"Congress govt do it just to gain Muslim votes": BJP's Jagadish Shettar after increase in housing reservation for minority

Hubballi (Karnataka) [India], June 20 (ANI): BJP MP Jagadish Shettar on Friday accused the Congress of playing appeasement politics to secure Muslim votes after the Karnataka government decided to increase housing reservation for minority communities from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. Speaking to ANI, Shettar said, 'From the beginning, whatever is possible, the Congress govt does it just to gain Muslim votes -- that's why they indulge in appeasement politics. First, they announced a 4 per cent reservation in contracts, which has now been challenged in court and is pending. Now, they're giving reservations in housing allotments...' But BJP MP Shettar slammed the move, calling it politically motivated. 'Limited appeasement is one thing, but this is excessive. The Congress party has only survived because of Muslim support,' Shettar added. He also warned that such decisions could backfire for the ruling party. 'Due to all these appeasement policies, the time will come when the Congress govt will collapse,' he said. Earlier in the day, Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra strongly criticised the state cabinet's decision to increase reservation for minorities under various housing schemes from 10 per cent to 15 per cent, calling it appeasement politics by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress government. Speaking to ANI, Vijayendra said, '...Chief Minister Siddaramaiah can stoop to any level to appease is of doing appeasement politics, they should stress on providing education to the is not against minorities, but is against anti-national will take up this issue in the assembly and also hit the streets.' Vijayendra questioned the Congress's claim of following Ambedkar's ideology, saying, 'Congress leaders, including CM Siddaramaiah, repeatedly claim they're champions of the Dalits... but this is not what people expect.' Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also condemned the move, calling it unconstitutional by referring to the Supreme Court's 'rejection' of religion-based reservation. Speaking to ANI, Joshi said, 'This is against the Constitution. The Supreme Court has also rejected a religion-based reservation. This reduces the quota for OBC, ST, and poor people from the general caste. The Karnataka government is doing the politics of appeasement. I condemn this. We will also approach the court against this.' On Thursday, the Karnataka Cabinet approved an increase in the reservation quota for minority communities under various housing schemes from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. (ANI)

"Rain Of Lies": Lalu Yadav Posts AI Video Of PM Modi, Nitish Kumar Dancing

New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav today released a 'Bihar AI' parody video taking swipes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to the state where the assembly election is scheduled to be held later this year. The video has a mix of lookalikes created using artificial intelligence software and genuine footage from PM Modi's public events. A song that accompanied the video repeatedly mentioned the words "jumlo ki baarish" - a familiar line that the Opposition has been using while criticising PM Modi and his party, BJP. "Weather warning in the interest of Bihar - today, there will be heavy rain of lies, false promises and illusions in Bihar, hailstones of false and tempting promises along with thunder, be careful," Lalu Yadav wrote in Hindi in the post on X. The video also features AI lookalikes of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and PM Modi dancing together in rain and in front of a bridge that had crumbled. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), is a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The JD(U) was also briefly with the opposition's Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) before he returned to the NDA family. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD MLA and Lalu Yadav's son, was portrayed in the video as a leader who helped the common people. In one scene, an AI rendition of Tejashwi Yadav was shown helping an old woman pick up a heavy cane basket full of fruit. #Bihar #TejashwiYadav #RJD — Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) June 20, 2025 The RJD's parody video comes amid PM Modi's fresh attack alluding to Lalu Yadav over the RJD chief's alleged insult to BR Ambedkar during his birthday celebrations recently. At a rally in Bihar's Siwan today, PM Modi referred to the instance of a portrait of BR Ambedkar being placed close to the feet of Lalu Yadav, for which the RJD leader has been drawing criticism from the NDA. "Ambedkar was against dynasty rule. But they (RJD and its allies) do not like it. So they have his portrait placed at their feet. On my way, I saw posters demanding an apology for this insult to Babasaheb," PM Modi said at the Siwan rally. "But there has been no apology. This is because they hold Dalits in contempt. In contrast, Modi has Babasaheb in his heart and would like to keep his portrait close to his chest," the Prime Minister said. The RJD said the controversy began due to the "camera angle" at Lalu Yadav's house while his 78th birthday celebration was going on earlier this month. The party said Lalu Yadav's feet were on a sofa because of "medical advice", and a party supporter stood close carrying the portrait of BR Ambedkar.

PM accuses RJD of insulting Ambedkar, praises Nitish

1 2 Patna: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the RJD, accusing it of insulting Dr B R Ambedkar and contributing to Bihar's backwardness. He contrasted this with his praise for CM Nitish Kumar, crediting him with pulling the state out of the "jungle raj and loot" that he said prevailed before 2005 under the rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi. "Nitish has brought Bihar back on track from the jungle raj and prepared the launchpad for the state's development," Modi said while addressing his fourth public rally in Bihar this year. The event followed the remote inauguration and foundation-laying of projects worth Rs 9,518 crore at Jasoli in Siwan district. The projects included the launch of a Vande Bharat Express train between Patliputra Junction in Patna and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, the first consignment of diesel locomotives from the Marhaura rail factory in Saran and several schemes under the rail, energy and urban development departments. Referring to a recent controversy, Modi cited an incident where a portrait of Dr Ambedkar was placed near Lalu's feet by one of his supporters during the RJD chief's birthday celebration on June 11. "I know they will never apologise for disrespecting Ambedkar. By insulting Baba Saheb, these people want to show themselves as bigger than him. The people of Bihar will never forget this insult. They have no respect for Dalits and extremely backward people," he said. "RJD keeps Baba Saheb at its feet, but Modi keeps him in his heart," he added. Modi accused the RJD and Congress of turning a once-prosperous Bihar into a symbol of migration. "They are now trying to grab power again by resorting to different tricks. But I have faith in the youth. They will keep them away from power. Together you have eradicated jungle raj in Bihar," he said. Modi also targeted the previous govts for their slogan-driven politics. "The youth have only heard stories about the plight of Bihar but have no idea what the jungle raj people had done to the state," he said. Highlighting his participation in the recent G7 summit, the PM said world leaders now recognise India as the third-largest economic superpower. "Bihar is definitely going to play a very big role in the country's prosperity," he said. At the event, Modi handed over house keys to 6,684 beneficiaries in Bihar and took a swipe at past govts. "While Congress and RJD kept shouting the 'Garibi Hatao' slogan for decades, the NDA govt has shown how poverty can actually be reduced. More than 25 crore people have come out of poverty in India, including 3.75 crore in Bihar, in the last decade," he said. "Our slogan is Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, but those with lanterns and the hand (RJD-Congress) believe only in parivar ka saath, parivar ka vikas," Modi said.

After PM Modi's Bihar Rally, RJD's Lalu Prasad, Son Tejashwi Respond

Last Updated: The RJD patron also shared an AI-generated video highlighting the situation faced by the people after promises made by NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav took a veiled dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the poll bound state, sarcastically making a reference to weather forecast, saying there was a 'heavy rain of lies" and a 'hail of false promises" in the state today. 'Weather warning in the interest of Bihar- Today there is heavy rain of lies, false promises and illusions in Bihar, hailstones of false and tempting promises are also falling along with thunder, be careful," he said in a post on X. बिहार हित में मौसम की चेतावनी- आज बिहार में झूठ, जुमलों और भ्रम की भारी बारिश हो रही है , गरज के साथ झूठे लुभावने वादों के ओले भी पड़ रहे हैं, संभल कर रहे। #Bihar #TejashwiYadav #RJD — Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) June 20, 2025 The RJD patron also shared an AI-generated video highlighting the situation faced by the people after promises made by NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The video showed an elderly man sitting in a rural area under an umbrella, conveying a message of the person seeking shelter from a 'flood of promises'. The clip further showed a man holding an umbrella amid thunderstorms, signifying the vulnerability of people from a 'hail of false promises'. The video further showed Nitish Kumar and PM Modi dancing under a damaged bridge, signifying infrastructural breakdown and corruption under the NDA regime. Additionally, Lalu Yadav's son and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also hit out at PM Modi over his allegations on RJD and Congress, alleging that he was reading from a teleprompter. 'What he said was ghisa-pita (cliched), had no content and he read from teleprompter. Jumlon ka saaya hai, dekho phir wohi aaya hai. (There's a shadow of lies and look, he has come back again)," he said. Taking a dig at the NDA, which he called the ' National Damad Alliance ', he said that Nitish Kumar ignored the issues faced by the people and attended PM Modi's rally in Siwan. 'The RJD has a clear vision and roadmap for the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar continues to ignore people's issues while attending PM Modi's rallies, something that comes easily to him. The NDA, which is the 'National Damad Alliance,' should take accountability and answer to the people of Bihar," he said. PM Modi Attacks RJD, Congress The RJD's response came after PM Modi, while addressing a high-stakes rally in poll-bound Bihar on Friday, launched a scathing attack on RJD and Congress, and accused them of allegedly insulting Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and betraying the aspirations of Dalits and backward classes. His remarks come amid a growing controversy over a viral video that purportedly shows RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav placing an image of Ambedkar near a chair, before resting his leg on it. Without naming Lalu directly, Modi invoked the incident to question the Opposition's commitment to social justice. 'Leaders of RJD and Congress keep photographs of the architect of the Country's Constitution near their feet. I keep his photograph close to my heart," he said. He added, 'RJD will never apologise for what happened as they have no respect for Dalits and backwards." Karnataka BJP chief slams 15% muslim housing quota: ‘Siddaramaiah can stoop to any level to appease'

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra on Friday strongly criticised the state cabinet's decision to increase reservation for minorities under various housing schemes from 10 per cent to 15 per cent, calling it appeasement politics by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress government. Speaking to ANI, Vijayendra said, "...Chief Minister Siddaramaiah can stoop to any level to appease is of doing appeasement politics, they should stress on providing education to the is not against minorities, but is against anti-national will take up this issue in the assembly and also hit the streets." Vijayendra questioned the Congress's claim of following Ambedkar's ideology, saying, "Congress leaders, including CM Siddaramaiah, repeatedly claim they're champions of the Dalits... but this is not what people expect." Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's schemes, he said benefits like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao reached every section of society, unlike the Congress's religion-specific approach. "Let them stress upon education to the minorities. Let them educate people. The Congress party, after independence, never did this. If Muslims are still below the poverty line, it is only because of the Congress's attitude," he added. The BJP chief also announced that the party would raise the issue in the state assembly and protest across Karnataka. "They're only trying to fool the people of Karnataka... The High Court has clearly said it was the fault of the political leadership. At least after the court's observation, the CM should accept it," Vijayendra told ANI. Referring to the recent stampede in Bengaluru's Chikkaballapur, Vijayendra blamed the Chief Minister and Deputy CM, calling it a failure of governance. "Unfortunately, innocent officials, senior IPS officers, including the Bengaluru City Commissioner, have been made scapegoats. Bureaucracy is losing hope in this government," he alleged. Earlier, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned the move, calling it unconstitutional by referring to the Supreme Court's 'rejection' of religion-based reservation. Speaking to ANI, Joshi said, "This is against the Constitution. The Supreme Court has also rejected a religion-based reservation. This reduces the quota for OBC, ST, and poor people from the general caste. The Karnataka government is doing the politics of appeasement. I condemn this. We will also approach the court against this." On Thursday, the Karnataka Cabinet approved an increase in the reservation quota for minority communities under various housing schemes from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. Karnataka Minister HK Patil stated that this move does not require any new rules to be drafted."The reservation for all minority communities will be increased. There are Christians, Jains, Buddhists," the Minister said. (ANI)
