‌ Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke are expected to return as judges (Image: BBC/Guy Levy ) "There is a terrible, terrible fear among those high up that these awful things are going to keep happening and the show will be brought into disrepute again and again," a well-informed BBC insider revealed to MailOnline. "With that in mind, they are taking no chances. "There will be stringent checks, and asking around, and digging into potential stars' backgrounds to make sure that they're not choosing anyone who might damage the show. For years, there was the whole Strictly "curse" where the contestants and professionals kept having affairs. But that stopped. Article continues below "Changes were made to the partnerships and it worked. There have been other issues in the past couple of years, though. What's been even more embarrassing for the BBC is that Wynne and Jamie have been from their own stable of stars. Going forward, those at the top want a wholesome image to shine through. No more scandal – just joy." This revelation follows an incident involving 2024 contestant Jamie Borthwick, known for his role as Jay Brown in the BBC soap EastEnders, who had to issue a heartfelt apology after footage allegedly surfaced showing him making derogatory remarks about the people of Blackpool. Strictly Come Dancing is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
