"RJD does not respect anyone other than Lalu Yadav": BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain

India Gazette15-06-2025

New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Amid the political controversy surrounding Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav allegedly insulting BR Ambedkar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday launched a scathing attack at the party, accusing them of showing disrespect to anyone other than its chief.
Hussain criticised the RJD over the recent controversy surrounding Lalu Yadav's birthday celebrations, alleging an insult to Dr BR Ambedkar.
He alleged that the RJD chief had placed Ambedkar's picture near his feet during his birthday celebration, noting that it was 'not acceptable' to insult Baba Saheb in the guise of his birthday celebration.
'On one side, Lalu Yadav talks about social justice, and on the other, they insult Babasaheb. Celebrate your birthday, but what message do you want to convey by keeping Babasaheb's picture near your feet? It is not acceptable to insult Babasaheb under the guise of celebrating his birthday,' Hussain said.
'RJD does not respect anyone other than Lalu Yadav. They are just insulting Babasaheb, and it has become a habit of his; he has become addicted (to insulting Ambedkar). The people of Bihar will answer to this,' he further charged.
Earlier today, BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla accused the RJD of repeatedly insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar and said that the party has a 'non-constitutional ideology'.
On RJD chief Lalu Yadav, Poonawala said, 'The insult to Scheduled Castes and Dalits represents the real identity of the RJD and its allies, Congress and the INDI Alliance. The way BR Ambedkar's picture was placed under the feet of Lalu Prasad Yadav and the indecency shown with the image of Ambedkar, this is the original character of RJD.'
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the rules of the Constitution are 'not important' for the party.
'RJD has a non-constitutional ideology. For them, the son is very important, not Baba Saheb. 'Jungle raj' and 'Pariwar raj' are important for RJD, but not the rules of the constitution. Again and again, the RJD insults Babasaheb Ambedkar and the people of Scheduled Caste communities,' he added.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav hit out at the BJP, accusing its leaders of having no connection with BR Ambedkar, the Constitution, or reservation policies, while defending his father Lalu Prasad Yadav.
'These (BJP) people have nothing to do with Baba Saheb, the Constitution, and Reservation. Lalu Yadav has installed many statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in Bihar. We are the people who believe in Ambedkar's ideology. The BJP only spread lies,' Tejashwi asserted.
'Lalu Yadav works for 10 hours at the age of 78 and meets people. He is ill, but still they accuse him of such things,' he further highlighted.
These political developments come while the Assembly Elections are expected in Bihar later this year. (ANI)

Iran-Israel conflict: Qatar closes airspace; Iran fires missiles targeting US airbase in Al Udeid

ANI file photo Qatar authorities temporarily suspended its air traffic across the country on Monday, citing the 'safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors'. The ministry of foreign affairs stressed that they are closely and continuously 'monitoring the situation' and coordinating with international partners. "The competent authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country's airspace, as part of a set of precautionary measures taken based on developments in the region," the foreign ministry said. Qatar lies 190 kilometres (120 miles) south of Iran and is home to Al Udeid, the United States' largest military base in the region. The US embassy said on its website that "Out of an abundance of caution we recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice." Shortly after the airspace was closed, explosions were heard in Qatar, with Iran affirming that it had launched an attack on US forces at the Al Udeid air base. Iran had fired 6 missiles targeting the US air base in Qatar. In the past, Iran has issued threats against US forces stationed at Al Udeid Air Base, which houses the forward headquarters of the US Central Command. Located across the Persian Gulf from Iran, Qatar maintains diplomatic ties with Tehran and jointly shares a vast offshore natural gas field with it. Bahrain, a close neighbour of Qatar, said on X that it has "temporarily shifted a portion of its employees to local telework". It is the home to the US's Fifth Fleet.

Several dissatisfied Congress MLAs are keen to join BJP, says Shettar

As the episode of alleged corruption in housing allotments took a serious turn with a ruling Congress MLA threatening to quit, the BJP mounted an attack at the Congress government, while its MP and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar predicted the collapse of the government claiming that a slew of Congress MLAs were keen to join the BJP. 'This government will not stay for long. It will fall, as Congress MLAs are upset with their party's government. A lot of Congress MLAs, including Kagwad MLA Raju Kage, want to join the BJP,' Mr. Shettar told reporters in Belagavi on Monday, while responding to Mr. Kage's statement that he was so upset with the slow pace of development work in his constituency that he might resign. Mr. Shettar clarified that the BJP was not planning any 'Operation Lotus' to engineer defections from the Congress, but the Congress MLAs were volunteering to change their political loyalty. Meanwhile, BJP veteran leader B.S. Yediyurappa told presspersons in Bengaluru that it was not just Mr. Kage who was upset with the government and wanted to quit. 'There are several other Congress MLAs who are upset with their government. Each of them are going to voice their dissatisfaction. You just wait and see,' he said. Referring to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asking senior Congress MLA B. R. Patil to meet him to seek clarification on his allegations of corruption in allotments under housing schemes, Mr. Yediyurappa said the BJP was concerned that the Chief Minister may tried to silence Mr. Patil. He accused the Congress government of trying to prevent senior leaders and prominent personalities from speaking out against it by issuing threats. Mr. Yediyurappa said he would not only hold meetings of BJP workers, but would also tour the State to create public awareness about the government's alleged misdeeds. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok launched a scathing attack at Mr. Siddaramaiah by asking him to protect the dignity of the State by tendering resignation to his post.

Two Dalit men forced to eat grass on cattle smuggling charge, Rahul Gandhi demands action

BERHAMPUR: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday demanded strong action against those who forced two dalit youths to walk on knees, eat grass and drink dirty water in a village of Ganjam district on Sunday. The two were brutally tortured, half tonsured, forced to eat grass and drink drain water after being falsely accused of cattle smuggling. The shocking incident took place in broad daylight at Kharigumma village under Dharakote block on Sunday. Stating that the incident is not only inhuman, the Congress leader said that it is a mirror for those who say caste is no longer an issue. 'Every incident that trample the dignity of dalits is an attack on Baba Saheb's constitution and a conspiracy against equality, justice and humanity,' he added. Such incidents are becoming common in BJP-ruled states. Atrocities against SC, ST and women have increased worrisome manner especially in Odisha. 'The culprits should be arrested and severely punished. The country will run by the Constitution, not by Manusmriti,' he added. Sources said the victims, Bulu Nayak (52) and Babul Nayak (43) of Singipur, purchased a cow and two calves from Haripur as part of dowry arrangement of a family's marriage ceremony and were bringing the cattle to their village on a cargo auto-rickshaw.
